  1. It sucks for these seniors. Compared to the 7 teams thar made at least the quarterfinals last decade (2010–19) the talent level is not quite what it was for the 1 state team and maybe not the 2 semifinalist teams, but it’s no different from the other 5. The first 3 years of last decade Henderson played 14 playoff games, went 12-2, went to 3 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals, 1 championship game, and won 1 championship. For the 10 seasons of the decade, played 29 playoff games and won 22 of them. The first 3 seasons of this decade so far … 2 missed playoffs and 1 playoff appearance that consisted of 1 bi-district game loss.
  2. No one started a conversation for this game yet so here goes. I think most Henderson people are a mixture of speechless from being in shock and following momma’s advice about what to do when you can’t say something nice. Athens here’s yalls shot for the first time since Game 4 of the 2001 season (2 weeks after 9/11) to get a win. Game 6: Athens (2-4; 0-2) at Henderson (0-5; 0-1) 36th meeting Henderson leads all-time 26 to 7 and there have been 2 ties. First meeting: 1934; Athens 14 - Henderson 7 Last meeting: 2021; Henderson 58 - Athens 41 Henderson has won 15 out of the last 16, including the last 6 in a row. Athens’ last win was by a score of 31-21 in 2001. Athens’ 14-7 win in the schools’ first ever meeting back in 1934 was the Lions’ only loss that season. The schools have met once in the playoffs … an opening round bi-district game in 1992 won by Henderson 40-14. Last year’s game was a shootout instead of a blowout mainly because of one man … Athens’ returning senior QB Ty Arroyo who had 434 yards of total offense (298 passing & 136 rushing), ran for 4 TDs, and passed for another. 4AD1 rankings: DCTF/AP: Athens - 67 (down 7) Henderson - 69 (down 1) MaxPreps: Athens - 42 Henderson - 56 CalPreps power ranking: Athens - 42 Henderson- 56 Predictions: DCTF: Henderson by 2 CalPreps: Athens 35 - Henderson 34 Henderson has lost 10 games in a row overall (as well as the last 6 district games). This qualifies as the second longest losing streak in school history after a 12 game losing streak during the 2007-08 seasons. This season Henderson is 0-5. The program has had 2 seasons (2006 & 2008) that ended with a record of 1-9. Henderson has never had an 0-10 season in school history. Friday night will be Coach Othell Robinson’s 16th game as the Lions’ head coach. He is 3-12 overall, 1-6 in district games, and 0-0 in playoff games at Henderson.
  3. Burton won by 1. Tennyhaw is almost as big a mess as Henderson. Lol
  4. CalPreps has already adjusted taking this weeks games into account. They have Mart and Carlisle ranked #1 and 2 in 2AD2 and the predicted score for the Tenaha game is 56-14.
  5. We are about to get another change I bet. Marshall got Lake Travis offensive coordinator then when he left got Cuero’s head coach. Chapel Hill got Crosby’s head coach. Henderson made national news twice by getting Plano’s head coach (3 state championships and a national championship) and then Daingerfield’s (2 state championships and #5 in Texas all time wins). Really good coaches want to see if they can make it big in East Texas. It can be done the right way and someone who knows what they are doing will hopefully do it right this time.
  6. Who was happy? No one knew a thing about the guy. It was obviously a horrible hire and the people who caused it to happen need to go too. The program had stagnated and was not making progress. A change needed to be made probably but the one that was made was really bad.
  7. This is ridiculous. Why should this coach get to finish the season out?
  8. Don’t let the first 5-6 plays of the game fool you … same old sh*t since then. Penalties at least every other play. A lot of drives every play. More penalty yards than offensive yards. Wasted golden opportunity to score TD. Missed FG. Wasted 2 of 3 timeouts in first 6 mins of 1st quarter. No defense. Turnover. Had to take delay of game or waste last timeout still in 1st quarter. Same stuff every week.
  9. Chapel Hill was pretty good. Henderson only beat them by 7.
  10. Game 5: Henderson (0-4) at Lindale (2-2) 11th meeting Henderson leads all-time 6-4 First meeting: 1990; Henderson 24 - Lindale 17 Last meeting: 2021; Lindale 28 - Henderson 21 Henderson won the first 4 meetings. Lindale has won 4 of the last 6 since then (including the last 2) with the 2 exceptions being 2nd round area playoff games in 2010 and 2011, years in which Henderson won state and went to the semifinals. 4AD1 rankings: DCTF/AP: Lindale - 12 (no change) Henderson - 69 (down 5) MaxPreps: Lindale - 12 Henderson - 50 CalPreps power ranking: Lindale - 12 Henderson - 49 Predictions: DCTF: Lindale by 34 CalPreps: Lindale 44 - Henderson 21 Henderson has lost 9 games in a row overall (as well as the last 5 district games). This qualifies as the second longest losing streak in school history after a 12 game losing streak during the 2007-08 seasons. This season Henderson is 0-4. The program has had 2 seasons (2006 & 2008) that ended with a record of 1-9. Henderson has never had an 0-10 season in school history. Tonight will be Coach Othell Robinson’s 15th game as the Lions’ head coach. He is 3-11 overall, 1-5 in district games, and 0-0 in playoff games at Henderson. It will be Coach Chris Cochran’s 66th game as Lindale’s head coach. He is 40-25 overall, 22-9 in district games, and 7-4 in playoff games at Lindale.
