  1. Mavchamp I also heard the name out of Houston! 6a HC with a lot of success. Exciting times is right! Different style of play, but good system
  2. I’d think it’s easy to be active when you have no family to go home to. His family still lives in San Antonio. That has been a knock on this whole coaching staff, starting at the top with Mathis. Mathis, Poth, LB coach/asst Ad, OL Coach all came in with Mathis. None of them brought their families to Marshall. It’s been two years... what does that tell the community?
  3. His family still lives in San Antonio. It’s been two years..
  4. Like I said before, the D was outstanding most games this year. But as a Mav follower I don’t quite understand your logic. Carthage and Huntsville played a combined 39 games this year in which they were combined 36-3. In 39 games their opponents scored more than 30 points only 5 times... 2 of those were Marshall’s Offense. You saw the two best teams (outside Longview) the Mavs played this year... and they scored 30+ points on both.... and the D gave up 30+ in both... just saying. Not sure +30 is “impressive”. Now, those were two great teams... but not sure your example is a positive for one coordinator over the other. Anyone else tired of speculation? Maybe it’s just because we’ve been through this 2 times in recent memory.
  5. More experience doesn’t always mean better. The OC I bet has more playoff wins in his shorter tenure as a coach, than most, besides Mathis, on that staff, 25+playoff wins in maybe 7 seasons as a coach. The DC has been around the game longer, naturally by age, he has seen more situations/had more experiences... but the OC has been at a place that schools across the country try to mimick and has those ingredients. The DC and OC both have college experience. The DC has broken school defensive records since being there which is a huge thing to do. I agree both are quality hires. And honestly, from what I’ve heard, they both seem to have each other’s back on staying tight and being at Marshall if one of the two get it to do what’s best for the kids. At least that’s what they’re saying. Tough situation.
  6. I hate this for Marshall. Mathis did some very good things and by the looks of it kids bought into what he was selling. I think its smart to keep this job in house. Keep as much continuity as possible. From what I can tell both coordinators seem to be respected and liked. My Thoughts on Coordinators: The OC is young and has had the success at the highest level playing for multiple state championships (Lake Travis, and look at the coaches that place has produced). Sometimes youth is exactly what a program needs. He is a very smart guy the few times I have spoken to him. High energy! In terms of him ill say this. Age is just a number. Lincoln Riley, Sean McVay, Dabo Swinney was only a WR coach before his gig. He is SHARP and has a BIG vision. The DC has been doing this for a long time and has had some good success where he has been, and has had good success with the Marshall boys. He has coordinated a college defense at the D2 level and has had some success at that. He has made everywhere he has been better from the places I know he has been. He is seasoned, seen alot of things, programs, and has great experience. He is a very good individual and has high standards. Im good with either, i think the players would be good with either. They both love kids, and want best for Marshall. I just hope MISD doesn't stop what they have going right now. Time will tell. Dr. Gibson was quoted saying 12-15 days.
  7. Everything I have heard is through all this mess, rumors, allegations, etc, etc, the Marshall players and coaching staff have not missed a beat in their non football season program. This could be proof that Marshall is on the up and up if a HUGE distraction like this hasn't seem to shake the program.
  8. I wouldn't disagree with this statement. I think itd be hard for anyone to turn down their home/program if they could go back to a program they built.
  9. I take back my apology and crow eating towards “Intensification”.
  10. Is there a new bond being passed?
  11. Facilities, facilities, facilities. East Texas teams that have success have Championship level facilities. Look at Carthage for example. If Marshall ever wanted to max their potential then they would need to build facilities to attract those around them. East Texas open enrollment hurts schools like Marshall.
  12. You may very well be right, but if the hire comes from that list posted, other than Mathis, the Superintendent and board may get ran out of town. It will have to be an "unlisted" canidate
  13. Do tell. Or let me guess, you too have an inside scoop that you cant share?
  14. Im curious as to how you think this will happen? There are programs all around Marshall that have "built" it, and thats why they are always successful. Carthage, Longview, Waskom, Gilmer....SO how do you build it in your mind, and build it in a way that will attract those kids to come to Marshall.
