  1. Wow, that's a tall order what with the likes of Jimmie Walker, Willie Latham, Anthony Byerly and Darwin Barlow. That's hard company brother. I hope he's right.
  2. I don't know much about either team, but what I have observed over the last three years, one better not underestimate Van. I've noticed on many occasions where they will fall behind early but come roaring back in the fourth quarter to either win, or make it close. Those kids must be well coached. They just never seem to give up. I'd bet that it's gonna be a good game, would love to be there, cause Gilmer ain't no slouch either. Having said all that I believe Gilmer will pull it out. They've just been too good too long. And, I ain't feeling too good about the upcoming game with the Eagles. However, I'm sticking with the Eagles to win their game.
  3. I hear ya. I live just an hour and a half from there, and would definitely be in the stands. That would be cool, cause I lived in Crockett for nine years and have a good feeling about the town. I hope Crockett starts to make a statement.
  4. I voted Crockett Bull Dogs. I'm going out on a limb here. I believe Crockett has the team to do it this year. Just a hunch
  5. According to the play by play commentator the kid has unbelievable cut backs. He said at one point, he thought his knee was down , he cut so sharp and low, but made the cut, and ran for 22 yards. I was also surprised to hear Sylvester lined up at tight end, and made a catch. First time I ever heard him playing offense I think Newton can probably beat Silsbee, but I'm afraid they will lose the next two. Gilmer and WOS are gonna be tough. Lack of depth will hurt the Eagles this year I'm afraid. I hope I live to eat my words. Somebody said iron man football for them this year, and that is true.
  6. Eagles97: That is great news. Didn't Caiden Walker go to TJC also? If so, I'm looking forward to watching them play TVCC this year. I believe they are on their schedule. 5th down, I'm a Hugh eagles fan. I just don't live there anymore. Moved away in 1986.
  7. Eagles97, what can you tell us about T browns younger brother. Is he too young, or what. Also what's the deal with Hunter Amburn. He is not on Newtons roster this year. That kid had promise. thanks
  8. Moe , how sure of that are you, I've heard from a couple sources he went to another school around Beaumont, then back to Newton, and he is there now. Also, he is on the Newton football roster. Word is, he was added July 30,2019
  9. Anybody got any news on the recent move back of D Gatson to Newton. Sounds very encouraging to us Eagle fans.
  10. I had to chuckle the first time I heard the libs rave on about the OK sign. For years now I have heard and read people from the left and right use the term, "the jig is up", and no one said anything. Back when I was a kid that punch line was part of a very racist joke. I guess that's what happens when you try to erase history instead of learning from it.
  11. It never had any luster for me. However the mic-up of the players was a good twist, also intertaining. I feel the same way about the pro bowl, or any all star game. Since there is no urgancy to it, or real competition to it, it's not fun. Bring on the NFL season. I'm exicited about the Cowboys this year. Can't wait.
  12. I was able to capture both State championship games on DVD, and will re-visit those regularly. Both were great games, and I'll enjoy that. But most of all I will be able to re-visit the heart warming interviews of a great coach, and fine example for young football players everywhere. His "I am so blessed" statement perfectly describes the measure of the man in view of his health problems. Rest In Peace Coach Johnston, and Got speed to you and your family.
  13. This from the breitbart article: Though it is unrelated, the NFL Network is in a carriage fight with DirecTV Now and AT&T U-verse, which pulled the channel off their air. Just in case you'all are not aware what "carriage" fees are. Let me explain; it'll make your head explode. I'll use the most gross example, for effect. let's say you have a satellite package that you want to include some sports programming. Well sir, you must take the higher priced package that includes the likes of CNN, MSNBC CNBC well you get the picture. Now you may not like those liberal puke networks, but that doesn't matter. Tough being you, right about then. Now here is the kicker. CNN has access to 89 million viewers, but only 1 million watch them. However they get $12.00 a month from carriage fees from you whether you watch them or not. Each year CNN receives 1 billion dollars a year from carriage fees, and part of that money is coming from you, who hates the blasted network. I'm assuming , of course you do, cause I do. So don't be impressed when someone tells you with glee, that CNN's ratings are in the tank, because the dirty little secret is they couldn't care less, because of all the saps like us are paying their way without watching. Just so we can get our favorite sports program. Sweet deal huh! I wish I owned a politician.
