L-K for 50+ years has been blue and white…..football team had an all black uniform in 2023……saw several pictures of him at school, where he more than likely knew his picture was going to be taken that particular day, and he would have black and brown/tan clothes on with no blue or white…….Jerry Bennett was not a hometown L-K guy, but Jerry was proud to wear blue and white clothing while employed by L-K(just an example).
Clothing color does not make a person bad, by no means…..not saying he is not a good guy…….But never seen John King at Longview, Scott Surratt at Carthage, or Jeff Taylor when he was at Gilmer wear clothes not in line with their school.

If you wrote 5 lines of trolling nice job. If you actually believe black uniforms are a solid reason to be on your 4th head coach in 5 years, you're part of the reason this is a bad job.

Don’t think it ever officially was. It was never posted even on the school site.

If I remember correctly, UG did something similar last time. Very quick hush hush hire with no postings or interviews.

  3. Tough gig. Like other schools in the area I think they are making a mistake moving on from a guy thats tied to the area and would likely be there for the long haul. They will be on their 4th coach in 5 years. Of their last 10 coaches only 2 coaches have stayed long enough to coach a class from their freshmen through senior year. Tough to grow success.

Town is drying up. Its tough to find schools around you that you can compete with and beat in pre district. District you're fighting for 4th at best.

Hiring coaches is a nightmare. Pay is atrocious as in some of the lowest in the state. Live in the middle of nowhere or commute. Work hard to not be very good at anything. The AD that hires you will likely be gone in 2 years.

    A. Doubt that works…. I DO think he did a good job when he was there. They over achieved most years.

    B. More of the same? People wanted the athletic program to move forward a year ago, and come out of 1995. There is still hope of that. Just bc the most recent was a slap, doesn’t mean they all are. Hire better.

An offense doesn’t make your identity.  The “it has to be slot t” is rediculious. I don’t think spread is the answer necessarily. But any veer, triple option, power run offense (run right) could get it done. Get something the kids have fun with, bought in.

Pretty sure the last guy was flexbone. Didn't work well. Still need athletes. Simply put read offenses take time to get better at. I don't feel like HS has time. They botched it, program is spiraling, kids aren't playing, town is divided. Go through some ugly weeks of learning veer and triple and new guy has another smoaky thread talking about when he'll get fired.

If "more of the same" is consistent playoff appearances and maxing out talent then I think HS would be on board. You also assume great coaches are beating down the door to go to an 0-10 team, in the middle of nowhere, that got hammered in realignment. Someone with an emotional attachment to HS and the way things were might apply.

  5. A. Call Ed back

    B. Call someone that worked for Ed.

Go back to the Slot-T. Bring back your identity of being hard working tough kids that will be in and fight every game. Tell everyone that complains about old school coaching and system to move.

    This is the way.

Didn't post to hear people's Philosophy of Basketball vs Football, just wondering who is applying for the job?!

Sorry instructions were unclear. You should have posted "I want names only no discussion about anything else on a discussion forum"

might need to check how many key players play football, not just the school has the sport

I know Benjamins key player did, MVP of the state football game. I'd imagine that's true for all the 1As just by numbers available. Not going to look every one up but Shelbyville every kid but one is listed on both max preps rosters. The point being football and basketball can coexist. Whether its sharing kids or not. And the idea of that football is killing good basketball coaches is a common excuse for bad basketball coaches to use. Does it happen? Sure. Do most HFC only care deeply about football? Yes. Do most basketball coaches only care deeply about basketball? Also yes. That's why this is an attractive job. Only do what you care about doing.

They should. Football gets in the way of a lot of good basketball coaches across the state.

Eh maybe. Or its an excuse.

A lot of basketball only schools from 1A to 4A lost to schools with football.

Lets look at the state tournament for small schools: 1A: Jayton, Benjamin, and Gordon all had deep football runs. 2A: New Home, Thrall, Shelbyville all have football, 3A:Holliday, Ponder, Cole and Hitchcock all have football. 4A: Stafford, Silsbee, and Randall have football.

I think its more so no one really wants to invest the time and effort into something they don't enjoy (if they coach football). Or if there is an opportunity to be around a school and culture that matches what your passion you want to do it. You get to be the AD and your the primetime of the community. Also yes you don't have to share kids.

What's everyone hearing on who's applying for this MP Chapel Hill job.  Should be able to get a good Basketball coach with the success they've had.

Every basketball coach that hates coaching or dealing with football is applying for this job.

  10. I don't understand this from both sides. Fire the winningest coach in program history for a first time HC. I understand this guy is getting his first job and maybe that's all he wanted, but what stability are you giving your family? You are signing up to be ran off in 3 years max. If you don't do better than the guy that has 20% of the schools all time playoff appearances.

  11. Your tax money will go to the wealthy that already attend private schools and the wealthy that own the private schools. That's it. As it works right now your money goes to the state, the state pays the schools based on attendance. Somehow the state is magically finding more money per student to go to vouchers than the state will give a school for each student.

Private schools maintain the ability to reject students, they do not have to take state mandatory testing, or follow any state rules. They are still private. They can and will reject students with learning disabilities and place the cost at a price point that keeps unwanted kids from attending on a coupon.

As far as athletics go I doubt there will be any changes.

You seem to forget that Russel left Harmony for a bigger payday at Pine Tree. Great guy and he still has plenty of supporters at Harmony but tell the whole story.

Yea man I don't see how that's relevant to anything I said. I said coaches should leave and chase paydays. Russel thought he made a mistake chasing the money, I don't think he did. He returned to Harmony and coached for 12 years and got mobbed out. Since 2004 there have been 8 years Russel hasn't coached Harmony. They went through 4 coaches in those 8 years. But yea that one time 20 years ago Russel chased a big school and big money adds so much needed depth to the "whole story".

He got forced out even though he was the most successful coach in the the history of the school at that time too lol.

    People have no idea.

Most successful coach in school history by both wins AND the character/ relationship building Ghost was talking about. There are few people that are more respected in the coaching profession than Russel. Considered a high character guy. Had almost every kid in high school athletics, was considered a great boss and had low turnover. Everyone knows he got forced out because of some selfish parents. Hey they got what they wanted Jenkins did well with that group and now they are gone and so is he.

I will never blame a coach for doing what he thinks is best for his family and career. High school coaches are always considered outsiders, and parents will always put their kids over a coach's family, or other kids in the program. Jenkins has gone 1 year, 2 years, 2 years at schools, but has gotten to leave on his own accord and done well at all. Russel invested 15 years at Harmony, called a place home and got mobbed out anyway.

The good news is with the 6 man teams Ludlow scheduled, y’all should win 2 or 3 this year before getting crushed in District. Lol

We'll know pretty early. I think Eustace is the worst team they have pre district. Never know with PP (can't believe a 3AD1 is playing a down 2A) but they hired a good coach and have potential/tradition. QC and Quitman have improved in the past years. If they lose game 1, its probably 0-10.

So Lufkin did not want to drive to Burleson, I get that. But replace it with drives to Galveston?

The Galveston drive is still 30 mins closer than Burleson. In the old district every game but Tyler was 3 hours away. Now every game but Galveston is 2 and a half hours or less.
