Not sure. I'm just glad I don't live there anymore. The school was once a huge source of pride for the community when Mr Ogden was sup. Not so much anymore.
Agree Rick Ogden is one of a kind and did an awesome job. Disagree about pride. These kids will always have pride.

Has anyone talked with the kids? Has the supt met with them and let them know what is going on? Or is this still all hearsay?
I've always heard the devil's in the details.....

But this day in age, you have got to really suck not to make the playoffs right? I know HS never has or will be a "football" school, so maybe making the playoffs is their Superbowl. If so, congrats!
Didn't you say you played in HS? Thought I read that in one of your post.

Como Pickton got a good one with former HS OC Jeremy Phillips.

I am beginning to wonder when this is gonna end and somebody, the superintendent, board, softball coaches , somebody take ownership of this mess.
At this point, I just hope we can attract a quality AD and staff, turn the page and move forward. Kids deserve it. There are great people here. Many are upset about the whole thing. Some want changes. Either way, I just hope it's an easy transition for the kids. Also wish Coach Ed and all the coaches the very best. Somebody is getting some good good ones..........It's a great day to be alive, and a Mustang!

So basically they are down to what, 4 total coaches on boys side? Is the Coach Ed thing official now?
I think that is correct on the coaches. No public statement from anyone that I am aware of. Coach Ed was coaching 7th grade boys basketball this week. I'm sure he will do all he can for the kids 100% as long as he is there and allowed to. Always has.

Lots of holes to fill mid year. Wonder how many of the coaches left have time to pick up another assignment. Looks like this is going to test the commitment of some to the district. I have heard where the superintendent , principal take a sport or girls coaches switch over to a boys sport to help out in tough times . Looking at this looks like tough times to me.
One will be an AD/Head Football coach at another school. The other is resigned and I'm told is retiring. Hopefully for the kids sake that is all but I'm hearing things. We will see. A LOT of people are very disappointed.

Not sure on that.

What coaches quit?
One resigned yesterday. Another will soon be announced as AD/Head Football coach at another school. I think the sports effected will be power lifting coach, assistant baseball coach, and assistant tennis coach. They were both great coaches and will be missed.

I think that is what is making this situation worse. What are they waiting for? This came out over Thanksgiving break, so someone had to leak this out.
Oh the things I've heard. From.....what should be reliable sources considering. Seems they want a majority. All on the same page. Problem is, some board members on the other side of the fence. Some straddling. All parties supposedly under a gag order() Coaches quitting. Hope they get it all sorted out soon. Seems to me like this should have waited until after this school year. Other sports trying to carry on as usual. No AD....or maybe just not officially anymore? What a mess.

Coach Ed is a good man who loves Hughes Springs. The man spent his entire career there and though he may not have got a state championship he was able to get things going in the right direction. Over 100 wins in his tenure there is impressive. He didn’t have the talent of Carthage, Gilmer, or even Daingerfield, but he was able to make the football program relevant in a baseball town.
I also think the supt handled this just completely wrong. I truly believed that this should have been treated with more respect than it did. From what I understand the coaches found out through smoaky. These are people’s livelihoods, think they should know before the public.
Sorry to hear this for Coach Ed, and I truly hope he lands on his feet. I’d be cautious if I was anyone looking into this one.
Other than hearing through the grapevine, or on SDC, the public still don't know. No official public statement yet. I wouldn't be real excited to make the statement either. Coach Ed is a pretty popular guy around here other than with a few parents.

I wish Coach Ed the best. I will always support my school. Kids, coaches, teachers, and administrators regardless of who they are. I will support the new guy just the same. Always have. My folks been here 5 generations and wouldn't want to raise kids anywhere else. Go Mustangs!

I'll take that as a yes....
Just for clarification. Maybe you should read the post again. The context of the word ugly, not meaning what you are thinking apparently. I will try to explain. We were having an adult conversation about the money aspect. You know like budget. This is a school, not a football mecca. Believe me, it matters. Not ugly like you think with people bashing someone on social media and attempting to(not very good at it though) personal attacks. I have not made a single personal attack on anyone. I could ....but I won't . Not on something this serious. You have a good day now!

Of course it will get ugly. It's hs. That's why y'all will never be successful. People like you trying and hoping it turns out to be some dramatic thing. Sometimes things just need to change. It's not a big deal. Hs needs something new to maybe get the kids more involved and wanting to play football. Nothing wrong with Chris, just change is good sometimes. It's not like hs is state bound every year. What's it hurt to see if someone else can make y'all better. Stop being a female about it and starting drama.
BTW....I isn't gender identity a touchy subject with you progressive types?

That opinion goes both ways. Like I said in my first post. People like you are not worth arguing with. I will support my school and the coaches no matter who they are.

That’s not what I’ve been hearing, but I don’t live there so maybe the talk I’ve heard has come from the minority.
I would think so. Most don't even know. Not sure why the board members and other school officials "can't confirm or deny at this time".

Saw this thread and decided to investigate and maybe I’m missing something and someone can enlighten us.
In the 76 years pre-Edwards they won 4 District championships and had 11 playoff appearances. In Edwards’ 16 years they have 4 District championships and 14 playoff appearances.
Before Edwards 358-384 48% winning%
Now 465-451 51% winning %
Edwards 107-67 62% winning %
He quite literally turned them into a winning program, and frankly has become victim of his own success. They get spoiled and expect it every year when it’s just not plausible in small towns. You are going to have ups and downs in athleticism, it’s hard for a school of 320 to have great athletes every year. There are a lot of great people in Hughes Springs and my guess is they weren’t involved in this move. For the others that were, sometimes you need to watch what you ask for. My guess would be that this hurts Hughes Springs for a while. Didn’t he also have a couple of good athletes that have some years left?Who wants to follow Edwards at Hughes Springs???? The only person that can probably handle the community and the only person even close, more less over a 100 wins at Hughes Springs.
I have talked to a lot of people here. It is not supported by the masses. This will get ugly. Sometimes people forget who votes for them. Others forget who pays their salary.

He has been there the same number of years that Surratt has been at Carthage based on info in this thread. He has won right at half the number of games they have at Carthage. Now, before you start saying Carthage is a special place etc. It wasn’t before Surratt. And, I can remember a short few years ago that kids from Dfield, PP, and LK not to mention other places were transferring to HS. That place had the makings of being a Carthage or Gilmer of the 3A world. Didn’t y’all beat Dfield once or twice a couple years ago? I’m not saying it’s all one person’s fault, but when you’ve had 16 years to make a place special and you haven’t done anything to speak of in 5-6 years, something isn’t right.
HS has had around 18 coaches since the 1930's. Hell the Legend Dennis Alexander coached here 4-5 years barely went .500 and left and went to Dangerfield and immediate started filling the trophy case. After he left, other coaches continued filling it. Now.....why is that? Coaches?

Coach Ed talked to the kids today. Explained that sometimes things happen that is out of our control. Said this is one of those times. Told them he loves this place.Told them HS is a great place, not because of him or anyone else but because of the students......
