Which is wild when you think about all of it. LE nearly beat Van, SH was up by 12 with 2 minutes left in the game vs LE,
LE beat SH 21-15. If LE scored 18 points in the game’s last 2 minutes, that’s wild. What happened? A couple of SH turnovers?

I don't think any team WANTS to see Pittsburg in the playoffs. Talk about a team that's got some momentum going into the playoffs, especially if they win tomorrow night. They are finally figuring out how to win with their new systems. If they beat LE tomorrow, who will they get in the first round?
What is their season record?
what is their most impressive win to-date?

Carthage has 86 points scored against them so far this season. (that includes the zero points we (Jasper) scored).
Clever!

Anything of interest from yesterday’s Chalk Talk that can be disclosed here?

The two that played last week on defense didn’t look like freshman. They could start on varsity at SH right now.
I’m sure at least one of the two is a defensive lineman, as there was some discussion of him on this site last month. I believe he was #54.
Who is the other one? -
Shepherd is winless in district play this year, and that isn’t likely to change.
Shepherd lost to Center by 16; CHS beat the Roughriders by 46.
Shepherd lost to Madisonville by 9; CHS beat that team by 51 last week.
Shepherd lost to Jasper by 28; CHS beat Jasper by that many points.
Shepherd lost to Rusk by 34; CHS defeated the Eagles by 21.
All of the Carthage seniors should get playing time on Senior Night this Friday.

I am sure you will be happy to hear that 2 freshmen got some playing time on defense tonight.
If they transferred in from Henderson, please keep it to yourself. Lions70 might not be able to handle that news…lol

Between Rusk, Mville, and Jasper, I think Jasper would have the better chance to upset C Spring because of Jasper's defense..............So, if I thought C Spring would/could get beat in the 2nd round, I would be hoping Mville beats Jasper by 11 or more.
Having seen Jasper’s offense, I think they have almost no chance of upsetting China Spring.

Who is the likely bi district “victim”?
Gatesville, unless they come from 13 points down tonight against Waco Connally

Actually… Orangfield wins tonight and they are basically the 2nd seed out of that district not Silsbee. So Orangefield vs Sweeny will be the Bi district game I believe
Either of these would be a new team for Carthage to play, although Sweeny beat the Bulldogs in the baseball playoffs once or twice in the past few years.

District champions do not meet another district champion until, at the earliest, the 3rd round of the playoffs........Carthage and China Spring will meet in the 3rd round.
The first two rounds will probably be against Gatesville and…I’ll guess Silsbee. The Bulldogs seem to come up against them just about every year.

BevBrowm - I have seen enough games to form an opinion my friend. And that is you guys are stretching to find something to talk about every week. Y’all don’t have the same type of problems that the rest of us do.
As with almost all of your posts, I wholeheartedly agree. Hence, I started this thread without asking the typical question of “Who are you picking to win this one?”

I have followed Carthage for several years and had a chance to attend a few games.
A “few games” means 50 or so, correct?

The Carthage Bulldogs will make the long journey to Madisonville Friday night as they attempt to extend their winning streak to 38.
How many turnovers will they have?
How many touchdowns will they give up?

Carthage increases its win streak to 37 with this win against Rusk. The current 4a record is 40 held by Carthage and WO-S. Carthage should eclipse that this season. 40 games in a row is also tied for 9th all time any class. Looking ahead the 8th spot all time is 41 held by Hull-Daisetta and the 7th spot is held by Cuero at 44. The all time win streak is 68 held by Celina.
Another cool stat is Carthage and SLC are the only 2 programs in the state with 3 x 30+ game win streaks. If Carthage’s current win streak gets to 40 again they will be the only program in the history to TXHSFB with 2 or more 40 game win streaks.
Carthage is also on a 49 game regular season win streak. With Allen, Argyle and Denton Ryan all having a regular season loss this year Carthage currently has the longest active regular season win streak in the state. Looks like they will finish the regular season winning 51 in a row. That will be tied for 9th all time with SLC from 2002-07. The current 4a record is 71 held by SLC from 1986-93. Allen holds the all time record at 84 which ended this year. That steak started in 2012.
Just a note because we all know where Carthage stands on championships. 8 is tied for 3rd place with SLC, Celina and Mart. Ahead of that it’s Katy with 9 and Aledo with 10. Will be a battle to pull ahead of Katy and Aledo. Like Carthage they keep winning. Scott Surratt is individually tied for 2nd place with G.A. Moore with 8 state titles. Ahead of them is Gordon Wood with 9. Fully expect SS to leave Carthage with that individual record.
Pretty impressive stuff. Probably the most impressive part of all of this is that it’s all happened since 2008.
Thanks for sharing; very good information.

The only thing more ridiculous than 7 turnovers in a game is winning 77 out of 78.

I’ve got an interesting, ESPN type, stat for everyone that thinks Carthage might win this game.
In the history of Rusk HS football the Eagles have never lost a home game to Carthage, in October, with Sitton as the head coach.
Y’all might need to pump the brakes on the shut out talk since this Bulldog team is attempting to do something no other Carthage team has ever done. Just saying
It appears that in the history of Rusk HS football, the Eagles have never played a home game in October with Sitton as head coach against a Carthage team coached by Scott Surratt.

Was there any news from Coach Surratt’s Chalk Talk on Monday that can be shared here?

I’ll go with Brad Pitt as Surratt & George Clooney as Preston.
I’m confident both coaches approve of your choices!

Since Telly Savalas is no longer available, Bruce Willis should play Coach Preston.

I know you will be glad to know Carthage started 3 juniors and a freshman on defense against P G last Friday…..so not the whole defense graduating this year.
Along with 8 underclassmen starting on offense. Is the freshman a defensive lineman? Got a name and jersey number for him?

Just did a quick Google and looks like he is at Navarro!
Thanks. I see that he had 5 carries in the season opener against Cisco, averaging an impressive 17 yards per carry. This included a 61-yarder.
Perhaps he is now injured. Let’s hope he hasn’t had the same experience at Navarro as Dwight Smith did. My recollection is that Dwight played in only one (or two) games there.

Having never before played Carthage, the poor Kennedale lads didn’t have any idea what they were going to be encountering…lol
