  1. Good luck to all the teams. This is my opinion based on several years of watching this district closely. For the first time in decades I won't be watching this year, but I will always follow it. Garrison SA Shelbyville Timpsom Hemphill Joaquin Garrison will be tough to beat. They are returning more than anyone else and they have BY FAR the best young group coming up. They should be able to overpower everyone in the district with a good chance to play for the regional championship. SA has the talent to challenge but something has been missing there for a while. Only time will tell if they can figure it out? The talent is there! Shelbyville will struggle with any team that has a decent run game. They will put up points and inflated statistics with their version of the run and shoot offense, but will be hard pressed to beat a legit top 25 team. They also lost 7 seniors that will be hard to replace. They do have some young move ins and young players that will help, but it's hard to replace Sr's with sophomores. Timpson lost a LOT more than Terry Bussey! They will have a few playakers but too many holes to fill and the upcoming bunch is nothing like they have enjoyed for the last several years. They will challenge Shelbyville for the 3rd spot. Their match-up will be a good one. Hemphill is my wild card. Every few years they manage to be really good, but struggle with the likes of Newton and other 3a playoff teams. They might make some noise in 2a? This particular group of upper classmen, specifically the Jr class, was very TOUGH when they were young. Sorry to my Rams friends, but I think they will struggle to win many games, and I don't see it getting any better for a long time. The days of 275lb linemen and 4x100 relay teams in the backfield are over with for a while. Edit: 7.16.23. Final one! I heard some positive things from Ram country today. I have to throw them in the mix for a playoff spot. I still have Garrison 1, but 2,3, and 4 is very debatable! There should be some really good games and whoever emerges (even 4) won't be just first round patsy. Good luck to all the teams.
  2. They were stacked for 2a! Several different years they had the kids to run a killer spread offense. Whatever you call the offense it's basically the same one with 75% of the plays ran between the tackles. 15 passes year. If that.
  3. Will throw the ball 15 times a season. If that. To each his own, but Joaquin had a few teams STACKED in skills players! I'm talking STACKED! and rarely even ran outside the tackles. Much less pass! I really don't like being so critical, but I can't help but advocate for modern football. Run whatever you want, but THROW the ball at least 8 or 10 times per game.
  4. Yea, will throw maybe 10 passes all year.
  5. One thing for sure they won't need a passer or wide receivers. Which is sad to me.
  6. It's not school related. It's a social thing. SA kids go to Nac to mingle. There is a LOT of friction. Facts!
  7. All I can say is the umpire crew from the Shelbyville/Centerville match-up should be banned! I'm not a conspiracy person, but those calls were awful! A homerun that was clearly foul. I mean CMON man! And then reversing the fair ball and calling it foul and taking away 2 runs? This will be talked about a lot. It was awful. The officials or umpires should never be that involved in an outcome.
  8. I hope so. I'm REALLY good friends with a few people from SA that are closely involved with the internal workings of all things SA. Especially the school. I know a lot about the young man and I wish him well. Let's hope he stays on course and away from Nac. The SA kids have a lot of distractions with the social rivaly with the kids from Nac.
  9. The transcript will reveal over the past year or so you trolled me multiple times with Benny Smith and the Gilmer vs Bellville game. Which is fine. Old Smoaky is mostly entertainment for me. It's nothing personal.
  10. It's in national trend to re-class. I know that, but the bit about the freshman part is misleading. There are sophomores that haven't turned 16 yet, the freshman you speak of will be nearly 17 by mid football season. I wish him well. I was just adding some perspective after you kept trolling me. Kind of like the Gilmer vs Bellville game! Or when you said Benny Smith would never see the field in Carthage I'm not always right but you have trolled me several times so these are just friendly reminders letting you know that I'm not the one you want to debate with if your facts are watered down.
  11. They live in Timpson or visit? I'm confused.
  12. Stay tuned. SA will be much improved but nothing like the recent teams that played for the regional championships. And it is a fact that the freshman you speak of is 16 years and 6 months old. Not a true freshman. The kid is a good athlete for sure, but not a true freshman. He is older than 75% of the kids that will be true Jr's next year. Facts.
  13. Renfro turned 16 in November. He is a good athlete but the freshman part is a bit deceptive. In reality he is only 18 months younger than Terry Bussy. Facts.
  14. I saw Kiotti hit a baseball 400' plus when he was 12 years old! Big League Dreams in League City. He was 6' 3" and weighed 175lbs! His voice was deeper than mine and I'm grown, and he nearly broke my hand when we shook hands!
  15. Calvin Cannon has a relative in Shelbyville that will be transferring to a school in Arlington to play quarterback this year. He will be a Jr.
