  1. Bullard O-line doesn’t appear capable of blocking the Carthage front 7.
  2. Adding speed back there might be helpful against the defending state champions from Upshur County. Need to cut down on the 47 points allowed against those Buckeyes last year.
  3. What position does he play?
  4. Edwards & who?
  5. Predictions: Carthage wins this game by more than 40; # of CHS players catching passes exceeds # of points scored by the visitors; # of times Larry & Mark ask Dustin who carried or caught the ball during the game exceeds the # of points CHS scores in the second half; This thread isn’t on Page 1 of this website between Monday noon and Thursday noon.
  6. I guess the good news for you and all the Roughrider fans is that Athens probably doesn’t have the same long record of winning at home that Gilmer and Carthage do.
  7. Back to the subject of the thread: This year’s Carthage offense is closing in on machine-like efficiency. The team punted last night in the 4th quarter when the 2nd unit was in. (That unit is getting a lot of action in second halves lately.) It was the first time Carthage has punted in the last 4 games! It must be extremely frustrating to opposing defenses to finally get them in 4th and long in their own end of the field, only to have them successfully go for it. The Bulldogs are incurring too many major penalties. That would be an area it would be nice to see improvement in before Thanksgiving.
  8. All I have seen of either team is their game against Carthage, so that’s what my opinion is based on. If the two teams were playing in Center, I would pick the Roughriders. It should be a competitive game.
  9. Athens plays better defense. Center has the better offense. I pick the home team - Athens.
  10. Athens D has done a good job against the run.
  11. Any suggestions on where to eat in Athens before tomorrow night’s game?
  12. He’s busy getting ready for his deer hunting!
  13. Another sign of how strong Carthage football is: there were no posts for more than 36 hours on the game thread during the week of what appears to be the district championship game.
  14. Both teams will come into the contest with 5-game winning streaks. Athens has scored more than 30 points in each of their games, but Carthage is allowing an average of less than 2 touchdowns per game. Athens is allowing an average of 23 points per game, while Carthage is scoring more than twice that (48.5 ppg). In fact, the Bulldogs have scored more than 50 points in each of their last 3 games and in 4 of their last 5. And the Hornets allowed Brownsboro to score 35 last week in the district opener. My prediction is that the Bulldogs again score more than 50 and hold the Hornets to less than half of their scoring average of 36. Carthage 51, Athens 17
  15. I see many professional and college head coaches on television who could learn something about use of timeouts by watching Coach Surratt.
  16. Indeed it was. With 22 seconds left in the first half, Carthage scored their 6th TD on their 6th possession to go up 42-14. Using their timeouts, the Bulldogs were able to get the ball back only 13 seconds later when Center punted with 9 seconds left. One pass completion later, senior Leo Medrano set a CHS record with a 48-yard field goal on the final play of the half.
  17. Given the title of this thread, I find it rather strange that there were more progress reports on this thread regarding the Henderson-Mabank game than the Kilgore-Chapel Hill game.
  18. FINAL: Carthage 59, Center 21 Carthage had 562 yards of offense (284 R, 278 P) Center had 306 yards of offense (119 R, 187 P) For the 3rd straight game, Carthage didn’t punt.
  19. Carthage RB Benny Smith scores his 4th TD of the night to put his team up 59-21 with 1:27 left in the 3rd quarter.
  20. Center scores with 4:01 left in the 3rd quarter. Carthage up 52-21.
  21. Benny Smith scores his 3rd rushing TD of the night. With 7:28 left in the 3rd quarter, Carthage leads 52-14.
  22. 1st Half Stats: Carthage 392 yards - 187 R & 205 P Center 164 yards - 67 R & 97 P
  23. Carthage had 7 possessions in the 1st half. Scored 6 TDs & a FG.
  24. Leo Medrano kicks a 48-yard field goal for Carthage on the last play of the first half. Carthage leads Center 45-14.
  25. Surratt to Jeffress for a 6-yard TD pass for Carthage, which leads 42-14 with 22 seconds left in the 1st half.
