  1. Longview has 4 consecutive weeks of HUGE matchups this fall.

Week 3 - vs South Oak Cliff (the big one that everyone is talking about)

Week 4 - vs Ruston, LA (this game, not enough people are talking about it. Ruston won the Louisiana 5A state championship last year and was in the state title game a year before. HC Jerrod Baugh use to be OC under King at Longview).

Week 6 - vs Rockwall (11-2 last year)

    Week 7- @ Forney (13-2 last year)

That's a tough 4 game stretch. Thank goodness for the BYE in Week 5.

A tricky Week 1 game down in Lufkin, so should be a fun schedule.

Did they teach you how to answer questions at Lee?

He asked you who Lee would beat, and you haven't answered. Wait and see ain't an answer.

Heck yeah I’m sure it is.

If schools the size of Marshall, Hallsville, and Whitehouse (1500-ish) don’t want to play schools like Lufkin and Longview (2200-ish) for district football;  Just imagine smaller 5A D2 schools like Jacksonville, Terrell, Crandall (1300-ish)

Im willing to bet we see the split eventually spread to other sports for the same reasons.

The gulf between the bottom of D2 and the top of D2 is enormous. Almost 1,000 students  difference.

Eh, I hear ya but many in 6A are dealing with large gaps in district play alone....both Rockwall schools have 700 more kids than Longview and during playoff runs, it's nothing to play a school with 1000+ more.

I just always thought enrollment differences had higher effect on 4A below. 5A and 6A are more so about participation #s and what you have in the program IMO.

At some point, safety has to be a priority. I'm literally happy as heck that Longview went back 6A because of pre split in 5A D1. Trips to McKinney and Sherman turn into Forney and Royse City. Heck, we don't even have to go to Mesquite anymore. I'll take it.

I bet Lufkin people wish they were 6A right about now.

Someone on the 6A site said North Shore reached out to Longview but they declined.

Can't trust everything that dude says. Notice how he only started coming around the 6A boards when NS started on this run, so he's borderline bandwagon in my book.

Anyway, I am almost 100% sure Longview would not decline a matchup like that. It's not our style. I told him that when he posted it on the 6A boards a while back.

Now....are we doing the reaching out and actively seeking matchups like a NS or DV....that's another conversation. We use to, not so sure about that anymore. We're also always going to prioritize playing Marshall over anybody else in the state for whatever reason, so that's one slot that's automatically taken up space every non district.

I know King has talked about scheduling in the past. About how scheduling ETX teams works wonders for subvarsity scheduling as well. I hear that but...everyone else figures that stuff out.

I'm actually not a believer that you need a super loaded non district to make it far. It helps, but it's not end all be all. Our 2018 team had a similar non district as the one we're about to have. You either got it or you dont. I do think that you need at least one very formidable opponent in non district and that very well could be Ruston for us. Problem is we didnt really prioritize the matchup IMO. Its tentatively Week 4 and I bet Longview ends up in too large of a district. Also would've been nice to find something big on the Texas side for 2 years.

Haven't seen anything from the Lufkin side of things. Sort of fill in the blank with what has been posted here, with Longview - Week1 and Nacogdoches - Week #3.  Need to see what district we end up, 7 or 8 teams.    Not sure if A&M Consolidated or Tyler legacy stay in play or not.  Don't anticipate much new movement on the the part of the Panther leadership.

Tyler may be playing Legacy Week 2.

    Could get interesting for LP.

Honestly, not super familiar with him or his recruitment out of high school. I know OU was in the mix but not sure about now.

    I'm pretty familiar with him.

Played against my Lobos at Mesquite Horn before going over to Duncanville to play for Reginald Samples.

Blackshire looks the part, but IMO, doesn't particular play up to his looks. But hey, more depth at LB....I'll take it.

Alabama WR Isaiah Bond has entered the transfer portal and Texas is the favorite to land him.

Would be a massive get for the Horns.

    To say the least....

We land him and Texas will far and away have the #1 offense in college football next season.

