  1. I'm going Timpson with a solid win. I don't think this is their best team of the Terry Bussey era, but the coaching staff seems to have finally figured out the formula! Even with missing a few of their dynamic athletes it seems they have it figured out. I also have to tip my hat to Garrison big time! They played them great both times, and I think it really helped get Timpson ready to seal the deal. Hopefully it's like the Chavis McCollister Tenaha days when they finally brought the title back to Shelby County his Sr year.
  2. Just rewatched the game and it's a miracle that it was even close! So many uncharacteristic mistakes by Carthage. And all the drops!
  3. This was the most spot on analysis in the whole thread.
  4. He is a good player and gets a lot of undue criticism, but he isn't a true sophomore. He is old enough to be a young Jr. That makes a difference.
  5. I understand how it works. I just want everybody to see what it would look like if he got 20 carries. He has to learn what he is doing first though. I understand that. They know what they have. If not he wouldn't have been in the game with the season on the line. And this is a kid that doesn't have as much experience as a lot of middle school backs that have played select ball. His upside is more than most people realize.
  6. He is still learning the basics! I know him and his family very well, and I can promise you the sky is the limit! His combination of size, strength, speed, vision, and balance is D1 right now and he is a true sophomore. Will turn 16 in January. He grew up in Nevada and played youth ball all of his life, but was a two way lineman. Didn't play running back until Jr High, and only played 5 varsity games last year. He is still very much raw, and learning the basics of the position. Wait until he gets 20 carries in a game! Whatever defense has to deal with him will be sore the next day! He can deliver a blow and has exceptional vision and balance with break away speed.
  7. 22 for Carthage is great as well. He is better than 0 between the tackles. A lot bigger and stronger. Can also run outside as well. Has great vision and balance.
  8. Actually the object is to win the game. Everybody is trying to win, but there is also plenty if stat padding going on.
  9. Kid has been a beast since youth ball. He was so fast in the highlight reels he would be so far ahead he was the only kid on the screen
  10. Garrison runs their power formation to keep things balanced, but they are really good out of the spread. Or their version of the spread.
  11. Its a very favorable offense to rack up passing statistics. It's common these days. Especially when coaches kids are involved.
  12. Shelbyville has defied the odds all year. They will be at a big size disadvantage in this one. I think they keep it close until the 4th.
  13. Garrison will dominate! Beckville is nowhere near as good as their ranking! It will be a worse beatdown than Timpson gave them. Garrison is WAY too big and physical, and Beckville will get out coached in a major way. Sorry to be critical of Beckville, but they have been way overrated for a few years now.
  14. No doubt! Maybe that 165lb DE is on the 7th grade B team Carthage may not have the most talent year in and year out, but I bet overall they have the most size. It's really the big guys that win the games. I know Center is usually as talented or more so at the skills positions, but Carthage is always way bigger up front! This year's team is very big!
  15. I coached a youth game there in 2018 and we experienced everything you mentioned. It had rained the previous few days, and the sideline was literally a mud hole! This was also on a Saturday following a high school game so it was very similar to a hog pen. It was literally ankle deep in most places. It was actually a fun game, but the sideline situation was pretty ridiculous! West Sabine should make it a priority to fix it.
  16. Shelbyville wins. I guess the hometown will have to wait at least another week for basketball.
  17. There doesn't seem to be much interest in this game. Even in the hometown the major talk is basketball season I get it with Shelbyville missing their best player plus a few other key starters, but I'm of the belief that it's not over until it's over! Dig in and get the win! Groveton is not an unmoveable mountain! Dragons by 1 score!
  18. 1. Tennyhaw 2. Joe Quin It's the proximity to the field that gets me. It can cause a lot of problems! Especially during rival games! I've witnessed bad things happen in both places that were defiantly exacerbated by the fans being so close to the action.
  19. For the small schools in the area it depends a lot on how big the games are. If it's just a normal game the parking is fairly decent in most places, but if it's a big game who knows where you might end up parking! I know my 4 wheel drive truck has saved us a lot of walking
  20. I've heard from several sources that Herring gets his way.
  21. I've NEVER yelled at an official in my life. As a coach, fan or player. That scans about 50 years. I've also worn a uniform in combat for this country and I know all about scrutiny. I also still believe that the UIL paired with the schools can fix the problem. They waste millions of dollars in their budgets.
  22. I say AGIAN the onsides kick was well executed. It should have been the kicking teams ball. On the PI I've seen way worse not get called. On this particular play it looks to me like the kid is just making a play on the ball as he is being covered really well. Good catch. Go back and watch where Cambell DRAGS Bussey to the ground! Cost Timpson the game. Herring tends to get good calls. I've seen it for a long time.
  23. The onsides kick was a successful recovery by the kicking team. Very well executed. On the offensive PI it's hard to say. I do know last year Ernest Cambell blatantly pulled Terry Bussey to the ground and caught the pass that sealed the deal for Refugio. There was no flag. It was a terribly bad blown call. Or non call. It was way more offensive PI than this one. Highschool officiating is as bad as I've ever seen it in my 40 plus years of being around the sport. The problem is the shortage of officials. The UIL could do better! If not, the schools could budget in enough money to cover their home games. They waste MILLIONS on other things! And yes, I have volunteered my time. I put a decade into coaching and managing youth sports in our area. We had better officiating than what I see at current UIL events. Rant oover. Fix it UIL!!