  15. According to Michael Florek of the Dallas Morning News: Desoto Applicants: William Goodloe- Defensive Ends Coach in Northside ISD, San Antonio. Marcus Herford- OC for Milan Seamen (American League in Italy). Previously the HC of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes. 32 Years old. Desoto Native. Loren Johnson- HC of Highland Springs HS, Virginia since 2011. Total Record of 77-11 Vincent Luvara- DC of Washington & Jefferson University, Washington, PA. NCAA Div3. DC record of 20-4. Marcus McFarland- Special Teams Coordinator/RB Coach at Dallas Justin Kimball HS Jewel Smith- Member of Football Staff at Lusher Charter School, New Orleans, LA Brandon Harrison- Current Desoto Varsity Wide Receivers Coach. Ex NFL football player for San Diego Chargers (1996) Donald Miller- Current Desoto Head Track Coach and Defensive Line Coach. Claude Mathis- Former Desoto HC. Record of 74-18. Current Marshall HC. Record 6-5 Kendrick Brown**- HC at Little Elm. 4 year record of 14-27. Mathis' DC at Desoto **This name has been thrown into the rumor mill.
  16. Regardless of ALL the problems, Desoto will be a State Championship contender year in and year out because of their talent base... to say they aren't a top tier job is foolish. I dont care if the school board explodes.... There is not a coach in the state of Texas that would turn down Desoto if they called them. PERIOD! There were only 9 applicants because the job wasn't posted publicly, but internally. Not many people knew where the job was even posted, unless told....and only certain people were told from what I gather. And Meadows wasn't near the coach Mathis was. Lets be honest.
  17. If Mathis leaves it’ll be for a top job in the state. Marshall hired him because he was at a top job in the state, and also at the collegiate level. He would not be going back to an average program or a lateral move. Marshall can be upset that he is leaving and the situation, but they can’t be mad at a coach who leaves for an opportunity that is on a different level. I think if this same scenario was happening, but it was for a Wylie East job, Red Oak, or any other job that has been filled this off season than it would be different. But it is to go back to the program that he built and made a national power. If if he stays I don’t think Marshall will give him too hard a time. It seems that he has that off season program rolling. The numbers are up, and the players love the current staff. Time will tell.
  18. Regardless if he stays or goes, i think you are right. If he leaves, he can leave knowing he made the program better. The reason Marshall will have a hard time with him leaving is because they know the impact he is making with the program. He would be leaving it better than he found it. I believe marshall folk would agree with that.
  19. This is where we agree to disagree. You don't just kick out your State Champ football coach for no reason.
  20. First of all, I would like to apologize, and eat crow, when it comes to bashing "Intesification"... if this thing unfolds with Mathis leaving then he clearly was right from the get go. Im not sure about ALL of his antics, but he was spot on with Mathis potentially leaving. So I apologize for doubting. As for the rest of this mess. I would think in the coaching profession that for a coach to turn down a top level job in the state he would be foolish (Examples: Allen, Katy, Desoto, Trinity, Lake Travis, Judson, Westlake, The Woodlands, etc) There are about 10 6a jobs you don't say no to. I dont care who the coach is, you don't turn them down. This is the situation Marshall could be in. Id think they knew from the start that if Mathis was there for 2-3 years it was a win for them. Surely they didnt see him being a decade long coach, or a lifer. Thatd be foolish knowing him and his coaching career path. I think its hard for a coach to be in limbo and save face with the community. Alot of coaches don't go through that, but for these high profile jobs that can be different when information gets out to the public. I think he has been upfront... to some degree. He told Marshall he was a Mav. He then told Marshall that Desoto had contacted him. From that point, i don't think you can cling to his first statement. At this point it is up in the air. The question is where does Marshall go if he does leave. At the same time, if he does stay, Marshall can be a hostile place once trust is burned. The town of Marshall cannot be entitled to keeping a high caliber coach forever, or thinking they will. Marshall is not a state power house (not yet at least), and living in the 90s success isn't valid. All the coaches who have come through Marshall have left, clearly knowing the talent they had. I think the bigger question is why have they left? If the talent is so surreal in Marshall then why are these coaches leaving? I something going on internally to cause this? Has the Marshall job just become a "stepping stone" job for coaches to get to thier next job? We will know id think by mid March if not sooner.
  21. 5a Willis gets a homerun hire in Lake Travis OC Mike Wall
  22. From my understanding, when Fedora left so did alot of the talent pool. There is still talent, but not 2012-2013 talent like there use to be.
  23. Wylie East hires HC Mike Dormady from Boerne High School outside of San Antonio. Dormady was previously the OC at Coppell before taking his first HC job in Boerne. Turned Boerne around.
  24. You think they promote from within? If not, this will draw some BIG names, including some up and comers.
  25. Sounds like the woodlands high schools DC took a HC job. That means their HC and Asst HC left.
