  1. Just read the piece on Dave Campbell on Hitchcock. They have 5d1 recruits that have won back to back 7on7 state championships and a state basketball championship this past season. If you read a previous piece on their predictions for 3a d1. The piece have them in 2nd in district behind Columbus. Losing in the regional semifinals to Lorena. How is it not possible with that talent that Hitchcock wouldn’t at least be predicted to be playing in the state semifinals?
  2. Academy won the lineman challenge championship in Abilene. This lineman competition was taking place the same time the 7 on 7 competition was going on in College Station. Academy has their 3 year starting QB returning. A sophomore running back that started as a freshman last season. He was accumulating some yardage and looking the part. A broken foot ended his season. I predict you’re going to see a very heavy dose of the running game from the Bees. Yes they will be a team to keep an eye on in district 11.
  3. The Yoemen will be jumping into the frying pan with their predistrict schedule. They open with Lago Vista then there is Yoakum, Bellville, Waco Connally ( both are preseason ranked in the top ten in 4a). If they survive that schedule basically injury free they open district playing Lorena. Depth will be Yoe’s #1 concern for 2023.
  4. This district is Franklin’s for the taking. Lorena on paper is the runner up. Let’s not overlook the Yoemen. They have both Franklin and Lorena at Yoe Field. That butt whooping Yoe took last season over in Franklin didn’t set well with coach Rhoades and the returning Yoemen. it will be a fun and intriguing 2023 season.
  5. A discrepancy I see is where you (09) have Yoakum at 17 and Woodville at 20. The magazine has neither one ranked but they mention Yoakum as one of their “sleepers” for 3a d1. Woodville is usually hanging around the top of their district at the end. As always 09 your polls are solid.
  6. I bet TCU and Sonny Dykes are on one cover.
  7. Grice hasn’t enrolled at Yoe as of today.
  8. I haven’t heard anything on Tim Grice. He would make a nice addition.
  9. Yoe will have their QB and RB returning. That’s always helpful on offense. They will be solid at the skilled positions. Yoe’s issues is if they can come up with solid kids on the O-line and the D-line. They need to stay healthy. Injuries really hit them hard at the end last year. Just like last season Yoe will most likely be competing for that 2nd seed in district behind Franklin but stranger things could happen.
  10. Jackson is returning on both sides of the ball. He’s a man amongst boys. Jackson also has a younger brother that should help. I understand they have a move in QB from Rockdale. He’s a pretty good athlete. Lionpride will chime in. My bet is the Lion’s will be a heavy favorite to 3 peat.
  11. Anytime you bring back two D1 running backs (Washington & Jackson) I believe Franklin had a core base returning.
  12. The results show just how tough this region is. You have to bring it every week to advance. Congrats to West.
  13. Congrats to Troy, Little River Academy, Cameron Yoe and Lorena for their bi districts victories over District 20. Great win for #4 in district 19 Lorena over favorite Franklin. Cameron Yoe’s walk off win over Fairfield in game 3. 1-0
  14. We all are praying that the prognosis is not what he is expecting. Coach Koetting and his family desire better. We all need to enjoy today. Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Wishing you the best Coach.
  15. Westphalia ISD is K through 8th grade only. They play 6 man football with their 6th-8th grade boys. Usually a 6 or 8 game schedule. The district does not recognize his position as an AD. Athletics just falls under his assigned duties as an administrator. His main assignment at Westphalia was the principal position.
  16. Former HC/AD at Cameron Yoe Tommy Brashear was hired for the same position at Troy. Brashear and the Trojans will face the Yoemen in a 11-3a district matchup. The Trojans will also face the State Champion Franklin Lions. One of the toughest districts in 3a. Brashear has been out of coaching for the last 2 years.
  17. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say. The 2023 3a d1 state champion will come out of district 11.
  18. Tommy Psencik File Head Coach Hallettsville: 13 seasons, 118-45 record, 11 playoff appearances Yoakum 1 season, 5-6 record, 1 playoff appearance Overall: 123-51 record, 12 playoff appearances, 1 state final berth Assistant Coach Texas State (graduate assistant), Laredo Martin, East Bernard, Yoakum, Victoria Memorial, Hallettsville Wishing him the best. Always had his teams prepared. The Brahamas and the Yoemen had some epic battles in the playoffs.
  19. As long as Franklin has the “Presidents” Washington & Jackson running the ball. Give me the Lions.
  20. My guess is that Franklin has the 2 best running back tandem in 3a. The presidents. The sophomore (Jackson #1) is on his way being the best back if not already. Jackson will be a recruited D1 running back. The senior (Washington#15) who is headed to Baylor, recruited to play defense could easily be a running back at the next level. Offensively and defensively Franklin is a very physical bunch. You better be ready to play 4 full quarters.
  21. Columbus was just too physical for a depleted Yoe team. Injuries and illnesses caught up with the Yoemen. Congrats to the Yoemen on a season that many didn’t think they would finish no better then 4th. in district. This Yoe fan will be there rooting for the Lions next week. Go and finish your journey to Arlington.
  22. The LRA/Hitchcock game is the interesting one in my opinion. LRA is suppose to be getting their running back, that was hurt earlier in the season back. If LRA is healthy they’ll give Hitchcock all they’ll want. Biles will have Lorena well prepared for Columbus coming off of a bi-week. Franklin will handle Halletsville with that duo of D1 backs. Yoe/Yoakum part 2 maybe a more competitive game. The first meeting was a pretty dominating performance by the Yoemen.
  23. Solid poll as usual 09. Not sure about the strength of schedule from any region 4 team. I’m a little skeptical of the Edna ranking. The Yoakum win over Halletsville was somewhat a surprise. Playoff time can always bring some head scratchers.
