  1. Corsicana will be tough to beat for Jacksonville. If they can play with the same intensity as they did against Marshall without all the turnovers, then they may keep it close or even pull off the upset. If this game were being played at the Tomato bowl then I would really like Jacksonvilles chances with what they showed last week there. I was impressed with the coaching at the Marshall game too. They came in with a good game plan and they stuck too it.Impressed mainly with Jax's defense(really disciplined and flew to the ball), but Offense should catch up after a few games against the tough defenses they're playing early in the year. Maybe the O cordinator can put in more plays like that delayed draw that seemed to get most of your yardage just on the few times you ran it.
  2. Freshmen Marshall:22 Jacksonville:7 JV Marshall:36 Jax:12 4th quarter score.
  3. Please post the radio stations that will be broadcasting your game? Marshall: 103.9FM Jax: 97.7FM ????
  4. Should be an interesting game, I'm glad to see Tatum move back up to 3a so they can tangle with 4a's in non district. If this game were played the last couple years I would pick Tatum as favorites, but this year I see an improved Hallsville team beating a younger Tatum squad. Close game early with Hallsville finally wearing them down in the 4th to win. Hallsville: 28 Tatum: 17
  5. This game worries me with Marshall not being able to scrimmage anyone compared to Jax's 3 teams. Add in that Marshall usually plays their worst game by far of the year in their first game. Then there's the loss of 3 of our better players during the spring and summer due to an injury, off the field troubles, and moving out of state. On top of that, Marshall can't seem to win at the Tomato Bowl, even if we're heavily favored. I say it will be really close through most of the game, with Marshall finally getting a comfortable 2 TD lead late in the 4th to pull out the win.
  6. 1.Kilgore: Style of play gives them a better chance of beating Whitehouse. Ball Control O, Physical D. 2.Whitehouse: Has the guns to beat Kilgore and many other teams, but will struggle against complete teams that use good ball control. 3.Henderson: Was one step away from being a top tier team last season. I think many are overlooking Henderson with what they have coming back. 4.Nac: Had a dominant D last season, and I expect the same again. Has returning talent, but lost too much from last season to be in top 3. Could change places with Henderson for 3rd if offense shows more fire power. 5.Lindale: Don't know much about them, so just going by what others have said. Could be a playoff team, but don't see them competing too well with Kilgore or Whitehouse. 6.Jacksonville: Weird putting them last, but new coach and still a semi young team. I will know a little more about them after the Marshall game. Could sneak into a playoff spot, all they need to do is win 2 district games. Tomato bowl gives them a chance.
  7. Garrett was average to above average at RB, But I believe Mark Johnson was very underrated as a fullback. He was very hard to bring down and had nice quickness for his position. Marshall seemed to have its most trouble with the quick hand off to the tough fullbacks. When I was at the Longview spring game, there seemed to be 2 smaller rbs in the backfield instead of a rb and true fullback with good size or strength. I'm not saying the Rbs didn't look good, but just seemed to be in the small and quick category instead of having a power runner at fb like usual. Maybe I'm wrong about them, the lobo defense might have just made them look smaller than usual.
  8. Maybe some of Marshall's fans don't know how good SS is, but the same can be said for some of SS fans. Both will be in for a surprise if either thinks his team is bout blow the other out. Should be a barn burner similar to the Whitehouse Marshall game last year. With hopefully Marshall finally pulling out the close win. Fans are one thing, but I seriously doubt the Marshall coaches will be overlooking SS. Marshall and SS already played in 7 on 7 this summer in Tyler, So Marshall's D already knows what they will be up against. Hopefully Marshall will have Aaron Franklin back at Lb by that time to help out on D.
  9. I think the Marshall vs Longview game will be alot closer this year than last year. Yes last years game was an easy win. But the 2 years before that were fairly close games. When Marshall hangs on to the football they usually keep it respectable when playing Longview. I expect turnovers to play a big part in this district title race with 4 teams being so even in talent and capable of scoring every time they touch the ball. I also think 2009 will be Longview's year to most likely sweep the district and go deep if not win state. The key to Longview's success this year is going to be the play of the rb's and fb's. Last few years you have had dominate rbs to hand the ball off to and make plays(Mark Johnson, Vondrell, Ivory)If no one steps up to the level of play these guys had then It could be alot tougher to put teams away.
