In my experience, when someone starts saying "politics" are the reason a kid isn't playing, that actually means "my kid isn't any good but I am politicking to get him some playing time and it didn't work, so now I am blaming politics."

My kids came thru several years ago and were average at best athletes and I admit that.  I have a relative that is a senior this year and got a lot of playing time in football this year.  That’s not the issue.  The issue is the politics that has been played over the last decade has taken away success from any Atlanta kid. That’s where I’m bothered by it.  It hasn’t changed and the same people that are connected pull strings to get their kids to play at all costs and gladly watch the team go 0-10 just so theirs got to play.  Our community has a ton of athletes each year but none stands up to the blatant politics and it’s frustrating to see it continue on year after year.

Why air out business like that? Just a question. I get your frustration. I've heard of players still being on the team but can't play for a little bit or however the AD/isd has stated their rules for whatever a student may do on offense. Do you know if they are still playing or not?

If you get my frustration then you should be able to see clearly  why I choose to discuss what’s going on.  I’ve had several kids close to my family  over the last 6-7 years  that have been faced with politics and double standards and it was gravely unfair.   It always seemed to be in favor of certain people in Atlanta and crap on the rest of them no matter the costs.  If you have ever been affiliated you know!  I don’t know anymore details yet but to me if you fail a drug test you should be removed immediately and the kids who have busted their butts playing back up at practice should get their shot. Are random drug test the norm now?  If not I wonder why it was ordered?

  3. So Atlanta  springs a drug test on the baseball team in which 4 players failed the test.  However all 4 players remain on the team unpunished. They must be part of the affluent family’s that have zero consequences for their actions.  Typical Atlanta BS.  Morton may be just another puppet if he doesn’t hold anyone and everyone accountable.

Baca will be a deathwish for Sabine Athletics. I’ve seen first hand at Pittsburg and Atlanta what he has done to their programs.  He’s notorious for creating division amongst the coaches  and kids.   He’s won a total of 3 games in the last 3 years. Y’all better read that again!  Has no clue what winning is.

Nothing out of the norm for him he did a lot of people wrong I’m not too worried about it but I do enjoy taking my shots. 🤣

I have relatives in Pittsburg that had 2 sons under Baca there.  Knowing all the  division he caused there I was shocked when we announced hiring him.  He knew nothing about developing a program and is def a confidence killer in kids. He is accustomed to losing then pointing fingers and blame as to why.  He is a terrible cancer for any program and hopefully Morton recognizes this.  We would be way better off bringing  in a new hire than to keep him around. He’s 4-26 last 3 years for sake how do we actually think he’s a benefit to our program over Horsley? As long as he is associated with varsity sit back and watch the fall out and division he will create and Lord knows we can’t handle much more negativity.   Still more house cleaning needed!

That’s two more African American educators lost in our district. There are very few as it is. One on the boys side and one on the girl’s side.

We lose those 2 coaches and a phenomenal running back to only keep the worlds worst coach in Brad Baca and we made up a job for the previous AD who should’ve been fired right along with Plunk.  It seems we aren’t concerned for the betterment of the kids program we are concerned for fattening the pay checks of the prominent ones.

any news in atl?? Is Morton bringing more coaches with him?

Let’s hope he brings in several more! I do know he’s starting to introduce some discipline and starting to get acclimated.  Hope he can see thru the fog and not buy into any outside pressure.  If he heads in the right direction the sky is the limit.  Hopefully we will see some more action soon!

Could be that there isn't much talent to pull from at the moment. Kids are clearly  going elsewhere.

I think that’s the million dollar question all should be asking!   “Kids are clearly going elsewhere”…………Why?!……..that’s the point of any of my discussions.  If we arent “as talented” because of kids going elsewhere then we all must find out why.   Anyone that’s been a fan the last 5 -10 years has seen discipline rapidly declining, politics played, kids leaving , the end result the first ever 0-10 season. This  should be alarming to anyone in our district or on this message board. I’m hopeful Morton is the man and will support him 100% however the old days must be left behind and a line drawn in the sand. If done so with a little patience from all of us the ingredients are here and within a few years could be ripe for the picking. Time for change!

The staff can only deal with “discipline” as the head man allows. It is impractical to completely disintegrate an entire coaching staff. Are you talking about every sport boys and girls or just football. There are guys on the staff who are tremendous coaches. Let the new guy come in and evaluate but to arbitrarily say to get rid of every last one is a bit of a stretch.

