  1. I hadn't thought of grouping Pecos with the El Paso schools. It's 3 hours away from El Paso, but Pecos is not close to anything except Andrews. There are 9 El Paso area schools and I debated whether to make them one district or two, so adding Pecos makes it easier to have two districts. You really have to start with El Paso when doing a mock because what happens out there really affects how the rest of the state shakes out. It's such a domino effect.
  2. Just my prediction. I don't feel great about some of the districts, but I'm pretty confident in how the East Texas districts work out.
  3. I heard cutoff numbers won't be released until Friday. Only enrollment numbers today.
  4. So I guess this isn't happening today? Any update on when they may release this?
  5. What are the driving factors for such a large increase to the D1/D2 cut off? I've read where some are predicting that number to be 990. That would be a 110 increase from last time. That would be pretty unprecedented. Whether Henderson stays or drops will have ripple effects to the North and West. The Tyler area district in 4A D1 needs six schools. If Henderson stays it looks like they will be the 6th school. If they drop then looks like Mabank would slide over and create a void for the SS / Paris / Kaufman district.
  6. I can't speak to what the Jacksonville Freshman and JV have done the rest of the year, but I was at the first game of the season against Sulphur Springs. SS Freshman won 52-6 and SS JV won 39-0, so it doesn't look like they've got a lot of help coming up anytime soon.
  7. UIL and TAPPS rules are almost identical when it comes to inclement weather. Both governing bodies follow NCAA rules for football, which give coaches four options if the game is suspended before the end of the fourth period and cannot be resumed: 1) resume the game at a later date, 2) terminate the game with a determined final score, 3) forfeit the game or 4) declare a no contest. The coaches in this game mutually decided that the game could not be continued and that it would be declared a no contest. Officially Gilmer did not win. Paris did not win. It is a no contest. Unofficially anybody can say or print whatever they'd like, including Dave Campbell.
  8. I’ll go out on a limb and say Kilgore shuts them out. I didn’t see anything out of Hallsville’s offense last week that makes me think they can score against Kilgore.
  9. Well that was embarrassing. We flat out didn’t show up at all. Maybe the slow start against Jax was a red flag. Like I said we do have the potential to be really good this year, but I think we’re up to 12 Sophs on varsity and I think 9 started. 4 on the O line. They better grow up fast. We may still be a year or two away. Our kids spent too much time talking trash this week. If you’re going to talk the talk you better be able to back it up. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

  11. I'm biased but I think SS wins by 14. We didn't blow out Jacksonville, but I wouldn't say we struggled either. It was just a typical first game. Not as crisp as we probably would have liked to be. And don't overlook Jacksonville. They have a WR that is a stud. I think he has multiple D1 offers. He scored their only two touchdowns. They just don't have enough to go around him, but I think they have a good shot at making the playoffs. We should be really good this year. We have the potential to finish the season as a top 10 team. We started last year 7-1 and then our QB broke his ankle. I think what has everybody excited around here is our Sophomore class. That group is special. I think we have 8 Sophomores starting on varsity this year. I think the expectation is those kids will play for a state championship before they graduate. As for this year our success will depend on how fast those young kids mature at the varsity level, but mixing those kids with a lot of returning talent has the potential to make for a really good season.
