  1. I will say that unless there is a MASSIVE spike THSF will continue with state champs being crowned. We'll know more probably as we approach Halloween and the first couple weeks of November.
  2. The COVID craziness that is 2020 has a lot to do with this but Huntington is going to beat Trinity, Westwood, and Elkhart. This team is going to win 5 games minimum. I changed my mind on one thing: so far Huntington has a better chance to beat Diboll than Crockett, if they're going to pull an upset on one of the two.
  3. Huntington is 2-0 and I don't think that has ever happened. They're going to beat Trinity, Westwood, and Elkhart. That's 5 wins there.
  4. Unless there are a rash of injuries or some bad report cards (or God help us COVID), this is Grapeland`s district to lose. Alto has been really disappointing and I'm not sold on Groveton yet. Everyone else in our district is so-so. But this is 2020, a year where everything may change 5 minutes from now. Who knows?
  5. Alto`s game vs. Centerville will be for the final playoff spot in district.
  6. Grapeland traded Mart for another pain in the butt: Refugio lol.
  7. They have Diboll and Crockett but also Trinity, Westwood, and Elkhart. Those last 3 I think are beatable teams for Huntington. Coldspring if I remember correctly is in the district but they are a so-so team. So they win 4 district games and it really depends on how Crockett`s season plays out.
  8. History has proven multiple times (the Saints in the NFL and the Clippers in the NBA are two examples) that once a much-maligned team finally starts tasting what winning tastes like that it might be years or decades before they lose again. Huntington I think may be one of those teams.
  9. You heard it hear first. Grapeland is #9 in 2A-Div I and although we defeated Shelbyville 32-19 it was closer than the score indicated. Then Huntington holds a better-than-average Shelbyville Dragons team to 7 points? Diboll is not as talented as in recent years, Crockett lost a lot to graduation, and to me I think 6 wins and maybe a 2nd place finish is not impossible.
  10. They've never beat Crockett but that 60-7 drubbing of Corrigan last week was misleading because CC looks atrocious this year. Crockett lost a ton to graduation and it began to show last night against Rusk. They'll make the playoffs but that district is wide open. Huntington looks really good so far.
  11. There's something about Huntington this year. Shelbyville gave Grapeland a tougher game than the score indicated and we're #9 in the state! And then Huntington turns around and holds the Dragons to a lone score?Huntington has never won more than 3 games in a season ever. I say they beat Crockett this year and win 6 games! They won't back into the playoffs this go-round.
  12. For Grapeland the `91 Sandies were down 14-0 in the Astrodome to Schulenburg in the Class 2A State Semifinals. We fought back to take a 19-14 lead late then Schulenburg retook the lead 21-19. We were almost in field goal range but time expired. There were several questionable calls that went against Grapeland in that game otherwise we would have easily defeated Albany in the Finals. The `92 team beat Coldspring in a massive upset (Coldspring had demolished Crockett the previous week) days after Coldspring`s coach passed away but we had a ton of nagging injuries in that game that plagued us the rest of the year. Waskom upset us in the Area round which was arguably Waskom`s best team until they won State a few years ago.
  13. First, thank God I'm not a male impersonator like Rachel Madcow. Secondly, I provided what was reported to me because someone in the military, at least to me, is about as credible as you can get. Yes, if Texas sees a huge spike in cases you bet it will affect fall UIL sports. Bank on it. I personally think sports need to resume as soon as possible, but public health needs to be considered too. A personal insult hurled at me was uncalled for.
  14. Huntington won't simply back into the playoffs this year. It'll take 3 wins this year and they'll be fortunate to give Westwood a good game. Crockett will be a scrappy team.
  15. The real intrigue will be for 4th between Centerville, Leon, and Normangee. I'll take Centerville there. But all of the top three: Alto, Grapeland, and Groveton will be threats to go at least 3 rounds deep in the playoffs. Very tough district. If one of these teams wins district undefeated look out!
  16. A friend of mine is high level military and told me that Texas and this part of the U.S. will reach its peak infection rate from early June to mid July. I didn't ask how that was arrived at but it sure looks like (if true) that we may have an abbreviated and delayed regular season for at least the UIL. It'll be cutting it too close for August drills, etc. Envision two scrimmages, no non-district, and just the district slate of games. Add to all the uncertainty the potential for another wave of COVID in November or December and that might throw a wrench into the state playoffs. Not being negative but trying to be as factual as I can based on the information I got.
  17. Even if it's 96-0, it's a 48 minute game. It's just as bad for the punter to take 3 giant steps backward and bow when the ball is snapped to him. Some of these players will face a lot more adversity at some point in their life than being down 12 TDs in a game, so a 76 or 96-0 defeat is a good teaching lesson for how to respond to true life adversity later in life.
  18. I had some reservations about the Sandies traveling all the way to Milano but after thrashing them 44-9 I feel pretty confident. This year has a similar feel to last year. That Crockett game is going to tell a bunch, as it will be at Sandie Stadium. If we win, or at least come very close to doing so like in 2018, then our next challenge will likely be Mart, round 3 of the playoffs, just like last season. A lot of folks find Evadale to be a sexy pick to make noise in our district but I'm not buying into that yet. And Lovelady appears to be a little down. That's the state of our district. Not like the late 80s/early 90s when we had Alto, Groveton, Elkhart, and very dangerous Leon teams to concern ourselves with.
  19. I was not at the scrimmage but I heard Grapeland "beat" Trinity 6-0. Was told that the offense is still kind of a work in progress but if possible the defense is even BETTER than last year. And here is a bold prediction: that Crockett game at Sandie Stadium might be a real offensive shootout. I can envision a 75-56 type game.
  20. That's about like asking which one of these is more fun: passing a kidney crystal or watching cockroaches mate? Is there a third option?
