  1. How to allow an overmatched opponent to stay in a football game, by the Gilmer high school football team. 1. Give the opponent extra possessions by turning the ball over. Gilmer has two turnovers in the first half. 2. Take points off the scoreboard with penalties. Gilmer had a touchdown called back because of a hold. 3. Commit multiple unnecessary personal fouls to keep drives alive for the other team. Gilmer had two turnovers they recovered called back because of penalties. Gilmer may win this game, but they have done everything in their power to keep Caddo Mills in it.
  2. 14-14. Gilmer is back to their undisciplined, mistake filled ways of a few weeks ago
  3. 43-7 now. The good news about having four teams from each district make the playoffs is it gives some teams in a really tough district a chance to continue playing. The bad news is it creates some really horrible mismatches.
  4. A few quick observations 1. Best game by Gilmer all season. By far. Both offense and defense. The game was NEVER in question, as Gilmer scored on their first 5 possessions, including a 99 yard drive. 2. Glad to see the return of the vertical passing game. Seems like Gilmer has been throwing screens and short out routes since week 5. They pushed the ball downfield deep tonight and it was very effective. 3. Also glad to see the 2 goal line stands in the 2nd half. The game was already out of reach, but Gilmer showed some real pride and kept PG out of the end zone. A great win. Hopefully this sets Gilmer up for a long playoff run.
  5. You beat me to it. Gilmer playing their best game of the season
  6. 51-7 final. Gilmer kicked it into another gear and LE came unraveled. really impressed with Jackson tonight. Gilmer has 2 quality RBs. Tennison tweaked his ankle. Hope it’s not serious. I’m afraid they might have lost an offensive lineman for the season though. Hopefully not but on crutches after the game Gilmer took care of business tonight. Especially in the 2nd half. I do wish the refs would have done a better job. The game got really chippy in the 3rd quarter and the refs didn’t get on top of it soon enough.
  7. 17-0 halftime. Gilmer getting their yards in the run game. However, Hanes has a thigh bruise or bad knee. So Jackson has been the workhorse. And he’s running really hard. Hopefully, Ashton isn’t hurt too bad. Injured while scoring the 1st TD.
  8. 0-0 end of 1st quarter. LE looks pretty good
  9. I actually enjoyed the game. The Gilmer D bent but did not break. Pitt made first downs, had some big plays, and ate clock, but Gilmer turned them over on all but 2 possessions, either on downs or fumbles. it wasn’t a great night offensively, but give some of the credit to the Pittsburg D. Gilmer couldn’t run the ball most of the night, unless it was Tennison on scrambles or QB draws. And he missed on the deep ball (underthrown all night). But the intermediate routes and screen game was working for the most part. I would like to see Gilmer more aggressive on offense, but I’d also like to see them execute better. Still too many penalties. I didn’t think this was a well officiated game. I don’t know if the refs were worse than the average HS officials, but they were more indecisive. Too many huddles where it looked like they were trying to figure things out.
  10. So, halftime score was 16-7 Gilmer, but that’s deceiving. Gilmer had 3 possessions and scored on all three. Pitt took the air totally out of the ball and ate clock. The Gilmer defense made stops when they needed to. Fastest first half Gilmer has played in years. second half was another story. Gilmer was unimaginative on their first drive, and made a careless turnover on their second drive. The defense bailed them out in the second half. But this game was never really in question. hopefully, the Gilmer D will use this as a tuneup for PG. I’m sure they will see a lot of the same plays. I don’t know why Gilmer doesn’t target Rockwall more, especially in the Red Zone. I despise the wing T and the Slot T. It slows down the game and chews up clock. But more power to a team if they can run it effectively.
  11. Is it Friday already? Wow it’s been a busy week! Game Day!! Go Buckeyes!!
  12. 56-14 final. positives for Gilmer: 1. Gilmer only had one bad personal foul. 2. Back ups played almost all of the fourth quarter. 3. No one was seriously injured. 4. Gilmer did what they were supposed to do against an overmatched team. concerns for Gilmer: 1. There are times when the defense seems lost. I don’t know if the schemes are too complicated, or if they are getting called too late. But at times Gilmer D is totally not set when the ball is snapped. 2. Gilmer’s execution of the two minute offense at the end of the first half it was not very good. They had a chance to work on some thing they might actually need in an important game, and it did not work. At the end of the day, it’s a win.
  13. I don’t know if that’s 100% true or not. They did not push the ball down the field, that’s for sure. Maybe they saw something on game film that led to those decisions. I do wish they would have gone for it on a couple of occasions in the first half. But if receivers would have held onto the football on some early passes, they would not have had to. I am very proud of how Gilmer played. They played hard for 4 quarters. And the defense played their hearts out. I would love to see a rematch in December. Maybe then, Gilmer would be more aggressive on the offensive side of the ball
  14. There are things you can do against a normal defense that you just can’t do against the Carthage D. A whole seems open, then it isn’t. A Receiver seems open, when he isn’t. Plays that would go for 20 yards against a normal defense go for 3 against Carthage. They are incredibly fast, extremely well disciplined, and shed blocks unbelievably well. I know some will say Gilmer was very conservative in their playcalling. I think maybe the Carthage D had a lot to do with that.
  15. If there is a QB question in Carthage, there shouldn’t be. 10 is clearly QB1. Gilmer has 1 first down. Not pushing the ball down the field at all. D has kept them in the game. And receivers have a case of the drops. Carthage extremely fundamentally sound.
  16. If tomorrow nights game is as exciting as the JV game, it will be a lot of fun. any suggestions on where to eat in Carthage?
  17. Guest side Ticket sales? I thought there might be a link on Gilmer’s website, but don’t see it. I don’t fully trust Gilmer right now. They are more talented than last year‘s team. I don’t think there’s a question about that. However, they make a lot of mistakes at the worst possible times. If Gilmer remains disciplined, this could be a great game. But if Gilmer comes out and makes a couple of mistakes, this game could get out of hand in a hurry
  18. Agreed. Also at times on defense it seems Gilmer tries to run kids on and off the field way too late, or tries to change defenses too late. They got burned on a busted coverage because of that. On the bright side, it does mean this team still has a lot of room for improvement
  19. I hope so. This team right now reminds me of the 2013 Buckeyes. That team had exceeded expectations in 2012, going all the way to state. The 2013 team had everyone back and should have gone back to state. But either because of overconfidence, lack of preparation, or whatever, they never fully clicked. That’s the way this team seems right now. I hope I’m wrong. I hope they get humble, hungry, and disciplined. They have amazing talent. When they are running on all cylinders, they can play lights out. Here’s hoping they can cut out the mistakes
  20. 49-35 Final. In this game was closer than it had any right to be. Lindale scored on a scoop and score from a bad snap on a punt. They also scored because Gilmer coaches out coached them selves and gave them an extra possession at the end of the first half. They scored when Gilmer stop them but gave them a fresh set of downs with an unsportsmanlike conduct, and they scored twice on fourth down. Gilmer is talented, unbelievably talented. But they have way too many mental lapses, like way too many mistakes, and still get way too many unsportsmanlike conduct calls him. Got to get cleaned up
  21. This game ain’t over. Gilmer still making WAY too many mistakes
  22. Gilmer is winning the offensive and defensive battle, but getting destroyed in special teams. Lindale’s first TD was on a scoop and score from a bad punt snap. Their second TD was after they punted to the 1 yard line and after a quick three and out Gilmer had a 20 yard punt.
  23. Anyone have tickets in the reserved section on the home side they are willing to part with? I’m a Gilmer fan through and through, but our daughter is a majorette. So we’ll be sitting on the Home side to watch her perform at halftime.
