  1. Did not take it as such at all. I am still a little raw about the whole deal. You are 100% correct in your assessment of the problem as far as district leadership. Vast majority of the community was supportive...in fact, there were no complaints, just being "saved from myself" (to quote leadership) in case there might be complaints. Thanks, but no thanks. You are ALSO correct about consistency being the #1 factor...which is why I ASKED for a 2 year contract and got it....just to walk away from it 5 months later. If me and my staff won't be allowed to do the job as we saw fit, it is better this way. A "yes man" will do well in Hubbard, an independent thinker....well, here we are. Thanks, for the good wishes from you and others.
  2. Well, tell applicants to hit me up...I know of 1 decent house that will be vacant by Jan 1. 3bd 2ba on a acre less than 7 miles from the school, so well within the radius. I was warned off this job on this very thread and by several other people in the area. Took it anyway. Just like someone else will.
  3. OK. Staff that was there: Headed up the single most successful fundraiser in Hubbard history, netted over $13K Found money in the budget to have play clocks installed (it is 2023) With the help of the school board got HUDL Focus Cameras for stadium and gym and signed up for beta-testing for Baseball/Softball Found a sponsor (Citizen's State Bank) to install new scoreboards for Football, Baseball and Softball In about 5 months on the job. Only 3.5 months with the kids - things were going well.... Totally agree with the first part of your post. The turnover is a symptom of weakness. Not weakness of the coaches being hired. I have heard the six-man thing in this thread...is the number going to go up for the bottom of six man? Lowest I projected out in the next 4 (I planned to be there at least 3, and since I love the area maybe finish out here) was 114. The current 6th grade class is tiny, but 5th and 4th are both pretty good size classes. Now, there is a high percentage of transfers but using current enrollment, I just don't see six man unless it is out law OR a big percentage of the transfers leave. Additionally, the last time Hubbard was 1A, they opted up and played 11-man ball. So, as much say as the community has in decision making for athletics, it may not happen even if enrollment says it should/could.
  4. Or my time as a car dealer in the San Antonio area. Who knows. There is an article (one meant to stir the pot, not report) in the San Angelo paper that he is probably referring to...a non-sequitur in my opinion.
  5. I am waiting to see what Dog3505 has for insights...I mean, he did say to do yourself a favor and look me up once I got the job.
  6. The guy that just resigned started a program where there was none...he only lasted until the Thursday before Thanksgiving. Weight room was on point. Kids being held accountable both in athletics and the classroom. Faculty was on board with what the coaching staff had going. Culture and leadership programs started with the boys, girls were just about to start. Coaching staff had come together well, every coach "rowing the boat" towards the same goal. Then basketball started. I might have some insight, since I am the guy that just resigned.
