They (PG) are so used to getting home cooking from the officials they get their feelings hurt when they don’t get every call going their way.

if their coaching staff had not tried to make the entire game about the QB, they might have come out better. They did not utilize any of their running backs, it was just the QB Right, QB Left and QB up the middle.

Their RB has DI offers, just as the QB does. He ran exceptionally hard the few times he got to carry the ball. I join you in wondering why he didn’t get more carries…and why the big junior TE, who already has many DI offers, wasn’t thrown to more.

Well, that actually depends on if D P is using a 3-man front or a 4-man front.  Did lose one off the 4-man.

I believe that was DE KD Bell, who was CHS’s only two-way starter.

Senior starting LBs last year were Deiontae Marry in the middle and Viencint Cabada on the outside.

Senior starters in the secondary were CB Kendrick Harper and safeties Jekerrian Roquemore and Zsema’d Williams.

That team was still pretty good. I think the program overall is much better now. That was still early days. But 3 times more talented? Not sure about that one. Ed Pope was on that team. Bogie was the sophomore QB. Had a ton of sophomores that didn’t lose many games after that season. Competition was a little more stiff. Lost to Lindale, CH, Gilmer and Argyle.

Had to go to OT to win in Pittsburg.

Not for sure but possibly a rb have had a receiver out a few weeks he dressed out last game but didn't play so questionable on him only recent  injuries lost a lineman for the season bout mid season which has caused one lineman to go both ways only one on team that does

The receiver mentioned above, who is a sophomore, wasn’t a starter. He is very talented; I’ve seen him referred to on this website as a potential DI prospect.

Not that the outcome would of been different but it IS notable that #5, who's brother and him they keep mentioning above, did NOT play last year along with PG's leading rusher. Both were two way starters along with two other standouts that were injured. 4 players were out in the 4th round game last year AND just like this year, their depth is a bit of concern if you're a PG fan.

It looks like PG will have two key players out this game, along with the kicker who has not played since the Pittsburg game.

There was previously mention that the center would miss this week’s game due to injury. Who is the other key player expected to miss the game?

If PG does what they normally do defensively then Carthage will have to go to shorter choice routes, with that being said it depends if Carthage decides rather to double team #5 or not. They typically have him rush wide forcing QBs to step up and another guy is coming.

I just feel Carthage hasn’t run the ball effectively as they have in seasons passed, also it will be interesting to see how losing Matlock affects things. I know they did a lot without him. But you cannot deny the fact when he is in there have been a lot of big plays with him, through the air and on the ground.

Ask Kilgore about the effectiveness of Carthage’s run game this year.

  8. CHS’s 3rd round playoff record under Coach Surratt is 12-2. The 2 losses were 10 years apart.

    2019 - won over Crandall 52-21

2018 - won over Midlothian Heritage 50-49 (OT)

    2017 - won over Silsbee 64-36

    2016 - won over Henderson 33-31

2015 - won over defending state champion Navasota 55-48

    2014 - n/a (lost in the 2nd round)

    2013 - won over Silsbee 49-6

    2012 - won over Silsbee 50-21

Been almost 3 months since I've laid eyes on either one of these teams. I remember PG having some freakish looking players and a lot of team speed. I've heard they could have as many as 9 D-1 players on their roster. Carthage was young when we played them, but their D-line and RB's are second to none. Looking at their schedules, they've both had relatively light lifting the last couple of months. Everything considered, I have to take Carthage in this one. Their defense is legit and they're probably going to be more well-prepared in the special teams aspect. And this is basically a state championship game in the 3rd round. Can someone remind me what Surratt's record is in state championship games?

    9-0

It could be a lot more than 35 to 0 by half time.

If the pass into the end zone on the last play of the 1st half had been completed (or the apparent pass interference by VA on it had been called) and the sure PIC6 hadn’t been dropped by the CHS DE, it would have been.

Should be at least the traditional 35-0 at halftime I’d think.

I just watched on line Van Alstyne versus Aubrey.
It is not going to be a good game for Van Alstyne.
They are about the same level as Rusk.
I am afraid this will get ugly pretty quick.

Other than being “about the same level as Rusk”, what is the additional scouting report on Van Alstyne (team, not announcers)?

Bay City is a good football team and are very capable of giving Kilgore all they want if the Black Cats play a great game. A good defense with an accurate passer with talented receivers is a good formula to beat anybody.

That said, if you made a list of all the things you wanted your football team to be strong at.... Kilgore would check all the boxes. If I were an opposing coach and I had to put a game plan together to beat Kilgore..... I wouldn't have any idea where to start.

I would start by looking closely at the videos of this season’s previous games, especially those in which the opponents had some success. Of course, my team might not have the weapons to successfully attack the areas revealed in such videos as weaknesses…but that’s a start.

If I was an offensive coordinator, I would make sure I looked at the Carthage, Gilmer, and Lindale games. On the other side of the ball, I would look closely at the Carthage,  Pine Tree, and Athens games.
