Recruiting happens. And it's a shame that it's what high school sports have become. Although even in the 80's you'd hear about Permian boosters hiring people to get their kid to Odessa. But it seems more widespread now. Was talking to a coach in the Dallas area this winter that said when he was coaching in FWISD it was nothing new to see the football staff of a current football power and state champ show up and talk to kids at the FWISD junior high district track meets. Next thing you know the studs from those FWISD junior highs are enrolled at that school the next year. Cheating is only going to get worse now that we've let 7 on 7 become exactly like AAU basketball. At least Texas has their high school 7 on 7 summer series/championship. It's become a full blown disaster in other states. Their are other recent stories out there about coaches that cheated, won state champs and parlayed that into better coaching jobs at the Texas High School level. It's not that much unlike the NCAA football landscape lol.

I think that article is wrong. I think Jordan Gill is the DC at Gunter, not the OC.

I think they have a special school board meeting on Monday so I'm guessing the final 3 are doing the whole on campus tour thing this week and then a decision will be made?

Good classes coming 7th - 10th. It's just a matter of getting kids to buy in. Navasota is not a super easy place to coach even though they usually have good athletes. I believe it is AD/HC.

I know a guy making a run at it that would be awesome there. Has won a state championship as a coordinator and been a successful head coach.

Basketball will try to be king or they are just good at basketball?

Are there any schools that dont do 7 on 7

I said a few years ago it would be smart of the UIL to let school coaches coach their 7v7 teams to try and get out in front of the leeches that are now forming these "club" 7 v 7 teams. The last thing you needed was the AAU version of 7v7 in Texas. I know Florida's 7v7 league has basically become AAU where it's more about the individual than the team and the coaches are just looking to rub elbows with Power 5 coaches to try and get a job. Texas' spring rules and "athletic periods" are a great leg up on other states. But their summer rules are still pretty draconian. -
UPDATE: Mount Vernon hires Clayton George

Interesting. That's a departure from what he did at Lewisville in the 70's and Mount Vernon in the 80's-90's. Singlewing is a mother to stop. -

He's still alive and kicking from what I understand. Slot I/Power I, not single wing. But yeah, you kind of knew what was coming with W.E. -

Is the community support bad in Mount Vernon? -

His wife is from Sulphur Springs so I'm guessing they'll move back to the area. "It’s exciting for my family and I to join a great school district and community," he said. "It’s a chance to be back home and close to family. My wife is from Sulphur Springs, so its very close to where she’s from. We are ready to add a lot of purple to our wardrobe." -

Passing a bond in MV has always been an issue hasn't it? All those folks down by the lake don't care if there's turf on the football field. -

Usually a coach that successful at a 3A level can get a HC job at a better school. Surprised he's not moving up the ladder with a new HC job. I'm guessing MV will be down for a few years. Probably getting out and moving to a 6A coordinator job is better for his resume than staying at MV for another year. That's obviously speculation on my part. I have no idea what MV has coming back next year. -
