  1. @Bclove05 What did you think of New Diana? With EF, Hughes Springs, and Waskom (somewhat) being down, could they make the playoffs? I don't know much about Queen City
  2. Agree and probably give Chambers a chance to be bigger part of offense. BUT, it may also take Sigler and Gonzalez out of the running game except for some type of jet sweep. Keeling and staff know what they are doing so I'm sure they will have a way to utilize all of their weapons out of the Gun as well especially if they don't have a dominant fullback.
  3. Keeling has gone to the darkside...lol. Did they get in the gun at all last year?
  4. Watched most of the controlled part on NFHS until the stream stopped. Watson was definitely the best player on the field, imo. Not sure if he was always under center last year but it seemed like he was in the gun at least half the time in the scrimmage. He scored on a long run (75?) and a short run (35?) but I thought other than that LE kept Tatum's offense bottled up pretty well. I would also think LE's defense is better than anything Tatum will see in district. Tatum also picked off 3 passes in the controlled part in which 2 would have been pick 6. From what I could tell Tatum only had about 22-24 in the varsity (black) jerseys for some reason and almost their entire 2nd defense was JV kids. Maybe still just competing for spots. I thought several of the JV kids made plays against LE's 2s. Be interested to see if Tatum intends to use the gun during the season as much as they showed in the scrimmage or whether they were just working on it.
  5. Seemed to me pretty most of their opinion of Gladewater was based off what they saw in last year's MV game. Definitely not one of the Bears' finer moments.
  6. Thanks....it was Poteet I was thinking of.
  7. I know he has been at several schools and written two books about culture. Seems like I remember him making a big splash his first year at Grapevine (I think?). Has he won much besides that season?
  8. What decisions do you think need to be made for football to succeed?
  9. Not sure how many Roughnecks this is....and maybe 2 kids from spring hill???????
  10. Not sure how many Roughnecks this is....and maybe 2 guys from Spring Hill?????
  11. Was there I brawl or something off the field that ended this rivalry? Seems like I remember something along those lines. Without a doubt, this rivalry was as intense/heated as any back during its heyday
  12. So, along with some rivalries no longer being competitive, is this the main reason these former rivalry games have faded? Any other thoughts? Could it be that society in general is just "softer" these days and rivalries are seen as "bad"? Just curious to what others think because I definitely don't see the animosity that used to define some rivalries.
  13. @Racer55 Did Ludlow get any kids out of the halls or off the baseball/basketball teams that can help fill in for all of the seniors WO lost. DCTF says they just return 4 starters.....3 offense and 1 defense
  14. Just to clarify, I took the $375 from one of @Allheartnoquit posts. It was the amount he was suggesting would be more fair to pay officials. I am aware refs don't currently make close to $375 per game....
  15. Lol....sorry the "almost" was a poor attempt at insinuating hyperbole. I don't think you can live off of $375 per week but I do think that is a bit much to pay per official for officiating a varsity football game. But then again if you get $375 for Friday and pickup sub-varsity games on Thursday, maybe you could live off that .....JUST KIDDING!!!!
  16. I agree that paying more is a way to increase the number of officials but I think the behavior of players, coaches, and fans is just as big of a factor. I know when I was officiating that I felt that way. However, the amounts you are talking about (in my opinion) are a bit over the top. Everyone deserves fair pay for their job but it seems to me by some of your comments that you are almost treating officiating as a primary source of income. Again, I think pay is part of the problem but your comments seem to insinuate (maybe I'm wrong) that pay is the main motivation for the best officials and I just don't think that is the case just like it is not the main motivation for the best coaches.
  17. What are some traditional ET football rivalries that have lost some luster over that past few years? I'll start..... The Battle of G-Town.....Gilmer vs Gladewater The Battle of Hawkins Creek....Spring Hill vs White Oak
  18. Books A Million in Longview put them on the shelf today
  19. Has Longview gameday taken over the coverage of Longview football from the LNJ? It just seems crazy to me that the #1 running back in the country is committing in his hometown and the LNJ is not covering the event. No tweets or articles from Jack Stallard, Thomas Bingham or from the ETVarsity account covering the announcement itself. Only a preview article on Taylor making his choice today. I miss Hayden Henry.