  10. Is that the same Leonard Leutelle that played for Marshall the last couple years? If so how did he end up in Nac? He was supposed to be moving back to Hawaii or Iowa for his sr season if he couldn't stay and play in Marshall. I was hoping he was staying put in Marshall because he's basically started on the DL since his soph season.
  11. I think you can tell a little more about pass oriented teams in 7 on 7 than any others. If you're a pass happy team in the fall, then you should be expected to compete better in 7 on 7. Marshall is a balanced running team, that likes to pass enough to keep teams honest against the run. Maybe about 65% run to 35% pass(depending on what that particular defense gives). Marshall has lost to plenty of teams over the past few years in 7 on 7 that they probably would have smoked when the pads came on. See 2005; State Runner-up in the fall, but couldn't have beaten Texas School for the blind in 7 on 7 that year. That said, its still good work for running based teams for when they do have to pass or defend against the pass come fall.
  12. Are you thinking of the 3a or 2a Huntington from Texas,Try Me? This is Shreveport Huntington. We didn't play them last year, but played them several years in a row before that. Marshall should win, but they will be a much better team than the teams we dominated in previous years. They will be way too talented next season to overlook and have a highly recruited 6'8 DE.
  13. 5a:Katy/ Trinity 4a:Lake Travis/ Lamar Consolidated 3a:Liberty Hill/Celina 2a:Farmersville/ Canadian 1a:Alto/Munday
  14. Yes they did. It was the worse weather I can remember sitting through. Second year program or not, Mckinney Boyd was in the second round of the playoffs too at that time. They were no slouch. Marshall got beat down by a Cy Woods team that wasn't even in their first year last season. So that logic means nothing. Both teams are 5a as well. Texas High, the team Marshall beat in the first round was better than Boyd IMO. Just goes to show you play poorly in the playoffs and the competition is usually too great to overcome.
  15. #30 is Aaron Franklin. He started as a sophomore last year at outside LB/ DB. So far this spring they have him at starting Inside LB. I don't know if I like that move, because he is the second fastest guy on the team and in this district after D Jones. Franklin won district in the 200m. Jones won in the 100m. He is already seeing early interest from many D-1's including Texas.
  16. If Longview has the speed of Marshall(They don't), a quarterback like Rollison(They don't), and a loaded experienced defensive front 7 like Texas High's(They don't), then I am ready to go ahead and hand over a district and state title to them. Not saying won't be a great overall team though and could very well put it together and win both anyways. Longview will be talented, but will be young next year compared to the other district teams. They will compete for the district title, but won't be an easy ride for any team. I know they will put up points, but we will see how well the young defense comes together. The defense you had last year was experienced and very talented. The thing thats always made longviews defense good (at least against Marshall) was ability to create turnovers. Marshall had very good yardage against them last year, but could not cash in. Longview usually seems to peak early too(while others pick it up toward mid to late season), so by the time district rolls around it will get tough on the lobos. Offense seems to be the strength of the top teams in district, so whichever team comes up with the best defensive play should take this district. I don't see any district defense holding Longview, Marshall, Texas High, or Sulpher Springs to under 21 points. Lobos will have to wait till 09 to dominate this district. Not looking forward to that game in 2 years.
  17. He wasn't the leading wr on the team last year, there was 2 or 3 ahead of him. He probably had the highest yards per catch avg though. As a sophomore he started at wr and was very effective on the motion hand offs and may have been one of the top wr's that year. Last season he was at quarterback 90% of the time.BTW Jones managed to medal in 3 events at the Regional track meet. Took 3rd in the 100m, second in the triple jump, and won gold in the long jump.Congrats to him and others from 12-4a & 11-4a for representing East Texas well.
