  1. How about Kip Kippenbrock with his cheesy "pencil-thin" moustache handling the weather on KLTV ?? The few times my family visited Tyler when I was a young lad we would invariably happen upon the Rose Garden Drive In. My late great dad really liked that place. RJ
  2. oldowl60..... That would be STROH'S Brewing Company. They purchased Schlitz in the early '80's ....circa 1982. The local (Longview) plant went by the "wayside" around 1999-2000....when Stroh decided to "downsize" their company brewing operations. It sits there rotting away....the brewing plant...that is. There is a shipping company that uses the back portion (shipping/receiving) area of the plant. Otherwise..... No beer brewed here. There you have it....oldowl60. RJ

  4. I caught them FatCat. Having Roger Waters back was a real "turn the clock back" feel. Really a trip down memory lane. They still have..... IT !! Money, Comfortably Numb and Wish You Were Here were in the set. Good stuff ! RJ
  5. Or you could go to the real orignial. and read the book. wait teenagers dont know how to read anymore. You tell 'em Colligula ! Ending was exactly the same as the original movie AND the book by H.G. Wells. At least Spielberg didn't try to screw that up. I saw the movie as well and the only thing that impressed me was the "score" by John Williams. Of course, Williams has been doing that for MANY movie soundtracks. RJ
  6. Here...Here.... StillWatchin speaks the truth !! Luther AND Marvin Jr. set the tone for nights of pleasure during my college days. ;) Hats off to Mr. Vandross. RJ
  7. Downtown Longview is experiencing a tremendous thunderstorm at this very moment. By the looks of the radar more is moving very swiftly from north-to-south for 2/3 of the East Texas area. Let it pour down!! RJ
  8. Eizek NAILED IT !! I'll walk ANYWHERE in Longview...at anytime and have done so with no problems whatsoever. Many Tylerites would NEVER do the same within certain parts of their city limits. RJ
  9. I "might" just rankle someone's feathers but "Oldowl60" is in his 60's. The 60 in his "handle" is the year of his graduation from Garland High School....if I'm not mistaken. As for me...I fall in that "40-something" grouping as I'm a 1964 model....1/8/1964....shared birthdate with the "King of Rock-n-Roll"...to boot! RJ
  10. This past weekends "KYKX BIG BASS CLASSIC" WINNER reeled in a 8.64 lb bass to claim a New Skeeter boat and $33,000 dollars in cash. That's a $17,000 boat PLUS the cash prize making the Marshall, Tx. man a $50,000 dollar Grand Prize winner. NOT TOO SHABBY for a weekend's effort. Congrats to the Adams kid TOO !! RJ
  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES to this Websites namesake on this day....MAY 2 !! Sending out Best Wishes to Smoaky on his 46TH Birthday !! RJ
  12. I can't believe no mention of those AWFUL "Sonic" commercials. They are BEYOND DUMB!! RJ
  13. A 1965 Ford Galaxy. A white 2 door "urban assault" vehicle. It was dubbed the "White Shadow" ....for a variety of reasons....primarily for its "look", it's driver and for the show that existed at that time in history.... circa late Seventies !! I sometimes "take a walk" down memory lane thinking about that really cool ride....sigh !! RJ
  14. We've met ??? :ermm:  I'm sure there are a few more members that I have met, but don't realize it ! Yeah Brent...we've met. You were on that trip to watch the Rangers clinch the West....right ?? I remember talking with you that day..... Just a little surprised that you don't remember. RJ

  16. I'm 41 now and this "Q - A" takes me to 85. Since 3 of my 4 grandparents have reached that same age then it's not too far fetched. Alas, I'll take the outcome with a grain of salt. AND Take it one day at a time....LOL! RJ
  17. I totally agree with you Brent !! I'll echo everyone else here, too !! Spent many a weeknight in my youth sneeking into my dearly departed dad's study to share a laugh with Johnny and my dad. That is UNTIL momma would catch me up late on a school night ! LOL !! Thanks for the memories ....Mr Carson !! Godspeed !! RJ
  18. More Royisms..... "I'll be on ya' like Michael Jackson on a Boy Scout" ! "I'll be on ya' like Patton for a dance " ! Here's a couple of more animal names... How about the pet terrier?? Regis OR The pet rooster ?? Bobby Fischer Hilarious ! RJ
  19. Methinks he's one EVIL man ! No conscience...whatsoever ! One question....What good is the DEATH penalty in California anyway ?? There's over 650 on Death Row in that state now and they've had only 1 execution since 2001 (in 2002). What good is it there ??? He'll live to be an OLD man in the Cali penal institution anyway. That is UNLESS he's killed by some other inmate. RJ
  20. We're now just 5 (FIVE) new members away !! I'll toss out 11/29/2004....sometime MONDAY morning!! RJ
  21. We're just 39 new posters away from having SIX GRAND to the website membership !! Any takers on when Smoaky.com hits that milestone ?? RJ
  22. Billie Sol Estes was born in 1924 and the best I can tell he's still alive....via "Google" search. He's EIGHTY years old now and "boasts" that he's outlived 'em all. RJ
  23. The Alamo Draft House is owned and operated by an old fraternity brother of mine. His idea has really taken off in the other cities and should do well here in Tyler. I'll definately give it a go!! RJ
  24. How about Roy's Old lady......Sharon Jean. He always liked to include her somewhere within the story-line. RJ
  25. When his dog ate the bag of nuts, bolts, and screws.... and died....he wanted the store owner to pay for a "memorial" for the dog.... HILARIOUS ! His most famous retorts....in my opinion anyway.... "How big a boy are you ?" I'm gonna' whip your @%$# !! RJ
