  1. 10:39 left in the 1st quarter: Center answers with a 72-yard TD pass. Carthage leads 21-14.
  2. 11:16 remaining in the 1st half: Carthage leads 21-7. The Bulldogs have scored on all 3 of their possessions.
  3. After 1st quarter, Carthage leads 14-7 and is driving again.
  4. I suppose you saw Center up close, given that they played Spring Hill earlier this season. As the Roughriders aren’t giving up nearly as many points this year as last, what are your thoughts about their D this year?
  5. This means that none of the Bulldog or Roughrider players who will be participating in this week’s game had even been born when Center last defeated Carthage…that’s a long time!
  6. It’s been awhile since Center beat Carthage. About 20 years?
  7. Obviously not. I guess my question for you is: if Henderson can beat Kilgore (which beat Carthage, as everyone knows), how did the Lions manage to lose to L-E (which Carthage beat by nearly 40 points)?
  8. With no disrespect to Henderson, to whom I offer congratulations: Having seen Kilgore’s season opener, I’ve got to ask…how in the world did they give up 27 points to Henderson? Thinking about the homecoming dance rather than the football game? Overconfident? Injuries?
  9. To confirm the last sentence above, he caught a TD pass against Chapel Hill.
  10. #5 started on defense against Kilgore, as he has in every other game. I believe you're right that he has played some offense since the Kilgore game.
  11. I wonder if 18, 26, and 33 were out with injuries or playing on the JV that week. None of them were on the roster in that week’s program.
  12. In last week's 28-14 loss to Weslaco, San Benito (SB) scored twice in the last 5 minutes of the first half to tie the score at 14-14. One of those scoring drives went 14 plays. SB's QB & a RB rushed for 80+ yards each. In Week 4, the game wasn't decided until less than 3 minutes remained as SB came back from a 21-0 deficit with 7 minutes left in the 1st half. The tying score in the third quarter came on the final play of another 14-play drive. SB gave up passes of 96, 81, 65, and 22 yards in this loss to a team from Monterey, Mexico. In the Week 3 loss, SB threw more than 30 passes in being shut out by Laredo United. The winners were held to less than 50 yards rushing but had 3 passing touchdowns. In Week 2, SB scored in the first quarter on a 71-yard run to get within a touchdown of state powerhouse Austin Westlake, but the favorites scored the last 49 points of the game in their convincing win. Other than the touchdown run, SB was held to 63 yards of offense. In the season opener, SB went up 14-6 in the second quarter against PSJA North, which came into the game with a 23-game regular-season winning streak. However, SB was outscored 28-8 in the second half in losing to last year's Class 5A Division I regional semifinalist, whose regular-game winning streak is currently 27.
  13. They’re undoubtedly studying the video of the Kilgore game real hard.
  14. San Benito (0-5) lost 22-42 to Pharr San Juan Alamo North (4-0) lost 7-63 to Austin Westlake (3-1) lost 0-28 to Laredo United (2-2) lost 21-28 to Monterrey, Mexico lost 14-28 last night to Weslaco (3-2)
  15. KJ Edwards had 179 yards on just 6 carries; he scored on 2 of those carries. Two other underclassmen, Benny Smith and Kaidon Graves, also had rushing touchdowns.
  16. We’re now within a week of this highly anticipated game. Carthage lost its season opener and has rebounded with 3 wins in a row. San Benito has played 5 games and is still looking for its first win.
  17. It’s yet another battle of Bulldogs. It will be Carthage’s homecoming game. Chapel Hill defeated Jasper by 36 in the season opener but lost its homecoming game to Carthage last week by 31. What will have to happen for this one to be competitive?
  18. Who were the Carthage MVPs on offense, defense, and special teams for the Chapel Hill game? (I believe Coach Surratt announces that information first thing, before starting the video.)
  19. It appears the Carthage varsity has called up some of the players who started out this season on the JV. One of the starting LBs the past two weeks, #26, wasn’t on the varsity roster for the opening game against Kilgore. With Preston out tonight, #18 played a lot at WR; he wasn’t on the opening roster either.
  20. Considering the quality and rankings of these teams, there sure hasn’t been much discussion on this thread of their upcoming game against each other tomorrow night. Is it because they haven’t played each other lately and the two fan bases aren’t thus very familiar with their team’s opponent this week?
  21. And playing 2 weeks after spraining his ankle versus 30 minutes after was in his favor.
