  1. Somebody told me Arp is going to win state.
  2. Refugio or Shiner. Mason isn't going to make a run this year. Refugio has possibly the best team chemistry they've had in a while and the QB is capable of some phenomenal play. Also have very good line play. I'm hoping to see SA vs Refugio. And for this game, SA takes it.
  3. Other than travel, there's zero upside for Texas High playing Pleasant Grove or LE. Why would any 5A want to play a 3A? They are three times larger and with PG and LE, so if they lose it's a real downer, if they win it's what's expected. Texas High should stick with playing schools closer to their level and leave PG and LE to each other.
  4. Okay, well that could make a big difference. I was going off what folks on here were touting leading up to the game last year and my recall was a lot of talk of how good the QB was. Possible my recall is off or it was fans that didn't really know. Anyway, best of luck to SA. It would be good to see them take the title back from the other Region. I don't think Mason will be a contender this year. It will likely be Refugio or Shiner against SA in regional championship. Some think San Saba, but I'm not buying that.
  5. No hate at all. I wish them the best as I'm from East Texas, but I'm also a realist and haven't seen enough out of SA to see them overcoming Refugio or Shiner. That's not hate, that's just calling it like I see it. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
  6. Should have moved to Refugio or Shiner if he wanted a ring. No rings going to SA this year.
  7. Franklin with 350 kids to Mart's 150. Not many schools with that disparity can compete with the larger school. At this level, that's a lot of extra talent to choose from, but when Mart is involved it's not always as easy as the numbers.
  8. PG has won 2 of the last 8 against LE and now going to start talking junk? Quite a few beat downs of the Hawks by LE too. Glad to see PG doing good, but no point in acting like you've firmly established as the kings of Texarkana just because you had two great years in a row.
  9. LE is playing some stiff competition with Waco La Vega, Carthage, Argyle. Holy ####! How do they survive that? I'd like to see Arkansas High schedule a few of those in pre-district to get a good measure on them.
  10. I haven't kept track, but took a quick look on MaxPreps and it shows they have been playing. Is this not the case. UIL site shows Texas High having 1800+ kids and LE at 693. No way Texas High should keep that door open, even though scores show fairly close.
  11. I'd have to say at this level, 350+/- extra kids do make a difference when it's 1082 to 726. That's right at 50% more and does make a difference. If it were much larger schools in the 2500-2800 range, I'd be more inclined to agree. Still have to say, AHS should be wiping the field with a school the size of LE.
  12. I've been away from Texarkana for quite a long time and now live in central Texas, but good to see the numbers in order to put Arkansas High in perspective. Looks like they would be a large 4A in Texas, just below the 5A cutoff when counting their 9th graders. LE has a little under 700 in grades 9-12. Arkansas should be donkey stomping LE every year, right?
  13. That's good to hear. Their big boys weren't mobile enough against Region 4. A slimmer and quicker version of the big guys may help put them where they need to be when that time comes.
  14. I hope he's as good as folks are saying. A lot were saying the same about the SA QB two years ago going into the Refugio game and he turned out not so good when faced with the tough teams. I think the SA QB in that game was touted for throwing? Maybe running too? Also, the Refugio QB is a senior this year and came to Refugio from a 5A program last year. He didn't start out playing QB last year until maybe the 3rd or 4th game, but once he took over, their offense transformed.
  15. Officiating had nothing to do with where it was being played. Don't try to make that connection when it's not there. Try doing some homework and knowing where the officials were from. I think they were out of Houston and there's no officiating crew out of Houston wanting to help out a DFW team.
  16. Yeah but... the SA O-line was significantly outmatched once they got to Mason. They looked slow and to put it kindly since we're talking about high school kids, out of shape. If they're going to break through to the next level, they have to trim down a little and add some speed and footwork to that size and strength. If they can do that on the line on both sides of the ball, they will compete with Region 4 and not have three-peat of getting blown out.
  17. SAWolfman is right. SA can have all the passing game they want, but if their defense isn't any better than what they showed against Region 4 the last two years (52-8 and 63-21), they won't get past them again.
  18. Can't put San Augustine ahead of any of the three, Refugio, Mason, or Shiner until they can at least show some semblance of staying on the field with the teams from that region. Shiner is bringing a lot back and may be the team to beat from that region.
  19. There's no tax issues with school districts crossing county lines. Quite a number throughout the state do this.
  20. If a school/team is so bad that they have concerns about having the score run up on them, then they should gracefully bow out of whatever sport it is. Don't try to put it on the other team(s) to have to not "run up the score" or keep themselves in check. Otherwise, #### it up buttercup.
  21. You have got to be kidding. "The high school playoffs aren't special." Really? There are about 126 High School 5AD2 teams in Texas. There are about the same number of teams in the FCS, I think 125. So by your logic, the UIL would be just as well off to put together a committee to select the best four 5AD2 teams and they will play and it will be as good or better than it is now. Ridiculous! Plenty of champions have come from the ranks you would leave out and I'm betting the same would hold true in the college ranks.
  22. That's a prime example showing why the playoff should be at least 16 or even 32 teams. Any team can get on a hot streak and knock off a team that all of us thought was better. That's why HS playoffs are so good, if you can just get your foot in the door, you have a chance to upset a so called legitimate contender. The NCAA and those big schools that have the real control don't want to upset the apple cart and risk this, that's a large part of why they're so resistant to opening that door even a little.
  23. Wrong. Too many examples of other levels (actually all other levels) of football doing it with many more teams and they're more special. Why not make the NFL, HS, and other college levels only 4 teams in their "playoff" so they can be as "special?" Because the 4 team approach isn't special.
