  3. the game between OP and JT was a really interesting game. First off it was HOT. REAL HOT. Which I think played a huge part in the game. Permian had a huge offensive line and if I remember right was heavily favored. I always felt like a series in the first quarter completely changed the outcome of the game. Permian took the opening kickoff and hammered it down the field in a very physical, time consuming drive right at JT. Permian was manhandling the JT defensive line and it was impressive. When Permian scored I watched the OLine head to the bench and were exhausted, and looking for water and oxygen. Permian kicked off and JT busted the first play for about an 80 yard TD to tie the game. So Permian's offense was right back on the field and on that series the JT defense stuffed them and it really gave JT confidence that they could play with Permian, and you could also see how tough the heat was on Permian's line. They never did come out and dominate the LOS again for the rest of the game. I really feel that even if JT had tied the game after a long drive down the field, Permian would probably have come back and scored because the linemen would have been rested. But the quick score, turn around and stuff by JT's defense gave JT great confidence and the oppressive heat got in OP's head some. JMO. It was a great win for JT and really impacted the respect for East Texas football.
  4. Obviously Smoaky.com has a strong East Texas biased so Henderson is going to be more popular on here. But in the last few years the Carthage people have come to appreciate EC. The 'what is a Ricebird" talk sort of died down. Henderson may win, but they will have to play well. And that is what the playoffs are all about. El Campo has struggled with three teams this year............Wharton, Bay City and Stafford. Check out those teams personalities and you will see that speed and athletic receivers give EC problems. But as everyone knows, EC is use to that and somehow finds ways to win or keep it close and capitalize if you screw up (right Carthage folks?). The formula vs. Stafford was to keep the their potent offense on the bench. Stafford ran 12 plays in the second half. Wharton probably should have beat EC, but some crazy things happened and the Bay City game went OT. Henderson's talent and style will give EC problems, but one thing is for sure.............El Campo isn't going to be easy or lay down. They have been here before (more consistent and overall tradition than Henderson) and when they step on a field they expect to compete with anyone they face.
  5. My dad would be in his 80's if alive today, and he once saw a guy wearing a Blue Henderson shirt and he asked me what was the deal......he said "Henderson was RED when I played them........no blue." Later I saw Henderson look like the Houston Oilers with columbia blue and red. Then Dennis A, had them in All Royal Blue with very little red trim. Now I see they are Silver. For a place that brags about tradition of their program, they sure aren't very loyal to their school colors. What is the story on all the color changes? Pretty sure when you play Kilgore, Carthage or El Campo you know that you are going to see RED. I promise you Henderson will see plenty of RED across the field tomorrow night.