  18. Marshall's Darius Jones takes Bronze in 100m, takes silver in the triple jump, and takes gold in the long jump.(4a Region II Meet in Denton). He could of got 3 golds, but he wanted one of each.... Jk.....
  19. He started every game I believe, but did split time with Hood on a few passing situations(or just to change it up for a series to see how the other team would defend it with Jones at wr). Hood came in and played an incredibly gutsy game against Texas High in the playoffs to help with the comeback. Jones had a injured throwing hand in that game and was pulled after a few series and put in at Wr.
  20. Article on Marshall's Qb (Jones)from Aggie's Scouting page. One of the fastest, most versatile athletes in the state will be in Aggieland this weekend, but what is he looking for from the trip? Aggie Websider's David Sandhop visits with Marshall (TX) athlete Darius Jones about his talents and his timeline for choosing a school. Darius Jones is a man of many talents. On the football field, the 6-foot, 175-pound athlete has played defensive back, wide receiver, and quarterback in his distinguished career at Marshall (TX) High School. In the spring, he’s busy on the track where he competes in the 100 m dash, the triple jump, and the long jump in addition to some of the relay teams. “So far this season, I’ve run a 10.51 in the 100,” Jones said. “I jumped 47’ 5” in the triple jump, and I hit 23’5” in the long jump. We have regionals coming up next week and I hope to improve on those marks.” His versatility, speed, and overall athleticism has caught the eye of several high level Division I programs. Despite his busy schedule and offers from a long list of suitors like Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Louisiana Tech, Jones indicated that he’s already narrowed his list down and could be ready to make a final decision in the near future. “A&M is probably my top choice right now,” Jones said. “I talk to Coach Jordan a lot and I enjoy talking to him. I’m still looking at OU and LSU. Those are probably my top three.” Jones is tentatively scheduled to attend this weekend’s spring game at Texas A&M, but he and fellow teammate Damion Smith are trying to finalize their plans. “We’re trying to get down there if we can work it out,” Jones said. “We’re still working on our schedule and finding a ride. I’m not sure yet if we’ll be able to make it.” Other than his trip to see the Aggies this weekend, Jones currently has no additional plans in place to visit any other schools including Oklahoma and LSU. However, the Marshall native did say that a decision may be on the horizon. “I’m getting close to a decision. It should be in the next couple of weeks,” Jones said. “I need to sit down with my parents and talk it over with them and my coach and then I’ll pull the trigger.” In the meantime, Jones will continue to stay busy and work toward qualifying for the state 4A track meet later this spring.
  21. I didn't see the other Freshmen Qb's last year, but they must have been awesome to have a better arm than the Marshall qb. Just because the team didn't do to well doesn't mean the Qb wasn't good. You can have the best arm ever, but if your wr's don't catch well then it means nothing. He should prove himself on varsity with better receivers. Can't truly judge a qb until he gets on the varsity level or higher. The games I watched of him, he was throwing some of the most accurate deep passes Ive ever seen from a freshmen Qb.
  22. :bangin: Now I know why the Kilgore guy felt the need to get banned after nonsense from a Whitehouse poster. Anybody? Defense Sulpher Springs runs? What about Mt. Pleasant?
  23. Why don't you drop this already, Its a harmless comparison from seeing him on the field with other freshmen. I never said he was as tall as Mallett. But on the field he was comparable being that he is just a freshman. And no I'm not a relative. You're not hurting anyones feelings. You just keep over reacting to a post that was just about a kid that has potential. Back on topic, I see Jones and Hancock splitting snaps at Qb like Jones and Hood did last season. Anyone know what type of defense Sulpher Springs runs?
  24. I know, just the way you were talking was like I compared him to Mallett talent wise. Its too early to do that. And I was told CH is around 6'4, which is what I meant when I was comparing them. Which isn't too tall, but the way he stood out in the huddle around other freshmen made myself and others think of Mallett. Play wise, CH reminded me of a young inexperienced Brett Favre. Oops, there I go making comparisons again. Hopefully a few years from now we will be comparing other Qbs to CH.
