  1. Point well taken. I believe we have a great coach and felt I needed to share my opinion just as you have shared yours.
  2. Your response here proves only one thing.... your math is better than mine !
  3. 11-4 is the record in the playoffs in those five years. 2014 (8-2) 3-1 in the playoffs; 2016 (9-1) 2-1 playoffs 2017 (8-2) 3-1 playoffs (2018) (6-4) 3-1 playoffs 2019 (6-4) 0-1 playoffs. Add the playoffs records with your math and see what you get.
  4. I am going to have to disagree with your last two statements. (1) Henderson has an excellent coach, who each season has guided his team to improve as the season continued (2) the team has competed consistently with the other elite programs in the area. In the past 5 of 6 years the Lions have been in the playoffs and have made it 4 rounds deep 3 different seasons, 1 season to the 3rd round(losing to Carthage 34-33 in the third round), and losing last year to Midlothian Heritage in the first round in the last seconds of the game. Heritage went 4 rounds deep losing to eventual State Champion Carthage. Henderson's and Coach Castles playoff record in those 5 seasons is 11-4 which I think would qualify for elite status. The past 10 years the Henderson Program has a playoff record of 22 wins and 6 losses which certainly would prove it as an elite program. Name another 4A team in the area, outside of Carthage, that has that same type of record over the past 10 years.
  5. You have beat that horse to death on your last 5 posts..... the problem is not so much about the QB looking only at one receiver. The problem is the QB does not have time to locate any secondary receiver because of the offensive line play. They can't hold a block longer than 2 seconds. The thing about Henderson over the past 5-6 years is that they improved each game throughout the season. That is credit to a good coaching staff that continues to teach/coach and make players better each week. I just don't see that with the offensive line this year(or last year too). It doesn't appear to me they have improved since Game 1. You can say what you want concerning the QB but put anyone else back there and the problem still exists.
  6. I agree we had been very predictable the last two seasons and had to depend on defense to carry us at times. Langley always found ways to score or get the big first down when needed. Combs just needed some more game experience and seemed to have trouble against good defensive teams in the big games. Missing the two past games this season will really hurt the Lions who have 10 new starters on offense. Coach Milner is a good coach and has a great relationship with the players but he has some real challenges ahead. There are some good skill players and a talented QB while the offensive line is still a work in progress.
  7. I would disagree with the offensive adaptation ..... he lost his offensive OC, Matt Langley, 3 years ago. Matt Combs, the QB Coach during those years took over as OC for Langley who learned a lot from Langley but his two years were challenging, especially in big moments in big games Then Combs decided to get out of coaching during late May or early June; with the uncertainty of the 2020 season and a short time to find a suitable replacement Castles promoted Wide Receivers coach Ed Milner(5 years on staff) to the OC position this summer. The offense has struggled the last couple of seasons and misses a great coordinator that Langley was, who now is the AD/HC at Caldwell HS, after spending 2 seasons as OC at San Antonio Brandeis HS. Brandeis went 4 rounds deep in 6A in 2018.
  8. They are giving up 41 points a game..... opponents have scored 163 points in 4 games. What's your definition of bad ?
  9. I don't post a lot but I am just not seeing what you are talking about with "all these players from Henderson" transferring to other schools. The only ones I see mentioned in this thread are two players that transferred to Carthage 2 years ago when their mom's got jobs in Carthage ISD. You seem to know a lot about all these "multiple kids" that have gone to other schools but you give no facts about who they are. You are right in saying someone much closer to Henderson knows the rest of the story. What "appears" to you just may be far from the truth and there are a ton of people in Henderson that believe we have a great Head Coach in Phil Castles which involves more than football. Most people I know close to the program have a great respect for Coach Castles. And there are always a few people in any program who are not happy or give a negative view of a coach. There were a quite a few people that didn't think a lot of Jesus either but HE turned out alright. Certainly not saying Castles is even close to being like Jesus but I do know he is a man that is great for kids and is a great football coach. You have an outsider opinion which is your privilege on a social media site. Just sharing a different opinion.
