If you study all the games with high scores for Argyle.......they have put up at least 40 pts in the first half in those games. I would not say there is anything wrong with scoring as many as you can in the first half of games. In the 2nd halfs.......if the second and third teamers score against the opponent, then that's THEIR fault, not Argyle's.
I say score at will, its the other teams job to stop you. You dont tell back ups not to score they practice and work to during the week and want to be rewarded also.

Margin of victory could make a difference if the district ends up with 3 teams tied and each beat the other in a round robin sort of result. But that is an unusual situation and may not even come into play for the district tie-breaker rules.......I don't know.
Celina isn't beating Argyle trust me. Celina's offense is bad, bad and more bad, they have no passing game because the oline is so poor.

Is the weather supposed to be bad there tomorrow? That could be a factor
Yes rain and cold

By the way this is a top 10 showdown. Argyle #1 Melissa #10. This is the type of game that can propel a program forward with a big signature win.
-
Agian I dont think this game will be a high scoring game, I dont see either team scoring more than 35 points especially with the weather.

From the news I'm reading Argyle is in the process right now of substantially adding on to the new middle school to become the new high school. It has more room for the expansion......and the high school facilities right now will become the middle school as soon as the construction is complete. I guess they will build a new stadium and the whole works........evidently they are behind in their growth planning. Celina already did it with a new high school complete with state of the art stadium and other sport fields.......very very nice with plenty of room for future expansion onto that. Springtown is exploding out there and so is Boyd. They cannot build the houses fast enough......the growth in those two areas is just unbelievable! Decatur is already busting at the seams........and little 'ol Argyle is growing slowly compared to all of these 4A-D1's........no kidding! Not sure Krum has seen the growth yet.......but Aubrey is also exploding. Sanger and Gainesville slowly like Argyle. Celina, Melissa, Anna, Springtown, Decatur........and all the other 2A/3A small "country schools above Fort Worth........just forgetaboutit!!
Gainesville already built their new high school and stadium several years ago.
Melissa has built a new high school that they are still currently building onto. They are also building a new 120 yard indoor practice facility that they broke ground on a few weeks ago. In the near future im hearing they are building a 12,000 seat stadium.

Eagle stadium in Argyle holds about 5,000.......it will be capacity for sure. The Melissa side will be filled up......they have more population than Argyle. And the Argyle side will be totally packed with overflowing all over the stadium. If there's one thing you can count on.......a home game this big in Argyle will bring in all kinds of fans and even the cult followers. I've got to get there early on Friday evening.......they take all the unreserved seats and put reserved signs on them early in the day before the gates open.......for all their friends, family members, and other fans that don't have reserved season seats. Just rows of them in a game like this. Argyle already added a whole end zone section for the band. They have a complete student section of stands not available to anyone else.......I think that's from about the 30 to the 10 yd line. The area around the endzone and concession/eating tables at the other endzone all the way around the fenced track will be full. Argyle only plays 4 homes games this season......this one and the final one against Celina are the Biggies.
With it raining I would bet on a big crowd from Melissa showing up, I could be wrong but last year when we played in Celina it rained and I bet Melissa didnt have 200 people show up.

Melissa will have to play mistake free and limit the penalties. Melissa may not have world beaters at wide receiver, but they are very talented and fast. If Melissa can slow down the deep ball from Argyle, I like Melissa's chances at the upset. I don't think this will be a high scoring game like everybody thinks.

That poor #56 the center they moved to guard after halftime was getting blown up all night. He plays so hard, but just has no size. Hopefully the Bobcats can get it figured out before playoffs.

The kid has a strong arm, I'll say that. Regardless of what Melissa does against Argyle this week, the Cardinals are going to make some noise in the postseason. I wouldn't count them out against anybody really.
Man, the big problem with the offense is just the inconsistency along the offensive line. So many injuries. So many moving pieces because of that, it's just hard to get consistency and cohesiveness. But you can alleviate some of that in a few different ways, one of which is getting the ball out quicker. Spread the field, catch the snap and throw. Run some bubbles screens, some hitches, some quick slants, some jail breaks. Force the defense to give you some breathing room in the box and relent on the pressure. Run some play-action, run some naked bootleg, utilize the gigantic sophomore (Cunningham) we have as the TE, utility guy, dragging across the field. Bring the option into the run game, utilize some speed from the receivers. Use motion. And for crying out loud, TAKE A SHOT, at the 6'7 kid who's not a bad athlete, who absolutely is going to be able to out-leap a 5'6 cornerback. And if it works, do it again. And again. And eventually the defense HAS to back off, giving your offensive line some reprieve, thus opening up the running game.
I can sit here and armchair quarterback all day long, and tell you every single thing that I think will work, and the hard truth remains that it doesn't matter, and that Coach Davis (our offensive coordinator) has forgotten a life's worth of football knowledge more than I'll ever know. Not to mention he's with the team every single day and knows the inner workings and all that jazz. But from the outside looking in, it seems painfully obvious that there's a lack of creativity in the play calling. I mean, Scott Linehan-lack of creativity. Yet, we have the athletes to be much more creative.
So, that's my long way of saying ... I don't have a clue what's going on, Red!
Lol, good analysis though. I was completely shocked that they didn't throw the ball down the field at all and especially to the giant. I mean they could have thrown a few jump balls at least to the kid because Melissa left the db on an island just tempting Celina to pass it. At some point you think one of the coaches would say lets try to at least throw the ball even if your just snapping and throwing it up. Instead they let Point get beat on all night and the kid wont last much longer if they continue to run him into the ground i'm afraid. He held up well during the game, but you could tell by the 4th qt he was exhausted.

