Yeah, I think the reporter messed it up.

In my experience, it varies from program to program.

Asst. AD, not Asst. HC.

There are a lot of Lobo alums out there in the coaching world, and the Collins/King coaching tree has a pretty far reach. What up and coming young coach wouldn't want to coach the Lobos? Awesome kids and families. Facilities on a serious come-up. Supportive administration. Passionate fanbase. A brilliant and gorgeous man in upper administration that many have described as a genius.

https://www.lobosfootball.com/coaches-staff On offense there are six position coaches. Oscar "GOAT" Wilson is the Asst. HC and RBs Coach. Chris Vallery was QB Coach in addition to being O.C. That leaves... David Ashley: TEs Coach Jalen Claiborne: WRs Coach Chad Hancock: OL Coach JR Tatum: OL Coach If we were to promote from within, I imagine it would be one of those guys.

I don't know, I would guess it depends on how it's structured. If he was previously an OC, it would seem that Asst. Head Coach is a step up, no? Also would probably depends on how the money and class load works out. None of which I have any insight to.

In the works...

My post with s was about Vallery. He's headed to Henderson as assistant HC, which means Longview appears to have a vacancy at Offensive Coordinator/QB Coach:

It's amazing how little you know about this, and yet are still so bold to comment. Fascinating.

It's crazy what the right hire can do.
-
Fun fact: Center had a legit shot at the guy 30 minutes north of them back when he was still just an assistant. Imagine what might've been.

UPDATE: Henderson hires Ricky Meeks as new AD/HC

Congrats! -
Unrelated to this mysterious post, there's some new non-football news as well:
-
That's nice, but we could plug in any of the rising freshman RBs from Forest Park, Foster, or Judson and still have a 1,000-yard back.
-
Yes... there's a lot of happenings, uh... happening.

UPDATE: Henderson hires Ricky Meeks as new AD/HC

The upshot is that Henderson is now uniquely positioned to really take things to the next level: great Superintendent + solid AD. Now the board needs to get outta the way and let these guys do their jobs. -

An absolute home run hire. Bowman has quietly built up one of the best administrative resumes in East Texas. Dude can do it all. Say what you will about their recent decisions, but they absolutely knocked it outta the park with this hire. Well done. -
Yep, and I can totally see teams/conferences playing the long game. When those CFP seedings came out I literally LOL'd seeing Arizona State and Boise up there, with poor widdle Texas, Penn State, and Ohio State near the back of the pack. Pshyeah, right.

Same. I would like to see some data. Not that I'm necessarily against it, but I'm a data guy.

I am certainly not opposed to this development (if it indeed happens) but I would urge caution of my fellow Sooner faithful. Defense has not been the problem. As much expertise and skill as Knowles would bring to the defensive production, I remain skeptical that Venables's tenure is going to work out. The biggest positive (for me) in hiring Knowles (if, in fact, he actually accepts) is that it gives us an adequate interim head coach to finish next season once BV is fired.

One issue I've been curious about since the CCGs... what's to stop a blueblood team from holding back starters from a regular season game (or even the CCG!) if they feel like their overall resume assures they'll get a low seed? Like, just for fun, let's pretend like Ryan Day is an evil genius on par with Machiavelli, and he deliberately dropped games to Oregon and Michigan to avoid being in the Big 10 title game, knowing full well they'd blowout everyone else. Yeah, not saying it's likely, just putting it out there. We all know the NFL teams rest starters at the end of the regular season. Who's to say a solid CFB program with CFP ambitions doesn't ease off strategically to gain a smoother playoff road?
-
Val's perspective on OU is generally a bit less alarmist and more rational than mine, so take that into consideration.
-
NIL and Transfer Portal. Same as every other blueblood. It's a Wild West time for CFB, and you're either quick or dead. The only difference is that some programs have leaned into this rapidly shifting new normal, while our Athletics leadership has waited around for the "rules" to be set. Now, it seems, we're finally trying to make some infrastructure moves, but we've fallen so far behind in such a short time. Even with some recent adjustments, I just don't think Castiglione has the stones to have the kind of go-for-the-jugular it's going to take to be elite. Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas, Georgia, Oregon, etc. aren't worried about how much pasta linemen eat in the cafeteria, instead they're wheeling-dealing and giving their linemen endorsement deals at the local pizza pub. It's going to cost Venables his job, and Castiglione's as well. Maybe even Harrotz if he doesn't get with the program.

Rumor Mill: ETBU investigating move up to D-2
Mr. P replied to Mavchamp's topic in College Football/Sports
I have fallen in love with *many* gorgeous historical houses in Marshall, and fantasized how I could move them to Longview, because I would never actually live in Marshall.
