  1. Like I said earlier. This one will be fun and I guess it will come down to who has the ball last
  2. Coming off the bye week the Eagles are well rested and finally 100% healthy. The Rusk offense rolls and the defense slows Center down enough to get the Eagles a win.
  3. I saw Center’s QB last year live when we played and I’ve seen a little bit of him this year. Good size and very athletic. He is a true dual threat QB. He has a strong arm but his running ability is his best attribute in my opinion. Most dangerous when he pulls the ball down to scramble because he is hard to bring down and he keeps his eyes down the field. More than a few times I’ve seen him pull up and throw it deep when the defense commits to stop him from running. Rusk QB is similar size. He is also athletic but not to the same extent as the kid from Center. He’s the younger brother of the Rusk QB from last year (who just got his first start for the University of Colorado this weekend and played very well) and an all District WR and DB. He has a cannon for an arm and can make all the throws. Very smart on reading the defense and knowing where to go with the ball. Had he played QB last year I think he would be on the radar of several power 5 schools. He is legit. Obviously his dad played in the NFL for years so he’s been trained well. It should be fun watching these two go at it.
  4. It should be a good one. I’m glad we have them at home. Rusk, Center and Van are all playing for second obviously but 2nd is more important than usual. Nobody wants to make the playoffs and draw Gilmer or PG round one. There is no room for error.
  5. Rusk kicks a FG with 6 seconds left to win it 45-42
  6. I’m not a guru but “the spread” is the original from the 50’s or the first variation from 3 yards and a cloud of dust. The run and shoot (multiple routes for each receiver)and west coast (short passes and slants but the QB is under center) are variations along with every other multiple receiver sets. It’s not a “fad” it’s been around forever.
  7. Best opponent either team has faced so far. Should be a good game.
  8. He’s a 6’3 190 skill player. I assume they could find him a position on defense.
  9. The new receiver from Benton LA by way of EF will probably help a little on offense.
  10. Whether you believe it or not Sinton was on this same level last year. Thanks to a little good fortune and JD Thompson being on an even higher level, they came up short. We had zero business beating them.
  11. Their next opponent is the only team to beat them this year. I think Sinton lost one player from last year’s team, they are loaded with D1 baseball commits.
  12. Yes. Have not heard where or when yet. We are gonna have our work cut out for us.
  13. Rusk beats La Grange 3-0, 3-0 17 4A advances 3 (Rusk, Carthage and Hudson) to Quarterfinals.
  14. I’m surprised no one has dropped a name for this one yet.
  15. The stadium is no longer an issue. Probably one of the best HS stadiums you will find anywhere
  16. Take the regions out of the mix in the first round of the playoffs and let the 3rd and 4th place teams in Regions 2&3 play 1st and 2nd place teams in regions 1&4. There might be 30% of the teams in regions 1&4 left after one week.
  17. I’m not a Carthage fan and I understand people get excited when the colossal giant is defeated but you’re the poster child for a bad winner. If you handle success poorly it makes people think you haven’t had it before. Just saying. BTW if you say “blowing smoke up your team’s ...” that’s a collective group so it’s a singular “butt”. If you’re talking about multiple teams then “butts” would be correct.
  18. At this point any team that doesn’t come out and play their best game all season will be playing their last game of the season. I believe Carthage will be the best team on the field regardless of the opponent but there are teams this year, including China Spring, good enough to beat them if they don’t bring their “A” game.
  19. Bellville’s defense is underrated but their offense is “as advertised”. This should be a good matchup. I don’t see anyone outside of Carthage keeping Bellville’s backs contained. BB by 14.
  20. Let’s not. I’m all for supporting our District teams but I’d rather not play Carthage again. I will pull for my Eagles being in the Regional finals against any other team if you’d like to join me.