Carthage offense is not elite. Melissa is probably better. Should be a good test for Argyle this week. They only put up 29 against Celina, but held them to 17.
And really the point of my post is not about Carthage. Carthage has their own work to do to get ready for a title run.
In reality Melissa should have put 36 points up on Celina, receiver dropped a wide open pass in the end zone that hit him in the gut lol. Melissa had 507 yards of offense against a really good Celina defense.
-
Lewis was 7-12 for 115 yards and should have been 9-12 with wide receivers flat dropping the pass one of which was in the end zone that would have been a touchdown that hit the receiver right in the gut. In saying that Celina's defense for the most part played well in the secondary.
As for Celina's offense what in the heck are they doing d0tc0m? Im with you, they have a kid 6'7 and never attempt to throw to him, makes no sense to me. Poor Logan Point had to have been exhausted and beat up.

Scary deal with the ref going down last night. Terrible situation but I heard he was doing okay. If not for the Celina and Melissa training staffs working together he would have passed. They used the defibrillator to revive him after CPR was unsuccessful I was told. Heard he did not breath for 3-4 minutes. Just pray he is okay long term.
As far as the game it was pretty good. Melissa’s QB was the best player on the field by a mile and it was the difference. Melissa’s D was a little better then advertised but Celina’s offense might be more unimaginative then Paris’s. Celina has one player that can do damage in Point and that was it. Celina had a 6’ 6” WR with a 5’ 6” kid covering him a lot of the night and not once did they throw to that matchup.
Celina has a lot of talent but the lack of the ability to complete a forward pass really limits their upside. Melissa didn’t throw a great deal, they relied on their RB and especially their QB to run the ball last night. Don’t know how may times it was 3rd and long and the Melissa QB would drop back then take off to convert a long 3rd down. It would take 3-4 Celina defenders to get him down. He is a full grown man. Where ever he goes to college they are getting a superior athlete. Argyle vs. Melissa next week is going to be a battle and a must watch
I thought what was impressive is that Melissa didnt need to utilize the pass. They threw the ball enough to keep Celina's defense honest, but honestly Brendon looked like he was toying with Celina's defense.
I figured melissa would need to air it out to beat Celina, I never imagined Melissa would rush for 350+ yards.

3 good running backs:
Point
Young
Posey
Posey for Melissa is probably a little more dangerous at this time then Young from what I’ve seen but he will lay it on the carpet pretty regularly. Young will probably play more LB then RB because of their weakness at the LB level though.
Unfortunately Melissa is missing 3 starters on defense, two OLB and a DB hence the reason Young is playing defense.

I'm probably with you on this one. I thought Texski's breakdown was pretty good. This being the only place, like you Red, where I might say it's closer to dead even than advantage Celina. But whatever, it doesn't matter and we all know that. We all know fans will be treated to watching two VERY, VERY good running backs go head-to-head tonight.
I would definitely take any of these running backs on my team.

By the way just for information Frisco High is ranked #10 this week in 5A Dll

I attended approx. 25 live high school games last year and after North Shore- Duncanville this may have been the 2nd best. Neither team led by more than 7 and Melissa had a late 4th quarter red-zone stand to win 28-21. I think will be another very close game and anybody attending should get their money's worth. Celina fans get there early as our visitor side ####.
My prediction--- Melissa 40 Celina 35
I would agree on all of that except runningback, I lean more toward a push/tie. All runningback in this one are legit.

Just saw Melissa is ranked #10 in 4a Dl

That's a massive defensive front lol
FW Nolan was big and athletic as well, but I don't know that they were that big. I don't really recall their measurements. Memorial's line was pretty massive too.
Gotta program lol. They were huge and oline was massive also. The nose guard was the 6'5 320lb kid and just plugged everything up, you couldnt move him. The freakin TE was 6'5 235. Point is they looked like a 6a school and whipped butt lol.
-
The only team Melissa has had trouble moving the ball against was TC Cedar Hill and admittedly they man handled Melissa's oline like it was nobody's business, but when your starting dline is 6'5 320, 6'6 270, 6'4 205 and 5'10 230 and athletic that might present some issues. Not making excuses because TC Cedar Hill dline was just flat out bigger and better than Melissa's oline.

Argyles online is always huge, I don't get where they get that big of kids year in and year out?
I'm pretty excited to see the Argyle Melissa game. Argyle will obviously be the favorite but Melissa seemed to have turned a corner last year in the program. Melissa should have beaten La Vega and would have gotten to rematch Argyle again. That game would have been an awesome game. Melissa was a completely different animal against La Vega. Melissa had a lot of young guys last year that got a ton of playing time that will hopefully translate over to this year.
