  1. Yes sir, got some work to do. But that’s one thing I know about our kids and coaches: they work and they work hard. The growing pains were gonna be there regardless but we really would have benefitted so much from another scrimmage. It is what it is. Our young ‘uns will work hard and I know we’ll see improvement each week.
  2. The Alto Yellowjackets (11-2A D1) will host the Timpson Bears (10-2A D1) for homecoming this Friday. The Jackets opened the season with a tough loss to Troup 27-0 while the Bears defeated Frankston 68-24. The Jackets lead the series 30-15-1 and defeated Timpson 45-0 last year while the Alto JV won 18-0. Timpson defeated Alto in 2004 by a score of 14-7. The Bears (bi-district finalists from a year ago) return 17 lettermen with 6 offensive and 7 defensive starters. The young Jackets are trying to find their groove with almost all new personnel in most positions. Who wins?

  4. Troup and QB Padia pound Alto 27-0 By Jay Neal [email protected] 8 hrs ago ALTO — Trevor Padia made his varsity debut at quarterback for Troup on Friday night and he proved that he is up for the challenge by guiding the Tigers to a 27-0 shutout victory over Alto. The contest was played on a muggy night at Cam'Ron Matthews Field at Yellowjacket Stadium, and was the season opener for both teams. Padia, a junior, accounted for 290 of Troup's 350 total yards. He went 8-13-1 for 199 yards through the air, and hurled two touchdown passes and rushed for 91 yards on 14 carries and added a rushing touchdown to his night's work. The Tiger defense pitched the shutout by controlling the line of scrimmage and holding the Yellowjackets to 70 yards rushing in 29 carries for the game. Chris Calley had a fumble recovery for the Tigers, who host Carlisle (0-1) next Friday night, and KD Thomas, Brayden Vess and Charles Boyd came up with interceptions. Troup scored its first touchdown at the 2:32 mark of the first quarter when Padia connected with Bracey Cover for a 46-yard touchdown. Following a successful PAT by Grant Baber, the Tigers led 7-0. Padia zig-zagged through the Alto defense to score from 12 yards out with 7:59 left in the first half to double the Tigers' lead after Baber drilled the PAT. Troup went on to take the 14-0 lead into the dressing room at the break. The Tigers sealed the deal on the second play from scrimmage in the final half when Padia dialed up Cover for a 54-yard touchdown with 11:15 to play in the third stanza. The PAT was no good; hence a 20-0 lead for the Tigers. On the Yellowjackets ensuing possession, Alto managed to drive all the way down to the Tiger 17-yard line before Thomas picked off Alto quarterback Will Dixon, ending the Mean Sting march. The final score of the game came with 5:36 to go. That's when Padia capped off a 5 play, 33-yard drive by jetting in from 6 yards out on a quarterback draw. Baber's kick was on the money, giving the Tigers a 27-0 lead at that point. Vi'Darious led Alto in rushing by carrying 12 times for 39 yards. Jay Pope had 5 catches for 80 yards and had one carry for 22 yards. Jesus Tellez and Jer'Darius Bolton recovered fumbles for the home team. With just four starters back from a year ago, Alto will take the experience gained in the Troup game and look for a different result next Friday when the Yellowjackets do battle with Timpson (1-0), who scored 68 points in a win over Frankston on Friday. Alto will be celebrating Homecoming 2020 next week as well. https://www.jacksonvilleprogress.com/sports/troup-and-qb-padia-pound-alto-27-0/article_ec73188e-e9b9-11ea-b025-3fbff318c989.html

  7. Awesome! Thanks for posting! I enjoy polls. Don’t always agree, but still fun to read!
  8. Getting close to GAME TIME! Thankful to be able to kick-off the season tonight, even if it is at 50% in the stands and no tunnel, victory line, smoke, etc....the extra stuff that I love. I keep reminding myself I’m just thankful we get to have our season. Glad I don’t have a senior this year! GO JACKETS!

  10. That’s great! Where are y’all playing?
  11. I know all about those freak injuries. And YES, that sucked for him last year. Glad he's 100% now and if the scrimmage is any indication, he'll be just fine. Prayers that all of our guys stay healthy!
  12. Prep Football Preview: Troup to test Jackets in Alto By Jay Neal [email protected] Aug 25, 2020 TROUP TIGERS (0-0) at ALTO YELLOWJACKETS (0-0) 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cam'ron Matthews Field at Yellowjacket Stadium Last Week: This is the season opener for both clubs. Next Week: Carlisle at Troup; Timpson at Alto Game Analysis: Troup is 15-14-4 against the Mean Sting in the all-time series. The two clubs last faced each other in 2015 with Alto cruising to a 30-7 win. Alto has won four of the last five games versus the Maroons dating back to 2001... In the last five games these two have played against each other, the winning team has won by an average of 28 points … Troup has nine starters back, with six of those defenders. Alto lost a ton to graduation and bring backs only four starters, but despite that fact head coach Ricky Meeks' guys are ranked No. 14 in Texas Football's preseason Class 2A-I poll … Cam'ron Matthews Field is a natural grass playing surface and if the area receives a lot of rain from the left overs of Hurricane Laura, look for the off track to favor an already stout Alto running game … Alto's speed and athleticism should be of concern for the Tigers … Alto has the edge in this game, but anything can happen. In 2017, Alto lost at home to Winona, 35-34 and the following year Troup shocked Tenaha, 42-39 on opening night. https://www.jacksonvilleprogress.com/sports/prep-football-previews-troup-to-test-jackets-in-alto/article_510384b6-e63e-11ea-80ce-e399ae1bbcaf.html
  13. Yes sir. The Jackets will be live streamed this season on the Alto ISD Facebook page with Lee Pearman, JD Pearman, and Trey Todd providing the play-by-play and commentary: https://www.facebook.com/AltoYellowjackets Because we are live streaming we will not be broadcasting on the radio this year. Did a test run at the scrimmage and it worked well! There were a few audio glitches, but I believe those have been resolved.
  14. And because I like ya and Alto and Carlisle go way back:

  17. Even with lots of new faces, Alto will still pack a ‘Mean Sting’ by: Mike Alzamora Posted: Aug 24, 2020 / 11:13 PM CDT / Updated: Aug 24, 2020 / 11:14 PM CDT ALTO, Texas (KETK) – With the high school football regular season kicking off this week, one of our premiere smaller school programs, the Alto Yellowjackets, are once again expected to take the top spot in their district. But the ‘Mean Sting’ will be missing some of their top senior leaders from last season, including quarterback/linebacker, Harmon West, as well as one of their top tacklers in Todd Duplichain. The Jackets only have two starters returning for both sides of the ball, but both Jay Pope and Jackson Howell, look to make major impacts early in the season. Third-year head coach Ricky Joe Meeks says no matter what level of experience they bring to the field, the Jackets always know what’s expected on the gridiron in Alto. “You know the good thing is, the majority of our kids are Alto kids. We don’t have a ton that are outsiders so to say. So they understand the tradition, they understand the expectations and quite honestly I don’t think any of them would want it any other way which is good. And so it’s going to be exciting, it’s going to be fun to watch them develop and mold into those expectations,” Meeks explained. Alto will be tested early, when they host the Troup Tigers Friday night to open the season at 7:30 p.m. Watch the video to see the story. https://www.easttexasmatters.com/sports/even-with-lots-of-new-faces-alto-will-still-pack-a-mean-sting/
