  1. I asked this on another thread (“Kilgore @ Carthage Week One”) over a month ago and never got a response. I’m going to try again now: I didn’t see Kilgore play last year, which was its first year under Coach Woods’s successor from Pleasant Grove. Does the Kilgore offense under him strongly resemble Pleasant Grove’s offense?
  2. I hope it’s not because of that blankety-blank virus!
  3. Hadn’t previously heard about him. Can he play defense? That’s where there is a need.
  4. In recent years, we Carthage fans have had to worry during the nondistrict part of the season about our team having 2 consecutive open dates or playing its second game of the season against a state-ranked team which already had 3 games under their belt. We won’t have such worries this year, with only a single open date on the final week of the regular season.
  5. Does Pitt now run - maybe “RUN” is more appropriate - the same offense as Pleasant Grove?
  6. Kilgore and Marshall will probably be the two toughest games in the regular season. I guess Marshall will be the very toughest. I’m also guessing that next in line as far as regular-season challenges will be Van. Would enjoy learning others’ opinions:

  8. Please tell me more about him.
  9. Did Carthage play 7 on 7 this year? If so, how did they look? And was Hatten out there?
  10. What do you know about Bellville to prompt that prediction?
  11. Game 1 of a best of 3 series: Carthage 8, Giddings 1 The only senior among CHS’s starters last night, Javarian Roquemore, got the win despite walking 7 during his 6 innings on the mound. Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 will be played Friday in Madisonville.
  12. Carthage is mighty young. In the 2-game series against Waco Robinson last week, they started 1 senior (LF) in the 1st game and 2 (LF & P) in the 2nd.
  13. Not directly on topic, but it has just been announced that Keaontay’s younger brother, Kelvontay Dixon, is transferring from UT to SMU. Seems like a good decision to me.
  14. Apparently not. He is on A&M’s spring roster. BTW, Carthage, Henderson and Marshall (as well as Silsbee and Stafford) each had 1 former player drafted. The entire Austin area had only 1 of its former high school players drafted, as only Lake Travis had a former player picked.
  15. Another player drafted who Keaontay played against in high school was DB Jalen Pitre of Stafford High School and Baylor University. He was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year last year and a second round pick by the Texans. In Pitre’s final high school game, he was ejected for targeting when he hit a defenseless Keaontay in the flat after an overthrown pass. Carthage came from behind to beat the talented Stafford team in that game on its way to a state championship.
  16. The new coach (whoever he is) will apparently have some talent to work with right off the bat. A 1,500-yard RB and a 246-pound lLB were both on Smoaky’s 2021 All-East Texas Team (Honorable Mention). Also named as a Second Team Kick/Punt Returner was Domar Roberson, who returned 2 kickoffs and a punt for touchdowns last season. Will Domar be back next season, or is he graduating this year?
  17. CHS is going to have to hustle to make the playoffs this year, despite starting their season much earlier than normal. They won district last year, and they reached the regional tournament when Keaontay Ingram was a senior. Fairly impressive considering their first practice both of those seasons was after state championship football games in late December. The basketball coach, Charlie Tucker, is a full-time football coach until football season ends.
  18. Johnny is 70 (plus or minus a year) now. Probably not looking to get back into coaching a Texas high school football team.
  19. If that’s true, we can forget about the Fightin’ Indians scheduling a nondistrict game against Carthage.
  20. It sure would be nice if a lot more posts on this website had even half as much thought put into them as this one did!
  21. Both #54, James Morrow, and #84, Kash Courtney, are currently freshmen who were named Honorable Mention All-District this year for their play on the varsity level.
  22. Silsbee's coach, Joe Sigler, graduated from Center before playing at Panola Junior College and Angelo State.
  23. Lorena was very impressive…and they were playing without their leading rusher!
