  1. I'm curious as to how this game played out. I knew Athens had a chance to win, but I didn't see them winning by 21.
  2. Kilgore is going to bring the thunder tonight. Full send. Save travels to everyone.
  3. I was confused by it as well. But, Athens did hit Chapel Hill over the top a couple of times to wide open receivers because CHill had to commit so many guys to stopping the run.
  4. I'll take Palestine in this one with the explosive running game, but I wouldn't sleep on Athens. They have a way of just chewing that clock up 4 yards at a time, but they have zero room for error.... no false starts, no holding, no sacks, no negative runs.
  5. What's strange is that Dave Campbell's has Boerne ranked #1..... Maxpreps has them ranked #17 (due to weak SoS).
  6. I watched this game.... very entertaining. I don't blame Bay City for taking one more shot at the end zone because who wants to rely on a kicker in HS to win a game. The pass got tipped up in the air and picked of in the back of the end zone by Iowa Colony. Both of these teams are a lot more pass-happy than I thought they'd be.
  7. The issue I see for Chapel Hill, as high scoring as their offense is.... is that it's pretty much all Ricky.
  8. Chapel Hill can out-talent a lot of football teams. That's not going to be the case in this one.
  9. I remember standing on it and thinking.... this is like playing football on a fairway. I hate to hear that it couldn't survive, but I'm sure the maintenance savings paid for the turf pretty quickly.
  10. The very last year we were in what is now 5A we played in the state quarterfinals. The first year after we dropped we played in the state semifinals and the next year we played for a state championship. We've been 3 or 4 rounds deep many times since then and nobody has ever accused us of having a soft schedule. Heck, we played Texas High in non-district 6 straight years. How many 4A teams are lining up to do that? We even travelled to Houston to play a damn near 6A Corpus Christi team for a few years.
  11. So you're saying Kilgore should be playing a 5A-D1 schedule? Because if you are, I'll take that as a compliment.
  12. 1. Lindale (the way the press box is lit is cool) 2. Pine Tree (nice stadium, but they need more than 1 road going in and out of there) 3. Henderson/Gilmer (tie, there both about the same)
  13. Wow! I did not foresee Needville losing to Bay City.... and they didn't just lose, they got smoked 50-17. That's a shocker to me. Now I'm curious to see how Iowa Colony does at Bay City this week. Could Bay City expose another paper tiger?
  14. 0% chance against Lindale. 10% chance against Henderson.
  15. And FWIW, I don't always agree with the District of Doom moniker that we have.... but this year I believe it is. I mean, the #1 team in the state for the majority of the season could very well finish 3rd in district. Athens is likely to finish #5 in the district and just played a top 5 team in the state to within 7 pts. Palestine is going to be a 4-seed and they could play with anybody when they bring their A game. Lindale has already proven what they can do. It's going to be exciting come playoff time.
  16. I know that Crawford and Denman can absolutely fly
  17. Athens was basically 4 yds/carry and probably possessed the football for ~ 36 minutes. I only remember them having 1 play of over 20 yds. They didn't have an offensive turnover until their last possession. Kilgore returned a kickoff for a TD and recovered an on-side kick.... which was basically the difference in the game.