  10. Looks to be a very competitive game as Kaufman has put up quite a few points in their two contests while Henderson's defense has been the bright side for their two games. If Henderson offense improves from the first two contest I would go with them; however their offense is very young and the offensive line has not seemed to jell just yet. It will a good reunion of sorts as Kaufman Head Coach Jeremy Burleson and OC Craig Barker were on the Lions coaching staff during the Lions 2010 State Championship team. Kaufman Asst. Coach Justin Horton was a former player for Henderson as well. It will be good seeing those guys again.... bunch of class coaches and classy people as well.
  11. The biggest surprise and will be the toughest in 4A Div. 1 is Calallen dropping from 5A.
  12. Depends upon what kind of cookie it is....
  13. I’m going with Henderson but only if their secondary plays well. The difference will be if the Lions can get pressure on Moffatt. Henderson’s secondary has struggled all year long and will need some big plays from them to win. Van always plays solid defense and if they stop the Lions running game they will win. However, as even as these two teams are I’m going with Lions 31-28.
  14. Not really, stole that one from Casting Crowns & songwriter Matthew West !
  15. I’m a nobody trying to tell everybody about somebody !!!
  16. Hmmm.... seems like great logic and good advice to me. Sit this one out for a bit Htown69 !
  17. ..... and nobody laughed ! LOL !!!
  18. That really doesn’t make any sense ..., how would you convert FG into TD’s when you wouldn’t have the ball .... as the FG’s were a result of a Henderson fumble; if the fumble was eliminated, as described, Henderson would have continued on their drive. That doesn’t guarantee a Henderson score or a Carthage stop or a Carthage score. Fact remains the best team won in THIS game .... “what if’s” are always great to look back at but rarely change the outcome !
  19. Your point here is well taken and the new OC in his 3rd season is still learning/growing .... filling the shoes of Coach Langley was a tall order for any coach to replace, he could find ways to score on anyone, was aggressive with a unique approach but sound with a purpose. He was a “big game” coach who always had a plan B in his back pocket and was unnerved by better competition. It was my opinion that a change in the entire coaching staff was a bit too strong knowing the current team/Staff relationship.
  20. Why would we need all new coaching staff when we have been 4 rounds deep in 3 out of 4 years ? Coaches that prepare each week to the minutest detail. Coaches that go beyond what it is expected to develop meaningful relationships with their players. These coaches teach boys to become young men and use football & athletics to teach life lessons. Why would these young men need a change in this type of positive environment that will help lead them to be great men, leaders, great fathers, great husbands, and great football players ?
  21. Not sure what you are basing your info on other than the game vs. Carthage. No doubt he has had ball control issues (fumbled 5 times vs. Carthage) but Hendo allowing him to be a one man show ? RB Kevin Fields (110 yds vs. Carthage)has been more the focus of the offense for most, if not all, of the season. Medford missed 3 quarters of the final non-district game against Rusk, did not play vs. Palestine, and played sparingly in the first half(at WR) vs. Kilgore but all of the 2nd half at QB. Granted he had(has) some ball control issues but his focus is not a 1-man show type of kid. He plays hard and his effort is for his team..... but a one man show is certainly not a part of the Henderson coaching staff game plan. Additionally, the Lions may be done soon enough could be true for anyone in the playoffs .... sometimes the best team does not always win. As far as Van you are on target; they are a very good football team and that game will probably will be just like the last two they played in 2018. Both teams won 21-20 .... Van in game 10 and the Lions in the game 13. Either way those two teams will represent 10-4A well and both will welcome another shot at the mighty Dogs !
  22. Mike Baughman, who is a history buff of Henderson Lions football, has a streak of 462 straight games of attendance. He is also the voice of the Lions on the Henderson radio station and has been in that capacity since 1981. The last game that he missed was the final game of the 1977 season. If that is not the best in East Texas it certainly should be in the top 3 !
  23. Billy Sims would be my pick. He had 38 straight 100 yard games for his 3 years as a varsity player. As a senior he rushed for 381 yards in the Quarter-Finals against Rockwall while also returning a punt 72 yds. for a TD ..... also scored 6 TD's. Posted 212 rushing yards in State Final against Friendswood in a great losing effort. If not the best, he would definitely be in top 3 !
  24. People quit reading your posts months, months, and months ago ..... and it wasn't because of your grammar.