Sorry I wasn’t clear.  I’m speaking to the overall development culture and discipline in offseason and football.   I want the best for the kiddos and coaches but watching the program over last 5 years spiral is disheartening. Something must give.

God forbid letting the guy stick around so his son can graduate from the schools hes gone to his whole life......... coaches are people too and we forget that as parents often

Coaches must be looked at from a business standpoint first and foremost.  They know going in full well what the consequences are. If you want to talk about his son what about the 100s of others kids that have not had the same opportunities because of politics created when he was in charge.   I’m sick of hearing sob stories. Do your dang job or you lose it just that the real world is.

Did McClure have years on his contract and they didn't just want to pay him off? Or they really wanted to keep him around? Not unusual to create some bogus position or move them to transportation or something until their contract is up. But if he's there for the long haul, that's a huge red flag

I’m not sure the particulars of his contract.  What I am sure of is the terrible discipline and culture he created for a decade. I don’t care if you have to get a loan from the bank you don’t keep a cancer around you eliminate it immediately. You dang sure don’t let him anywhere near new AD hires or much less a search committee. That’s absurd.

Why is McClure still involved at all?  Just curious

Have no clue He shouldn’t even be employed by the district.  Instead of firing him they created a position for him and up his pay I hear.   I don’t care who it is if they don’t do their job fire them.  The top 3 picks for the position walked due to this alone I hear. So they hire a young inexperienced guy that will do exactly as McClure advises him to just like Plunk did. The kids lose while the select few fatten their pockets.

  13. In just very a short time everyone will see what type of character coach and mentor Morton will be.  If he comes in keeping any of the former staff then you will know where he stands and that McClure is really in charge behind scenes. IMO McClures ego doesn’t want another  AD to be successful that’s why he is always so heavily involved in the searches.  Not one coach that was on staff with McClure or Plunk better be left or you can put a fork in this one before he even begins. On the other hand if he does the right thing and cleans house the elite of Atlanta will scramble to replace him. Huge task ahead and I’m hoping he can turn this around but he has some major battles ahead to do so.   Politics is poisonous in Atlanta and I hope Morton’s inexperience as a AD isn’t a repeat of last year or the year before.

Morton is a very good coach and he works really hard! He was at Texas High with Norton and McClure.

Tried to tell everyone McClure connection! The top 3 I’ve heard sniffed out the political pressure by having a previous AD heavily involved and ran.   While I do wish Morton the and I’m hopeful he’s the one  however if he wants to build a power program and not be a Plunk part 2 he better clean house from top to bottom and replace it with fresh faces and cultures and discipline from the start.  They all must go or the cancer will grow.

  15. I’m hearing the pick is a younger guy that has McClure  connections from THS back in the day.  If so this should prove to most of the sheeple that McClure was and is on the search committee and his decade old culture and political influence  is alive and well in rabbit land and looks as if it’s here to stay. Unbelievable!

    1.   Was not ready to get out of the game last year

    2.  Has the Supts. ear and didn’t like what was happening (0-10)

    3.  Wants the job?

    Just a few IMO

Good points. In my opinion he wasn’t ready to give it up and out of spite he encouraged everyone to hire Plunk knowing what a disaster it would be since he had played Plunk twice in the past I believe.   In his own selfish ways a 0-10 Plunk would make his pitiful decade performance look great. Sad thing is I hear he is on this new search committee as well. He should be fired along with the rest of the remaining coaching staff. Atlanta has the assets but always screw it up with politics.  It’s hard for me to believe a great coach wouldn’t smell a rat with a previous AD still hanging around and decline the job.  That little man syndrome runs deep

    in rabbit land.  #fireeveryone

McClure didnt have anything  to do with his firing!

I agree Plunk and Baca got Plunk fired however with the awful culture McClure created during the decade he was around he should’ve been run completely off and never allowed to come to the stadium unless he purchased his own ticket much less be on any committee to hire.  He should be ashamed of the discipline he instilled in the program and embarrassed how his own kid acts   Get rid of everyone!

  18. It is my understanding that the AD prior to Plunk was on the search committee to hire Plunk and is now on the committee for the new AD.   To me that is a huge problem and should be quiet concerning.  That’s where Atlanta must finally make a change and cut any and everyone that has been a part of the program ever!  Cancer spreads and if anyone from Plunks or the previous AD staff remains that negativity will resonate and I predict similar outcomes no matter who we hire. We have had well over a decade of poor leadership and need to Cut the political BS once and for all. Doesn’t matter who you are kin to or what connection you have you must go!!
