  1. Melissa 28 Paris 27. Cards score TD on all running play drive
  2. Was that way in 1st q. Not so much in 2nd q as Paris had less than 25 yards offense in the quarter and Melissa picked off a pass. Cards to receive 2nd half kickoff.
  3. The Friday evening weather forecast has improved so not sure how factor weather will be at this point. Argyle-LaVega- I like probably everybody else thinks this will be a closer game than the earlier match up but still think the Eagles will win. Thinking Argyle maintains a 1-2 TD lead throughout the night and wins 37-20. The Eagle D is underrated this year and unlike previous years I do not think Argyle has peaked too soon. LV best chance is to jump out to early lead and then hope the Eagle mental state is 'oh no, here we go again'. A safe bet is whoever wins the coin flip takes the ball first. Tito Byce appears to be back and healthy and that is big for the Eagles state title hopes. Melissa-Paris- This game being played like a small victory for TX HS football over Covid as the district matchup was wiped out due to stupid Covid. Melissa's D especially against the run is improved quite a bit over past few years, so thinking Paris must throw well to win this game. Not sure if they can do that but with the QB a coaches son I'm sure they will be prepared. The Melissa O vs Paris D will be fun to watch. Melissa avg 50.3 points a game and Paris gives up ALOT less than that. Melissa avg just over 500 yds a game and Paris gives up ALOT less than that. Paris defeated a very good Midlo Heritage team 2 times and last week Melissa handled a feisty previously unbeaten Kennedale squad holding them to 1 offensive TD and under 150 yards rushing. It may come down to special team/turnovers and giving Melissa a slight edge there. I like the Cardinals 39-30.
  4. As predicted this region was mostly blow-out city in bi-district round. Only W Hutchins-Kaufman was a close matchup. I think area round will feature a couple close games and a couple more blow-outs. Midlo Heritage vs Paris-- Paris 26 Heritage 24 This is a re-match of regular season game that Paris won 28-14. Paris ran all over Heritage the first time around but Heritage seems to improved alot since then and had a huge win over La Vega to win their district. I think think Heritage is the better all around team but thinking Paris wins again to gain a 3rd round matchup vs Melissa. If this occurs I feel almost like TX HS football had defeated Covid as a premier district game that was wiped out will eventually be played. Paris scores winning TD in final minute in a classic. Melissa vs Kennedale-- Melissa 33 Kennedale 20 Melissa has suffered the injury bug big-time and now best player lost for the year, but feel like with the depth and play makers they have will be enough to get past Kennedale. When looking over Kennedale's schedule the win over Wimberley is impressive but needing a last second FG to defeat a Sunnyvale team that Melissa destroyed the week before and a slim win over Benbrook make me wonder about the Wildcats. I think Kennedale's D will clearly be the best Melissa has seen since Argyle but will it be enough to stop the Cards who average over 50 points a game and have had 17 different players score TDs this year. Kennedale's lives by the run and Melissa's run D has actually played well overall this year. Argyle vs Stephenville-- Argyle 59 Stephenville 27 Stephenville's O is really good but their D not so much and that doesn't bode well against a team with the OL and weapons like Argyle. Just do not see SVille stopping Argyle much if at all. The Jackets will score some but not nearly enough. Perhaps SVille can catch the Eagles looking ahead to a possible showdown with LaVega but that's doubtful. La Vega vs Wilmer-Hutchins-- La Vega 54 Wilmer-Hutchins 15 This just will not be a close game...at all. I could see LV up by multiple scores by 2nd quarter then cruising with backups in 2nd half. With Rauls back at QB LV will be a tough out the rest of the way.
  5. Having seen both teams in person I will say SVille wil score some points, but Argyle will score at will. The player to watch for SVille is #13. He is one of the best I've seen this year, but SVille's D is not good and IMO Argyle's OL will impose their will. My prediction is Argyle scores early and often then cruises to a 59-27 win.
  6. Anna-Ranchview may actually be a close game. Both teams are really bad overall. Anna has a better balanced offense and can throw the ball with some success. Ranchview is superior upfront especially on D. Melissa held both teams to under 110 total yards and Cards D is solid but not great. IMO will be a close game and Anna wins by 10-12
  7. I think Carter is best of that district and would have been #1 seed but they had to forfeit games and will likely now face Melissa or Argyle in 1st round. Thinking D7 sweeps D8 and none of the games will be close.
