  1. CHS’s 3rd round playoff record under Coach Surratt is 12-2. The 2 losses were 10 years apart. 2022 - won over Gilmer 28-7 2021 - lost to eventual state champion China Spring 27-17 2020 - won over Salado 35-7 2019 - won over Crandall 52-21 2018 - won over Midlothian Heritage 50-49 (OT) 2017 - won over Silsbee 64-36 2016 - won over Henderson 33-31 2015 - won over defending state champion Navasota 55-48 2014 - n/a (lost in the 2nd round) 2013 - won over Silsbee 49-6 2012 - won over Silsbee 50-21 2011 - lost to Argyle 35-34 (2 OTs) 2010 - won over Dallas Madison 42-13 2009 - won over Caldwell 56-41 2008 - won over Rockdale 55-28 2007 - n/a (lost in the 2nd round)
  2. The average score of a PG game this year has been 51-15, or a 36-point differential. For CHS, it’s 44-10, which is a 34-point average margin of victory. Of the 3 common opponents, PG beat Pittsburg and Rusk by an average of 20 points more than did CHS. However, CHS beat Liberty-Eylau by 27 points more than did PG.
  3. If the pass into the end zone on the last play of the 1st half had been completed (or the apparent pass interference by VA on it had been called) and the sure PIC6 hadn’t been dropped by the CHS DE, it would have been.
  4. Other than being “about the same level as Rusk”, what is the additional scouting report on Van Alstyne (team, not announcers)?
  5. I would start by looking closely at the videos of this season’s previous games, especially those in which the opponents had some success. Of course, my team might not have the weapons to successfully attack the areas revealed in such videos as weaknesses…but that’s a start. If I was an offensive coordinator, I would make sure I looked at the Carthage, Gilmer, and Lindale games. On the other side of the ball, I would look closely at the Carthage, Pine Tree, and Athens games.
  6. Excuse my ignorance, but what is a “locked district”? Does every school in Texas have an option as to whether to choose to be “locked” or not?
  7. Just out of curiosity as I’ll be at another game Friday night, where will this game be played?
  8. Two of the 260-pounders are juniors, one of whom has already committed to Baylor. The other, who several DI schools have expressed interest in, is the only Bulldog playing both ways this year.
  9. I don’t disagree, and I’m certainly not proposing that CHS doesn’t need to be concerned about turning the ball over. Just sayin’…
  10. CHS gave up 3 interceptions against 4A DI power Kilgore - 1 of them a PIC 6- and still beat them on the road.
  11. Perhaps we’ll have a chance to see on Friday if the Van Alstyne coach learned that night the proper coaching etiquette in such situations.
  12. Under Coach Surratt, CHS is 14-2 in 2nd round playoff games. (Excluding his 1st year, the 2nd-round record is 14-1.) 2022 - WON over Van Alstyne 61-30 2021 - WON over Hamshire-Fannett 42-14 2020 - WON over Silsbee 49-0 2019 - WON over Lumberton 55-17 2018 - WON over Huffman Hargrave 46-0 2017 - WON over Brazosport 45-21 2016 - WON over Houston North Forest 41-6 2015 - WON over Stafford 34-0 2014 - LOST to El Campo 21-28 2013 - WON over defending state champion Navasota 44-14 2012 - WON over Taylor 56-21 2011 - WON over North Forney 31-12 2010 - WON over Canton 56-27 2009 - WON over Mexia 35-26 2008 - WON over Lorena 49-14 2007 - LOST to defending state champion and eventual two-time state champion Liberty Hill 14-41
  13. The number of different plays that are actually used from the playbook that is available to the 2’s & 3’s is likely affected by whether the opponent continues to leave its 1st team in after CHS pulls its 1st team.
  14. VAN ALSTYNE PANTHERS (7-3) Finished 2nd in District 5-4A DII Averaged 31.7 points a game Averaged giving up 19.2 points a game LOST 22-28 to Pottsboro (9-2) - Pottsboro won its 3A bi-district game against Jefferson (7-3) 34-28 WON 36-29 over 5A DI Frisco Lebanon Trail (2-8) LOST 28-31 to Sulphur Springs (8-3) - Sulphur Springs lost its 4A DI bi-district game to Dallas Carter (8-3) 35-41 (Sulphur Springs defeated Liberty-Eylau (3-7) 52-34 in a non-district game) WON 26-14 over Krum (5-6) - Krum lost its 4ADII bi-district game against Sunnyvale (9-2) 7-47 WON 49-13 over Sanger (2-8) LOST 7-17 to Aubrey (7-3) in the district championship game - Aubrey defeated Quinlan Ford (5-6) in its 4ADII bi-district game 34-2 & will play Van (8-3) in round 2 WON 27-14 over Farmersville (6-4) - Farmersville lost its 4ADII bi-district game against Caddo Mills (8-3) 10-38 WON 57-12 over Bridgeport (1-9) WON 38-14 over Gainesville (5-5) WON its 4ADII bi- district game against Wills Point (5-6) 27-20
  15. I understand this game will be played in Mount Pleasant on Friday night. Is the kick-off time known yet?
  16. Actually, “7-0” is what showed as the halftime score on the Friday Night Lights app. And I couldn’t confirm using this thread because there wasn’t a single post about the 1st half here.
  17. Kilgore up 7-0 at the half. Is Livingston not who you thought they were?
  18. CHS used 8 different RBs against L-E. I don’t think I’ve seen that many RBs get carries for one team in a high school game since John Tyler many years ago.
  19. I would guess slim to none. Stadium availability is a big issue for the 1st round games, and Pine Tree’s stadium is already booked for a 3A game tomorrow night. Also, Coach Surratt doesn’t like playing on Saturdays. Under Coach Surratt, CHS has played in many playoff games in which the weather was worse than tonight’s is predicted to be.
  20. There’s hope. Center gave up a combined 128 points during a two-game stretch last month and came back to beat Bullard the next week. (As you may recall, Bullard is the same team that last week upset Van.)
