  3. Alto and Carlisle go way back. And although we really haven’t played all that many times when you look at the historical data, all that matters to me is October 16, 2015. That was my daughter’s 17th birthday and the day her lifelong childhood friend, Cam’ron Mathews, died on the field we all love so much during a game we love so much with our BROTHERS from Carlisle. I will never forget that night and the impact it had on our community and the outpouring of love from schools across East Texas and really from all around the country. But Carlisle....Carlisle was there for us. When I went to the hospital to see my very dear friend, Cam’ron’s mom, Carlisle was there. Their boys came to the hospital and were there for the family and our football family. They were at the funeral and offered their sympathy and support. That meant a lot to the Mathews family, our coaches, and our community. Still does. The game was called that night with Alto up 21-7 and Coach Baker and company agreed to give Alto the win. They didn’t have to do that, but they did as a sign of respect for the family and our community. I have never forgotten that either. This year is the first year Alto and Carlisle have not been in the same district since that night. And it’s actually the first time we are playing Carlisle on a different week as the schedule has always worked out that we play on that same week that Cam’ron passed. For me, there will never be an Alto-Carlisle game without remembering Cam’ron and that night when everything stopped. When folks just fell to their knees in prayer as the helicopter landed in the middle of the field and the unthinkable happened. So, when a “brother” from Carlisle mentions the bond our schools share, it always causes me to pause and remember a fine young man who everyone loved and a band of brothers who lifted up a hurting school and community. I’ll never forget it. Thanks Indians.
  4. I believe Carlisle will have it live streamed using the NFHS Network. There is a fee to use this service but hopefully it will be up and running for our fans to watch. As I understand it, you can purchase the game without paying for an entire season. Check out this link (not sure why they have Carlisle listed in Henderson!) https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/carlisle-high-school-price-tx
  5. Thanks, Jett. All the best to y’all too. Glad to have Winona back on the schedule. Do you remember the night we last played y’all in Winona? It was a monsoon! We had the lighting delay and the game didn’t start until really late. The band marched in their combat boots at halftime in the mud and it was a really long night but we got the game in! I remember getting home wayyyy late! Good times. Lol
  6. So true! As the kids say....haters gonna hate. Lol

  8. Could be the Mud Bowl 2020! We’ll see how it holds up....but I see it getting sloppy if it rains like they forecast.

  11. Timpson JV 18 - Alto JV 12 Very brief recap: Timpson scored first, the Jackets then made the next 2 scores to go up 12-6. Alto was driving and had the opportunity to go up by 2 scores but fumbled the snap. Timpson scores on a 55 yard run on the next play to tie. Timpson holds the Jackets and scores again to go up 18-12 with around 21 seconds left. The Jackets drive down the field in 3 plays to the Timpson 3 yard line when time expires. Dang good first game for the Alto squad. Saw some positives and much to build on. I like that they played hard until the end and put themselves in the position to at least tie the game. Proud of this group and looking forward to seeing them improve each week.
  12. I was thinking further back....like late 80s/early 90s; maybe 1991? Seems like all 4 teams were state ranked and Grapeland and Elkhart advanced to the playoffs. They played in district and then met again in the quarterfinals that year. Grapeland won and advanced to the semifinals. The loss you are talking about to Elkhart was our home opener in 2013, first game of the season.

  14. Nah, wish we had about 3 or so from our district in the Top 10. I can remember a time when Alto, Elkhart, Grapeland, and Groveton were all there at once...same district and only 2 advanced to the playoffs. Lol

  16. Prep Football Preview: By Jay Neal [email protected] Alto Yellowjackets (0-1) vs. Timpson Bears (1-0) 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cam'Ron Matthew Field @ Jacket Stadium: Home of The Mean Sting Last Week — Troup 27, Alto 0; Timpson 68, Frankston 24 Next Week — Alto at Carlisle; Timpson vs. Mount Enterprise Game Analysis — The scores of last week's games probably opened a few eyes, as Alto was shutout at home by a young Troup outfit, and the Bears scored nearly 70 points in beating Frankston. … Look for a better Alto team to take the field this week in front of a homecoming crowd. … Mean Sting defense will have to rise to the challenge, as the Bear offense proved what it can do last week. ... The Jackets are on the road for the next three weeks, so a win this week would be particularly beneficial. https://www.jacksonvilleprogress.com/sports/prep-football-previews-rusk-looks-to-2-0-but-crockett-stands-in-the-way/article_6dbfc04c-ebc5-11ea-bd0d-bf02501406ca.html