  8. Paris would have destroyed Anna but IMO would not have beat Melissa, bad sadly we will never know. I do think these forfeits will have much impact on the district standings as I think they will finish 1-Argyle 2-Melissa 3-Paris 4-Kaufman and would have been the same without the forfeits
  9. Stop making stuff up regal LOL..only Melissa's last TD was on the Argyle backups and there was a long Rogers to Kirkpatrick TD pass in the 4th quarter and I'm sure that does not qualify as taking the foot off the gas. If Melissa hadn't turned the ball over 6 times and had 3 drives inside the Argyle 15 yd line with zero points this would have been a close game, but can't live life based on ifs. The Argyle D overall played very well and they are underrated.
  10. My thoughts on Argyle... The OL is very very good. They are not the biggest OL I've ever seen but their technique and physical play is rare on the 4A level. The Eagles D is underrated. I think holding LaVega to 7 was an eye-opener but now having seen the Argyle D in person there is not really a weak spot. Cole Kirkpatrick...just a incredible football player, Both of his TD catches were well defended and could have been INTs but he made the plays. Rogers is a very solid QB. My thoughts on Melissa.. Still a very solid team. Had 6 turnovers, 15+ penalties, 3 times inside the Argyle 15 with no points, allowed a blocked punt, had an onside kick returned for a TD and still only lost by 3 TDs to #1 team on the road. #8 maybe a better QB than #11, He certainly ran the offense better tonight. Thought a problem may be getting pressure on Rogers and this happened. Very little pressure all night and must improve in this area against good teams. Damon Youngblood is an absolute stud and still only a junior. Ashton Mitchell-Johnson played well and then appeared to suffer a concussion late in the game. Hope he's OK
  11. I will take a 20-0 first half lead. I'm still mad about how that game ended last year...
  12. Agree with this 100% and I'm thinking this is Rodgers plan
  13. The weather is the exact opposite of what it was last year when these team met in Argyle. I feel like Argyle is still the prohibitive favorite here as they dismantled PG & LV. Melissa will be the best offense they have faced. The key to me is how the first quarter plays out. The past 2 years Argyle jumped out to a big lead and Melissa played OK after that, but doing that against the eagles just won't end well.
  14. Melissa won the JV game 48-46. Melissa scored the go ahead touchdown with about 4 min left. Got a big stop on D forced an Argyle punt with 2 min 40 sec left. Facing 4th down from own own 9 yd line with 1 min 30 left Melissa elected to take intentional safety (Argyle had blocked 2 punts in 2nd Q) then held on D to get the win. Lots of young talent in pipeline for both teams.
  15. JV score update for anybody interested... at the half 28-28. Melissa was up 28-6 with 4 min left til half and Argyle scored 22 points to tie it up.
  16. Stephenville is a team that should not be overlooked. They thumped #3 highly ranked Dumas last week 46-33. They led that game 46-19 in the 4th quarter. #13 Morrison of Sville may be best player in 4A. Against Melissa he had over 200 yds receiving, played great on D, has some nice punts, kicked a 38 yd FG, filled the water bottles & drove the bus LOL. He also had a 96 yd TD reception against Dumas. SVille has depth issues with maybe only 35 players on roster but they are a good team.
  17. I'm sure Melissa can and will score on Argyle, I just not sure Melissa can stop Argyle more times than Argyle can stop Melisa. If they don't then it comes down to turnovers and special teams. Either way I just think the will be a shootout and thinking Argyle wins something like 54-39 but I will be there cheering on the Cards. An interesting though about Melissa's recent success. Since losing to Argyle last year the Cards have gone 8-1 on the field and the only loss was to LaVega 45-42 in a game they flushed away at the end. During this stretch Melissa has averaged over 44 PPG so the offense has really been rolling.
  18. All of this really ####. I would play a game on the field and lose than gain a win by forfeit. When non-district games were just cancelled it was disappointing to those teams but when district games start being forfeited it is a huge mess with impacting seeding...now imagine the playoff matchup forfeits that will likely happen as well. A few weeks ago I thought we had a chance of making it thru December and crowning champs, but really starting to wonder. On a positive note I watched the replay of the Argyle-Fairfield 2013 state championship game yesterday afternoon on FSSW and what a fantastic game that was. The Ian Sadler-Larry Rose show with knockout blows all throughout.
