  1. Ouch!! Eagles licking their wounds......
  2. People in Texas don't move for athletic purposes! Slander!
  3. With no Robin Hood, this would not be an issue. Local money should stay local.
  4. How about let's wait and see how they do first before we criticize? Got to be better than some of the people I see. Sometimes a small school district with low pay and a bad program will not get any applicants for their opening. I know a small school that had ONE applicant for its open girls basketball position. What choice did they have? The district had to hire her. They tried to run with a top 5 team and were it not for the restraint of the other coach, it would've been 120-30. I bet this gentleman will be better than that.
  5. Queen CIty had one of the best small school basketball teams of the 1980's in the 86-87 season. I believe they were something like 29-3. Unfortunately, all three losses that year were to the same team: Hughes Springs. Two in district and then the regional final.
  6. When is the right time to throw in the towel? Is there a right time? If the kids still want to play, I don't think you can cancel a sport unless finances just won't hold up. Like was said above, if the community wants it and the kids want it....invest in it! Pay your coaches competitively and upgrade your facilities! I know of a school in West Texas who cancelled their baseball program because "they were not successful and participation is low." Not successful - true. Low participation - not necessarily. Funny thing - their girls basketball team won a state title 2 or 3 years before baseball was removed after being a complete doormat for the better part of three decades. This includes multiple seasons of less than 10 wins and a couple of one-and-done playoff appearances. Why the different philosophies? If the baseball program gets the ax, girls hoop should have been removed years earlier by the same criteria. Well, thank goodness they didn't. Baseball should've received the same consideration. I stand by my statement above.
  7. I wonder if anyone informed Mr. Stargell that he will get his players a couple of months out of the year and then they are on their own. Not much time for: " And I want to add that the Frankston kids better get ready to work, because Coach Stargell is all about developing the fundamentals and creating the foundation that builds championship players.”
  8. No way they get all those positions filled, which also means a shortage of classroom teachers. What an absolute mess. Looking at the job boards, should not be any problem for the exiting coaches to find a job.
  9. My money will be on Martins Mill and whoever comes out of the Panhandle.
  10. Congratulations to Coach WIlliams on an outstanding coaching career!
  11. I think the MPCH coach has shown admirable restraint in not ranking his team higher since all the 3A teams have suffered multiple losses. It looks like they have just as good of a chance to win the region as anyone else. They are also just as likely to be upset. Up in the air!!
  12. If I paid to get into thos North Lamar Pittsburg games, I would have asked for my money back.
  13. Did anyone ever think that maybe after a half decade of incredible results, that the talent level might be down a little? You know, that happens in small schools? Just food for thought...
  14. I know it has been a couple of years and teams change as players graduate, but it sure is hard to bet against a school that won back-to-back state titles in football AND basketball in the same years. That is a winning culture if I have ever seen one. Canadian by 4
  15. When I was in high school, I drew the short straw in junior English and had to read William Faulkner's book "The Sound and the Fury." It was BRUTAL. There was an entire chapter written from the point of view of a severely mentally challenged character with a very low IQ. It had no punctuation, no capital letters, and no way of knowing when one thought ended and another began. After reading that mess in the original post, I had flashbacks of that book. If you know so much, go get certified and get a coaching job. Be prepared to coach basketball and track as well as teach an academic subject. Good luck!!
  16. I don't know....in '98 we were in Mart's district for everything. They had John Garrett, both Cosbys, and a guy named Green who was a great athlete when he was not in hot water. They could have named their score when we pkayed them in basketball. I would be willing to bet that football team could compete with this year's version.
  17. I have coached a myriad of sports, girls and boys, for many years at small schools. So I can tell you this: The Waskom students, athletes, parents, staff, administrators, and fans should absolutely cherish and appreciate that amazing run of championship performances by their football team. There are towns and schools all over this state and nation that will NEVER get to experience that in any sport at their schools. However, for the sake of those boys and their coaches, do NOT compare them to the previous teams if the talent level is just not there. That is not fair to anyone, Appreciate them for their effort, character, and improvement from week 0 to week 10. When I coached in the Lubbock area, Smyer had the best small school girls basketball team I had ever seen. Even though they were ripping our girls a new one, I enjoyed watching them. They had 3 or 4 state tournament appearances and 2 state titles in a four or five year span. One or two years after that, they didn't make the playoffs. It happens in small schools. Support those Wildcats!!!!
  18. Canton 80+ yard drive for TD. 5+ minutes left Lorena 35-28
  19. First play from scrimmage to start the 4th quarter is a touchdown pass for the Leopards. Lorena 28 Canton 21
  20. On the internet 95.7 in Canton: Lorena 14 Canton 14 Interception Canton - TD return called back. Canton ball with under 2 minutes left in 1st half. Lorena NOT winning with ease.