This is why I laugh at people that think Sark would leave Texas for Bama. For what? The portal era is alive and while.

Is Texas going to be desperate enough at WR to bring in Evan Stewart?

I don't know how I feel about that.

Stewart is talented but I sort of don't want him at the same time.

We got Golden from UH in the portal, so there's something. Cook will make the biggest leap on the entire team next year IMO. Wingo is good enough to play in rotation as a true freshman. Deandre Moore is pretty interesting and Niblett's speed in the slot alone makes him another interesting player. He was 10.4 in the 100m in HS.

If Im Jalen Hale, I seriously reconsider being at Bama. He's Day one starter at Texas. And he'll actually have a QB to get him the ball.

Running back is the biggest question mark for Texas in my opinion .... I would love to land Judkins through the portal ....

TE has to be the biggest question mark with Sanders declaring. Matter of fact, we need to land a portal TE badly but I wonder if it's too late in the game.

2nd area of concern for me is interior DL. Thank goodness Collins is coming back but Carter and Ross hit the portal. Murphy and Sweat declared. We lost a lot of bodies in the middle of the DL.

Good news is behind them, LB should be very strong. Anthony Hill probably moves over to Mike LB, Trey Moore at Will. Nasty combo. Sark has recruited LB very well since being at Texas though, so wouldn't be shocked if they asked Trey Moore to be a full blown rushing DE....pushing someone like Sorrell to the inside. Texas will be one of the most dangerous pass rushing teams in America next year.

To be fair, Penix did that to pretty much every college QB this year. I don't understand how or why anyone drafts any QB ahead of him, dude's got the goods. He's as fully developed a college QB as I've seen since Burrow.

Penix and Caleb Williams are neck and neck for me. Whoever lands Bo Nix can't do any wrong either.

It's a very strong QB class. Even Cam Ward is sneaky good and may be in better position than the others because he could end up on a team that has everything except QB. Not as big on Maye, Daniels or Mccarthy as others but it was part of the reason that I wanted my Texans to wait another year to get QB.

Yes, Stroud is doing well (to say the least). But I don't think he's anything that they couldn't have gotten this year.

For me, the jury is still out on Baxter.  Certainly the potential is there and there are flashes where he runs hard.  He did get better with his determination as the year went on but I am a bit concerned with his overall "toughness".  I am not sure what his pain management level is.  I noticed during the UW game, when he pulled up lame late in the game on the far sideline, one of the coaches was really into his ear as they walked back across the field.  From the looks of the expression from the coach he was telling Baxter to "suck it up".

    I hear ya.

    Hopefully I'm wrong about Blue.

Will be interesting to see how Red fits in all of this too. Sark definitely likes Red.

Honestly this is an ridiculous statement. Blue averaged 6.1 ypc, during the season. Over a yard more than Baxter at 4.8. Brooks will go into the draft. Unfortunately he will have to take a hit on his draft status or wait another without any significant new video on him. He won't be available to go until November next year.

Brooks averaged over 6 YPC and had what, double the amount of carries that Blue had? Not much of it was empty calories either. Robinson led the team in YPC.

Baxter did more as a true freshman than any back since, Jamaal Charles? It's not hard to see the trajectory he is on...future 1st/2nd rounder.

Blue is a situational back, not a bell cow. There are levels to this.

Blue is by far the fastest RB and biggest homerun threat.

Man I get it....people started falling in love with Blue after the Tech game but uh, did Keilan Robinson die or something? He was the fastest RB on the roster. Blue was 2nd but his game is heavily dependent on quickness and elusiveness. Very gifted in both areas.

Speed also doesn't automatically mean you're the biggest homerun threat out there. Shoot alot of times, fast RBs don't allow enough time for holes to develop. That was Robinson's problem, although he did lead the team in YPC.

Brooks was the most gifted runner on the team this year. It's not the 'funnest' style of running to watch but it got the job done.

Baxter has the highest ceiling. RB1 next season if Brooks leaves.
