  1. Has he been an AD at any other school? I see he has had a few successful years in the college ranks and as an asst high school coach, but not getting to recruit your own guys is a completely different game I would imagine.
  2. 2006 (9-3) Glen Tunstall2007 (5-5) Glen Tunstall 2008 (3-7) Booker Bowie2009 (6-5) Booker Bowie2010 (1-9) Lance Angel2011 (7-4) Lance Angel2012 (7-4) Lance Angel2013 (7-4) Lance Angel2014 (1-9) Jay Brown 2015 (1-9) 139-475 Robby Clark2016 (5-5) 269-279 Robby Clark2017 (4-6) 315-365 Robby Clark2018 (3-7) 227-315 Robby Clark Don't know him personally. Maybe someone from Palestine can enlighten me on how his tenure was over there. Was there a lack of talent? Seems like they had a decent record the previous few years prior to his arrival. I remember they were not very good the first couple years they joined our district.
  3. Is this the same Coach Brown that was at Palestine a few years back?
  4. Touche'. I will remind you however, in the last thread that got locked, that I mentioned 3 weeks ago that a coach in Morris County was out. That happened to be proven to not be a rumor or hearsay this week. My sources, or witnesses, if you will, happened to know what they were talking about. I guess we will wait and see how this all plays out.
  5. I am not bitter. I am just stating the facts that I was told. Me and my wife have lived in Henderson our whole life. We know, and are friends with teachers and administrators that work on every campus as well as people at the Administration building. I was told by people at the administration building that basketball interviews were yesterday, and that was confirmed by people at the high school who saw them being escorted around. My niece said she heard the info directly from the Jr High coaches mouth. I am not sure how that makes this hearsay.
  6. I heard they were interviewing yesterday for the Head Basketball and Volleyball jobs. To me, this says that the Asst. Supt. has all intentions of being the AD, otherwise they would have hired a Head Football coach first. Also heard from my niece that the wife of the Asst Supt, who coaches at the Jr High, informed the girl athletes that she was going to be the Girls Athletic Director, Head Volleyball, and Head Girls Track coach. Also she told them they are creating a job in Administration for her. Hopefully she has whatever certifications that she needs. Talk about a sweet deal for family! It's my guess the board is going to look the other way and let all of this go.
  7. We can agree on something else! I think splitting the duties are a mistake. Whats done is done, but I dont think all sports need a change. The soccer programs seem to be doing fine, as well as softball. Baseball seems to have struggled as of late, but in the current district things seem to be pretty tough. Henderson hasn't had a dominant pitcher in 10 years or so. Seems like everyone else in the district are spitting out D1 pitchers like sunflower seeds. As far as basketball, Henderson has tried DWF coaches in the recent past with no success. Not sure what direction they should head there. I would say they need to bring Brett Carr back, but he definitely will not leave Tatum for Henderson.
  8. That's fair enough. What about the AD position?
  9. Just digging through the historical section of smoaky and counted over 140 wins for Castles in his career as a head coach. That's enough wins to get respect from anyone. You may not respect him, some of the bleacher coaches in Henderson may not respect him, but that's enough to get respect from any coach.
  10. I have been watching Henderson football for many years, from DA all the way to Castles. When Henderson has comparable athletes to everyone else they have been successful. When they are less athletic they have been less successful. This isn't rocket science. Henderson seems to be going through a spell where they currently have less athletes than everyone else at the moment. In a few years I am sure that will change. I do not need to ask any other coach what they think about Castles. I have seen him win and lose just like ALL of those previous coaches. He has played and beaten, as well as lost to all of the Doom coaches. I am sure they respect him just as much as he respects them. Since you 3 stooges seem to know everything that's going on in Henderson, let's get back on topic and tell everyone who you would like to see the next hire be.
  11. Look, the fact that you can not formulate full words and sentences let's me know all that I need to know about your opinions. Your friend that told you this, was he at every practice? Was he at every workout? If he was unhappy with his son's playing time, or position did he talk to Castles? Maybe his son was not giving much effort. As I said in an earlier post, people that get mad at coaches for thinking their average athlete should be getting D1 offers are delusional. Just as delusional as being a bleacher coach who thinks his opinion on who should be playing where matters to a guy that's been a head coach for over 20 years!
  12. Maybe the new guy will hire your friend as a consultant since he knows where everyone should be playing.
  13. Well now it sounds like you may be an angry parent who is mad because your child did not get to play where you thought he should have played. Or maybe not played enough? Maybe next year you can draw up your offensive and defensive philosophy, as well as a depth chart, and present it to the new hire. I'm sure he will be glad to make those accommodations for you and your son.
  14. Finally something we can agree on. Out of the Henderson games I got to see this year, I don't think Henderson ever had the best athlete on the field. Maybe Mabank? I am not sure the future intentions of the current Henderson players, but there maybe 1 or 2 that could maybe go play small college football if they want. As much as the parents may want to believe their kids are D1 caliber like the ones in the past few seasons, they are not. I have a hard time believing that a coaching staff can take a very average athlete and turn them into a D1 prospect in 4 years. Most of the D1 athletes I have seen are genetically different than the average athlete.
  15. I understand exactly what you are saying. When Carthage was bad back in the day, it was because of poor coaching. Now that they are good, it is because of good coaching. The years Henderson hasn't had a good record under Castles, it was because of bad coaching. When Henderson was good under Castles, it was all athletes and no coaching. Once again, makes perfect sense.