  19. The game has been cancelled due to Paris positive Covids. The game will not be played and Melissa wins by forfeit.
  20. Both are top 10 teams now. Melissa #8 Paris #10. Melissa is banged up on D but also has some depth and now have a 6-4 220 freshman seeing significant playing time on the DL. To me the biggest matchups to watch are the Card O vs Cat D and if the Cats can throw the ball on Melissa. The last 2 years were great games and think this one will be too but Cards pull away in 4th for a 2 TD win with all the depth and weapons. Melissa has had ELEVEN different players score TDs this year.
  21. Congrats to Argyle on the big win. I thought the Eagles would win but was thinking something like 28-17. When was the last time somebody beat LV by 4 TDs? and when was the last time somebody held LV to 7 points. I know LV was without their QB but that is still impressive showing by the Argyle D. There is quite a bit of discussion about Melissa in this thread and I can tell you when I saw 4 defensive starters on the sideline for the Cards with just jerseys and no pads on and also knew Youngblood was questionable tp play I knew this game might be a shootout. Youngblood never played a defensive snap until the 2nd q and then played maybe 40% of defensive plays after that. Regal, if you watched you know there were a couple turning points in the game. The first one was when Melissa went for it 4th and 2 on there own 30 with a 22-14 lead midway thru the 2nd q. they failed to convert and gave SVille a very short field to make it 22-21. That call proved to me Melissa staff knew they would need a very high point total to win. The huge turning point was the whole sequence in the final 1 min 50 sec of the first half. Cards QB appeared to likely be sacked and squirted out to run for a 63 yard TD. As he slowed and entered the endzone a HORRIBLE call was made as the only blocker near him was called for a block in the back. I think it happened after he crossed the goal line but even if it didn't the players were facing each other when the block occurred. They gave Melissa the ball on the 11. The Cards fumbled on the next play with the ball returned to around the 25. 2 long runs later Sville scored a TD and then pooched the KO and Melissa fumbled and Jackets kicked a long FG to end half. What looked to be a 36-21 lead for Melissa at half was a 31-29 deficit. Sville then went wild in the 3rd q but Melissa faced serious adversity for the 1st time this year and didn't panic, scoring 2 TDs late to win. Melissa finished the game with 448 yards rushing. Stephenville is a quality team that nobody should take lightly. They do lack depth as I'm guessing they maybe had 35 players dressed. #13 for the Jackets is a absolute stud on the football field. At this point I think Melissa can and will score on Argyle but not sure the Cards have any chance to stop the Eagles unless their D gets healthy. Thinking right now AHS wins something like 54-33. Melissa really has to worry about a good Paris team this week before they even give 1 thought to Argyle.
  22. It will be on Melissa's YouTube channel. Just type Melissa ISD in search at 7:30PM and it will come up. The camera angles/view won't be great but the radio guys are doing the play by play and are decent.
  23. It looks like the extremely intelligent football fans of regal and dotcom have covered it all well but just my small contribution follows. Celina D has actually played really well against good teams the 1st 2 weeks. Melissa scored 5 TDs but one was a freak tipped ball and another on a long TD run late in the 4th. Paris had 0 points til late in the 4th. If Celina can contain the big play and shut down the Argyle run game this one could be close. The Cats will obviously have to find some kind of passing game too. I think #14 for Celina may have a nice night running the ball, but will take way more than him for any potential upset to happen.
  24. This should be a really good matchup tonight of Cardinals vs. Cardinals. Both come in 2-0 and Pottsboro ranked #3 in 3A D1. Melissa has had TD catches from 7 different receivers in first 2 games, so lots of weapons in use. Pottsboro QB Plyler is the real deal and tough as nails. I think Potts will stay very close for a half then Melissa pulls away for a 2-3 TD win.
  25. I've seen Trinity Christian 2 times in person and 3 times on TV the past 3 seasons. in 2018 I thought they have some big dudes on that OL. Last year I said that may be the largest high school OL I've ever seen including 6A. And TV doesn't paint the picture as I was on the sideline standing 6-3 265 and these guys dwarfed me. I think most of those guys are back this year. Malakoff has a really good program going, but not sure this will be close. IMO TC was better than any 4A team I saw in person last year and that includes Argyle and LaVega.