  11. DCTF has Carlisle favored by 43 CalPreps has Carlisle ranked #3 and their score prediction is 62-7.
  12. We are an embarrassment. We will almost surely go 0-10. Which I do not think has ever happened. Unless Athens and or Jville’s QB gets hurt. If we did not have more penalty yards tonight than offensive yards it was close. The 4 opponents have scored 26, 49, 44, and 53 points. This coach is currently 3-11. And has lost 9 in a row which also may not have ever happened. If we do go 0-10 he will be 3-17 overall, 1-11 in district games, and 0-0 in playoff games. He and at least the assistant superintendent that pushed out the previous coach that went to the quarterfinals 4 times in 8 years and was tied for all time playoff game wins after just 8 seasons both have to go. The players/talent level is maybe not quite the level of the state and semifinal teams but basically the same as all the quarterfinal teams.
  13. Arp leading Tenaha by 3 TD. Mart beat Centerville by 1. Hawley beat Albany 26-14.
  14. Carlisle RB Brody Eaves is #1 in East Texas (all classes), #5 in Texas (all classes), and #73 in the nation in rushing … averaging 17.38 ypc and 231.7 ypg. 54 of the 72 players in the nation ahead of him have played either 1 or 2 more games. So among players who have played 3 games he is 19th in the nation. https://www.maxpreps.com/m/news/Sabn7bFklUe1cE2NUaIbew/high-school-football-fresh-off-monster-performance%2c-malaki-dowell-of-tennessee-leads-national-rushing-yardage-leaders.htm
  15. Texas Football picked Arp to win by 16. I commented let’s all check back late Friday because this prediction will not age well.
  16. Carlisle could win state just like Henderson did the first year we moved down a division. They are one of about 5 or 6 teams that could in 2AD2 this year.
  17. There are 2 different polls in DCTF each week. Carlisle is #10 in the official AP poll which is done by (sometimes biased) sportswriters voting. And in the computer rankings which is done by entering the same certain stats etc for every team and unbiased Carlisle is #6. (Another random example: In 4AD2 this week, Cuero is #1 in the computer rankings but #6 in the AP poll.) MaxPreps only has a computer poll (human voting not a factor and no separate human poll.) But for some reason, the first year after a school moves up or down they do not show up in the MaxPreps poll for their new division. So other examples this year are Jacksonville, Sulphur Springs, China Spring and 2 years ago Lindale did not show up. CalPreps only does a computer poll and Carlisle is #4 in that poll this week. Lone Star Gridiron doesn’t do their first poll until the 1st week of October and Pigskin Preps also has a poll but only subscribers can see it I think. Both of those sites only do 1 poll which for both sites is just done by people voting like the AP poll. The most accurate polls are probably the 3 computer polls in Texas Football, MaxPreps, and CalPreps.
  18. I think Carlisle is the 3rd best team in the state after Albany and Mart. But the main poll came out at noon and 2 top 10 teams lost and 4 more won by 7 points or less to teams they should have beat bad but they didn’t drop any of them out and kept Carlisle at #10. Also had who Carlisle played last week wrong.
  19. CalPreps moved Carlisle up to #4 in the rankings and predict Carlisle to beat Arp this week 56-14. The main AP poll doesn’t come out until tomorrow and they should be #6 or 7 probably.
  20. Game 2: Henderson at Hallsville 33rd meeting Henderson leads all-time 23-9 First meeting: 1974; Henderson 27 - Hallsville 14 Last meeting: 2021; Henderson 48 - Hallsville 47 Hallsville QB Jace Moseley passed for 235yds/3TD and ran for 166yds/1TD last week. Unfortunately, this may not be close. 4AD1 (for Henderson) and 5AD2 (for Hallsville) rankings: DCTF/AP: Henderson - 61 (down 10) Hallsville - 63 (up 13) MaxPreps: Henderson - 29 Hallsville - 13 CalPreps power ranking: Henderson- 33 Hallsville - 23 Predictions: DCTF: Hallsville by 13 CalPreps: Hallsville 35 - Henderson 31
  21. The whole district had a bad first week pretty much. Only winners were Palestine and Athens. Next week we may not have a top 10 team. Maybe CH will barely stay in. And the new District 5 will probably have Stephenville, CS, & LV be ranked 1, 2, & 5.
  22. Putting stock in watching all of the first game and both scrimmages. Not much good in any of them. If we don’t improve quite a bit I don’t see who we beat. Maybe Athens. And Henderson has very good players as almost always usual. So do the math. The computer score prediction for next week has already been adjusted since Thursday from 34-31 Henderson to 35-31 Hallsville.
  23. CalPreps has LE as the 9th best team out of 10 on our schedule. Meaning according to this we should go 1-9 if we lost to LE. It is going to be a long year and we may not win a game if we don’t improve quite a bit. The rest of the non-district schedule is 3 games against 5A teams that beat other 5A teams by 9, 14, and 16 points last night. We play Jville the last game which is the worst time to because they could be pretty good by then. And someone picked the CH game for homecoming. Team Ratings: Chapel Hill 31.4 Kilgore 27.4 Lindale 24.7 Henderson 9.9 Athens 7.7 Hallsville 6.6 Marshall 5.3 Palestine 1.2 Whitehouse -0.6 Liberty-Eylau -5.7 Jacksonville -7.5

  25. It is pretty annoying when opponents announcers don’t know this and say Eye-Loo all night.