  14. Here is the article I was talking about. Seems as though he wants to be with his buddies from Newton. These small town boys better hitch it up cause the frogs are getting some major talent coming in. Quarterback is going to be a dog fight. https://www.frogsowar.com/2019/5/6/18534674/triple-team-4-james-sylvester-announces-for-tcu-as-the-third-commitment-of-a-loaded-day
  15. Sorry about the mix up. SB Nation has the article, but for some reason the URL is locked, and Bleacher Report doesn't have one showing on their page. In my attempts to get it I created the topic without comment. techno peasant is at it again.
  16. Stoney: I thought you might be interested in this little tidbit on hill I also see where Lil Jordan Humphrey visited the Star. The guy is big, strong, and got good hands. I hope Dallas is interested, and can get him. Pick 136 - Trysten Hill, DT, Central Florida The Cowboys continue to fortify their defensive line by getting themselves some help on the interior. Dallas has Maliek Collins, who has been a solid starter, when healthy. Hillwas by far the most effective defensive lineman for his college program but he does have a few maturity concerns. Sometimes, Hill shows maturity issues and can be tough to coach but his skill set will be desired in the NFL. As an interior player, he has the burst to get upfield and attack the quarterback . Hill is very much a twitch-style of player that Rod Marinelli likes to have and he hustles to the ball-carrier. If the Cowboys can find a way to get him to reach his potential, Hill will turn into a great pick.
  17. Funny you should say that. I just came across a very interesting article addressing that very thought. I thought it was pretty good, maybe you will too. https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2019/4/8/18299374/the-dallas-cowboys-way-stephen-jones-three-rules-for-how-the-roster-is-built-and-maintained
  18. It may be just me, but it looks like Hunter Pence has introduced a large dose of adrenaline into this team. Choo better kick it up a notch or Pence might just beat him out of his starting job. Jon Daniels better find some starting pitching, or it's gonna be a long year.
  19. Why in heavens name would the Rangers sign a 42 yr. old left fielder instead of Willie Calhoun. The guy has no pro, or College experience what-so-ever. Geez, does anybody know anything about the guy. I haven't seen him at all this spring. Although, he does have 3 hr, and 11 RBI, somewhere.
  20. I don't know about Browm, but I'm afraid his football days are over, unless he walks on somewhere. He can play for many schools if he wants to. I'm just afraid his head is somewhere else right now.
  21. Newton Eagles signees RB Darwin Barlow signs with TCU Qb josh foster signs with TCU OL Caiden Walker signs with SFA LB Jadrian McGraw signs with Texas Southern OLB Malik Metoyer signs with Missouri Valley College Congratulations young men you have done well. You gave us a very exciting year.
  22. I have to laugh when I read or hear conversations about players like Taco, and Gregory. I told my son ten years ago, that Jerry Jones wants to be Al Davis so bad he can taste it. He wants to be coach, personnel director, general manager, and draft guru all rolled into one package. Al Davis was notorious for drafting "Bad Boys", and making ball players out of them. Let's not forget that Al Davis was a coach before he was an owner. To this day Jones has a man crush on the Raiders, and ownership. Jerry watched Jimmie Johnson turn around Charles Haley, and thinks he did it. He forgot that Jimmie was a psychology major in College. Cole Beasley let the cat out of the bag just last week about the administration dictating who gets the ball. Goodbye Cole, you'll be going the way of Jimmie Johnson very soon. I'm afraid the Cowboys are destined to be an also ran team as long as the Jones family have control. We shall see.
