  1. You're right about that. Refugio QB has been able to float those on a lot of weaker teams throughout the season and his receivers would go up and get it. Not going to happen on SA. But, he's also not throwing normal tonight, injured his knee last week and looks considerably different to me having seen him in 3-4 games last year and now 3 this year.
  2. No doubt, but by semi-final game, the kids usually will do that (not always). They just need the right plan. Coaches are going to make the difference in this second half IMO.
  3. SA definitely more athletic and has much better size. I don't know anything about SA coaches, but Herring would be absolutely killing it if he had all those SA athletes.
  4. Halftime adjustments... this is where the coaches either earn their paychecks or don't.
  5. Yes, they did, but that's too funny coming from Carthage. Sounds like you're still hurting from them upsetting Carthage last year. And even worse after Carthage fans talked so much garbage leading up to that game.
  6. I'm going with Carthage. But let's don't get too cocky as we know all too well what happened last year when Carthage went up against this CenTex district (Liberty Hill). There is no way Carthage should have lost that game and I think Liberty Hill would admit Carthage wins that game 99 times out of 100. But.....that's the great thing about football, you never know when the 1 game is going to come and those can be some of the greatest.
  7. Yeah, I was at that 2017 game and it got really ugly for SA That's why I'm surprised the SA coaches didn't press for a different venue. Do you know if they lost a coin flip or just straight up agreed to play there again? I know some will say the venue doesn't matter, but for me, if I got smacked hard there before, I'm going to try to get a different venue.
  8. Everyone I see post that have actually met him, they like him. Maybe he's not so bad.
  9. Liberty Hill. Terrible regular season and have literally whipped each opponent in playoffs.
  10. I had picked Shiner too and didn't think Refugio had what they needed to beat them. In the end, just glad I was there.
  11. Good to hear. I'm guessing SA would play Refugio in the Houston area and if by chance Holland takes Region 4, where would that likely be played? Trying to plan for next week.
  12. I agree on the line play being the issue in years past. I haven't been able to see any East Texas teams this year. Last year prior to the semi-final I think I recall reading that the SA line was big and dominant, or words to that effect. When I watched them against Refugio in the semi-final game, they were big, but for the most part they looked overweight and slow, so Refugio just wore them out. Has that changed this year? If so, they should have a good shot. Will also need to play some disciplined football. Refugio of years past seemed to be undisciplined and got a lot of penalties, usually 3-4 personal fouls each game among others. They have cleaned it up and this is no longer the case. They aren't setting themselves back with these ridiculous penalties. If SA/Groveton winner can do the same, they have a shot.
  13. " You're so concerned with squabbling for the scraps from Region 4's table that you've missed your God given right to something better." Pretty sure that was William Wallace, aka Braveheart; 1298 AD
  14. I didn't see that as I had my eyes on the players/field. There were calls both ways that could have impacted the end result, it's just that this one was at the very end so some tend to remember it more. There were two calls that didn't go Refugio's way that led to a 14 point swing in Shiner's favor. One was a Refugio pass called incomplete on about the 5 yard line. A frame by frame on a sideline camera showed both feet in. I don't fault the referee, it was such a quick play. Then there was a facemask call against Refugio on a Shiner fourth down that was clearly no facemask. Would have been Refugio ball, but instead next play Shiner scored a TD. Not taking anything away from refs or either team, just saying that as with almost all games, there were calls that could have been made and/or missed calls both ways. In the end it was as good a game as I've ever seen.
  15. Was there. It was possibly the greatest finish to a game I've ever seen.
  16. Very well said wolfpack76 . I've seen Holland twice this year. The only way Holland beats Refugio is by playing a near perfect game and Refugio imploding. It could happen and I will certainly be there to see it if it does. I hope to see the SA vs Refugio rematch. If you haven't done so, it's worth paying the $10 to watch even just the last quarter of that Refugio/Shiner game on TexanLive.
  17. Liberty Hill entered the playoffs at 4-5 and the fourth seed from their district. They beat El Campo rather handily tonight and will be playing in fourth round next week. This is one of those exceptional programs that knows how to kick it in gear.
  18. That's a rematch I'm hoping to see too. SA has a big mountain in front of them if they're going to break the curse. Refugio was incredible in that comeback. They've played much tougher competition than SA has seen this year. Still not counting out Holland as they've also had a great year.
  19. Hate to tell SA...I went to Shiner vs Refugio game tonight. Incredible game. Hard to imagine SA being able to beat them. Looking forward to seeing that game. SA has been putting up very impressive numbers. They are going to need to be disciplined and not get any silly penalties.
  20. I'd rather give that "advantage" to the one or two teams a year that would get it than to have the no win team in the playoffs. Perhaps a better idea is only 3 teams from each district and the first place team from each district get a bye. Since there are no three team districts, we'd never have a zero win team in the playoffs, right? I'm liking that. I know some will say that their are good 4th place teams from strong districts that won't get in the playoffs then. I still think it's a good trade-off.
  21. I like the four teams, because I like 6 weeks of playoffs. But, I still contend that if there's a team that hasn't won a single game, the UIL should list that as something like "did not qualify" and have it listed as a first round bye for the team they would have played. This only eliminates 1-3 playoff games per year, some year none. Griping about watching an 0-10 team in the playoffs isn't anything like griping about extra cake. It is indeed a "watering down." Understand they'll lose, but what's the point in having them play. Give the bye to the other team, they can scrimmage their JV and be better off, or take the entire team on a trip to watch their second round opponent. They can do something that will be beneficial to their team, not waste time and effort on something that should have never been. Everyone has a different opinion, some think it's beating a dead horse... I see it as pure common sense that a state that prides itself on High School Football would want making the playoffs to actually mean something. In the case of an 0-10 team, it means nothing other than the UIL made a stupid decision.