  16. Is there anyone on this site that watched a Carthage game this year as well as a Henderson game? If you honestly do not think there was a difference in talent level you are delusional.
  17. It seems that some of you Castles haters have A) either a hard time reading, or B)a lack of understanding of basic english words. Once again, I was simply comparing the current athletes at each school, NOT comparing Castles to Surratt. I posed a hypothetical question after that and got one response. Someone in the Kilgore thread asked if changes were made due to the fact Carthage has had more success. It seems that some Henderson folks are doing the same. There is no doubt Surratt is a great coach, the best in East Texas for sure. Numbers do not lie. It is pointless for schools to hire and fire based on the success Carthage is currently going through. I am saying, with the amount of athletes Carthage has, you could call someone down from the bleachers to call plays and they would still probably beat most everyone.
  18. This sounds exactly like what the Biden Administration is saying about Trump. Everything makes sense now!
  19. Have no idea where or how to find out what the henderson defense ranked in the state this season, but Castles defense held Gilmer to 22 points this year, which is their lowest total of the year other than the 14 they scored on Carthage. If Castles was coaching the #1 ranked defense in the state, I would be willing to bet he could've held the Buckeyes to at least 13.
  20. I find it interesting that neither of you answered my question. If I recall, Henderson had the worst team it has had in 15 years or more this year, and if not for a lineman downfield call late in the game, a man that has ran the program into the ground had your Buckeyes beat! Everyone but sportsfanatic seems to want the best for the Henderson program.
  21. Out of the 8 years Castles has been in Henderson, the only years Henderson had better athletes than Carthage was in 2014 and 2016. Out of those years, Castles was 2-1 against Surratt. I was implying that some people that are disappointed in Castles and wanted him out, are comparing him to a program that is having the best run in Texas High School football history. Any program across the state that making that comparison is simply making a fool out of themselves. I was not comparing Castles to Surratt. I was comparing the athletes they have in Carthage currently to the athletes that Henderson currently has.
  22. That was the original plan, I actually suggested a different topic, but you seem to keep thinking that Henderson has had 0 coaching the past 8 years. If you have been to the same Henderson games as Ithe past couple of years, I have a serious question for you. I will use Carthage since they are the comparison everyone likes to use. Hypothetically speaking, if Castles and Surratt swapped places this past year, and each of the schools had the same athletes, would Carthage still have won it all? Would Henderson have won more games? I would be willing to bet Carthage still would've won it all, and I highly doubt Surratt would have won more games at Henderson. Carthage basically has an East Texas All Star team, and kudos to them, but when you dont have the athletes like that it does not matter if Saban is coaching, the outcome will be the same.
  23. I think we need to start a new thread that reads, "Who will be the next Henderson coach, after this one?" With the uproar that is currently going on, and with the talent Henderson currently has in the program, the hire this time will be very short-lived I'm afraid. Henderson will have a few athletes coming back, but a below average offensive line and qb, to go along with a brand new staff, I have a feeling next season may be worse than this one was. Let's just say the new hire goes 2-8 or 1-9 over the next 2 years, which is very possible, what happens next? Who gets the blame? The school board? Supt? Head coach? AD? People that say Castles is not a very good Xs and Os guy are about to find out that there are a lack of athletic genes connected to XX and XY chromosomes in Henderson at the moment!
  24. This will be the last post that I make on this topic. Obviously it is disappointing the way things have turned out for Castles and the coaching staff, as there has been much uproar throughout the community. If you read the kltv, ketk, and several other articles it paints a completely different picture of Castles than the Henderson Daily News article. The Henderson Daily News article mentions ALL of his accomplishments at HHS. As far as the next coach, I would hope that a PROVEN winner is hired, otherwise this community and the anger that has been displayed after this may affect folks at the top. People that want to compare this job to Carthage, which seems to be the norm here, live in an alternate reality than everyone else. Maybe some Carthage historians can help me here, but I believe Castles is 1 of very coaches anywhere that has beaten Surratt more than once. Good luck to Coach Castles, and thank you for being a great leader for our kids!
  25. As a Henderson Alum, it is hard to watch what us going on with my school right now. I have heard both good things, as well as bad things from this new administration, but I am not sure what their reasoning is behind this move. From what I have heard, the whole agenda from the start was to turn HISD into a mini Duncanville, which is where the new admin is from. Doesn't make sense that they would reassign the winningest coach in school history on April 1st and expect to get a good hire. Especially since they removed the AD title. As Blesseddaily said, I'm sure the president Hendo clown will be in town all weekend courting the board members, shaking hands, and kissing babies, while promoting himself as the savior of the program. I can't imagine he would be the front runner for this job though. Word is that he was also reassigned and non-renewed yesterday in Morris County. There has also been word that the new administration has told the band director to start looking for a new job. Henderson has a huge band program and this may ruffle more feathers than anything else. It seems that they definitely don't mind ruffling feathers. Seems that just at the high school there are going to be 30-40 spots to fill next year, with several being coaches on the boys and girls side. I know they need a head volleyball, head girls and boys basketball to go along with all the football coaches that are about to leave. It was mentioned in church one morning that the Asst Supt ran the boys basketball coaches off the court one day in practice and took over, then tried to get the head coach to resign. It definitely doesn't sound like things are going to get better anytime soon. Varsity football won 3 games this year, JV won 0, and I believe the freshman won 2 or 3 games. Whoever gets this job will have their hands full for the next few years. Sounds like Hendo needs to clean house with some of the board members who have allowed this to happen and get things back on the right track!
