  1. John King is not the only good coach inhaling oxygen all day every day. if the administration is too scared to change head coaches maybe just get an OC/QB coach and take those duties away from King, because that’s the elephant in the room no one wants to address. You can keep winning district and 90% of your games, thinking this is the year and lose in the playoffs and be underwhelmed or possibly find a coach who knows how to utilize the players at his disposal. King never gets all of the potential out of the players he has, because of his offense and they never develop quarterbacks. We went through very similar times as Longview has been under King, and the after has been light years better. If you were to make a change at HC you don’t have to get a proven coach for things to improve. Surratt was a really good offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at T High not a John Kay, etc. We went from “Oh gosh, it’s 3rd down and 15. They know we have to pass here and our QB can’t hit the broad side of a barn.”, to converting 4th and 15 from our own 23 yard line in the state championship game. Went from very little confidence to no one can stop us and 4th downs don’t phase us even in title games. That’s probably another problem. Y’all deep down don’t expect to win and that comes from leadership. A couple of folks laughing at the example I’ve given..that’s just sticking your head in the sand and not wanting to think there could be another more prosperous route the Lobos can take. Carthage hit the jackpot and King has built a solid program that would be very enticing for many coaches. Longview could hit the jackpot if they’d only try. I believe Longview can win championships often. If you want a name, how about Timpson’s HC & Staff?
  2. I’d like to see him get 15 carries. You need to see KJ Edwards run the ball before determining Benny needs more carries. Like someone said about all these D1 players PG has
..real D1 / P5 (as a sophomore) is what KJ plays like. I understand you want Benny to get more of the load, but when you’re playing with a guy like Edwards you’re just not going to be the feature back.
  3. Bickham was part of the floundering after Reynolds. Bickham was ok, but not a great era for Carthage.
  4. FSU needs to drop in the rankings. Their starting QB is out and they’re struggling. I mean, even if they sneak by Florida, do people actually think they belong in the playoff when other teams would be a greater challenger?
  5. So, I have thought about this for a bit and want to tell Lobo fans why I’m for Longview going with a new HC. For many years, Carthage had a pretty dang successful HC who held the record for wins, playoff wins, etc He took us to a state championship game in 1991 with a team that had massive amounts of talent on both sides of the ball. Our offense was eerily similar to what Longview runs today. Pretty vanilla, strong, strong running game and very solid defense. We won a good bit, and were for the most part consistently good we just never could win state. King has won state once and much like our previous “legendary” HC always wasted tons of talent. Sleepy plateaued and King has plateaued. I understand appreciating what you have and being afraid your program will take a step back. However, if we’d been stuck with our previous coach we never would’ve won 9 titles, to this point. We floundered for a few years and had bad seasons, but we found the right guy and have been celebrating ever since. The same thing can happen for Longview. King has built a very good program, but can’t consistently lead Longview to its full potential. King did do that one time, but his own deficiencies are what is keeping Longview from greatness. It stinks the man leading your program is the same person keeping you from reaching your ultimate goal, and everyone knows it. It’s definitely a risk, but King has wasted so many players and years. I just hate seeing Longview rarely live up to its potential when the sky is the limit for the Lobos.
  6. We’re undefeated at The Star by the hair of our chinny chin chin. But, undefeated nonetheless.
  7. Well, the Lobos underperform often. I would definitely take a chance on a new regime.
  8. JF, we will have to respectfully agree to disagree on this topic. I do believe Traylor and Surratt would both dominate in 5A and 6A.
  9. I don’t know what else he needs to do for people to understand he would win at any level. For years people said he and Traylor couldn’t win at higher levels. Now Traylor is making millions at UTSA and just interviewed for the A&M job AND Traylor beat Surratt what, once, with one of our sorriest teams in the Surratt Era? Surratt > Traylor every day of the week and Traylor is now doing very well in college.
  10. I don’t think so, King would find a way to squander it away. Y’all need a change, but who do you get?
  11. Yep, it’s not even close. If Lobos have had SS this whole time you’d be the ones with nine state championships. King is easily the most talent wasting coach in East Texas. Glad Longview fans are finally admitting what we’ve been saying for years. The worst thing was Lobo fans holding to the opinion Surratt couldn’t win in 5A / 6A simply because he coaches in 4A, talk about a horrible and just ignorant opinion. I believe folks just didn’t know how talented he and Preston both are.
  12. Yeah, yesterday we were apparently playing the most talent laden team in the state and now it sounds like Gilmer is right behind them in speed and we’re not nearly as fast. Uggh Jett did not play his best game yesterday, but he has way plenty of talent and can get the ball to our receivers, who also played poorly yesterday. Carthage played nowhere near to its potential yesterday.
  13. So, my take on the game yesterday starts with PG has a talented group, and so does Carthage. Any talk of Carthage having way less talent this year than in years past is a bit overblown. Carthage is young is some places, but it didn’t keep us from winning. Game thoughts: We played very flat all first half and made mistakes throughout the game. All in all we won very ugly yesterday, but found a way. There were also multiple no calls for pass interference against PG where the refs just let it go, blatant. The very last play of the game our LB was held and then we interfered with Jackson trying to catch the ball, no flags on either end. One of those touchdowns in the first half for PG, massive hold against their OL that sprung the runner free, no call. PG fans should be rejoicing there were so few flags thrown against them instead of whining about officials. Ultimately, we were fortunate to win yesterday, because we didn’t play well at all and PG refused to use all of their players, instead relying on the QB all the time. Carthage did however turn it on in the second half, especially on defense. The cream rose to the top. You could see and feel the momentum shift when we scored our third TD and were still down 28-21. You knew it was coming, the Dawgs had finally arrived.
  14. They were showing Carthage players, coaches and fans how tough they are.
  15. Yep, if you’re Gilmer you want anyone remotely associated with the program to be silent until the game starts. Some folks just aren’t wise enough to know how to act and only want to rah rah the team all the time, which is not intelligent.
  16. Benny is our little hammer and I enjoy seeing him in the game. Benny is stronger between the tackles, but Edwards is a game changer. Benny can be too just not nearly as electric or home run threat on every play like KJ.
  17. Well, not necessarily. PG was most likely our toughest test this season. We shall see.
  18. 100%. Those Bulldogs are so much fun to watch and the never quit attitude is a great example.
