  1. Hell razor...you really should focus on the positive...
  2. Aw...come on PGDad...anything is possible! Can't you just believe?!....
  3. Lets get it started! Who wins this first District game?
  4. Vonerick! You are a freaking idiot with no idea of what you are talking about! I dare you to take a head coaching job and spend a few years leaving in the morning before your kids are up and getting home at night after they have gone to bed...then miss most of their ballgame or functions because you are taking care of the kids you coach ...look at your worn out wife and explain to her the meaning of it all and keep her convinced that it is worth it...there is no shame in going back to be an assistant coach when you are putting your family first...this is a quality of life decision based on family first...how dare you trivialize it by calling it an excuse! It is the sacfrifice of great proportion for a man to make when juggling career and family...I have done it and have known many others...I applaud coach Finney for having the guts to make the move...in looking back I have no regret having made the move and getting that time with MY children...they are grown and I can be a head coach again....and please don't come back with what would surely be your lame response of ...well you choose the coaching profession so live with it.....well, myself , many others, and coach Finney have made the choice to live with it...just on our own terms with our families first and no excuses. Very simply it's called finding balance in your life...not everyone has to be the workaholic coach whose life is in a shambles and kids are ignored with wife on the verge of leaving at any time...so hats off to you coach Finney! I have never met you but I understand completely ...don't let the ignorant people out there deter you...enjoy your family and your job....it is possible!
  5. we used to have some parents help us paint the field on Wednesday's...they just did it to help and never put us on the spot about their kid...we always had a great time together....just trying to make the field look nice....good fellowship....I miss those days cause we have turf now.......
  6. I am "Old School"......what can I say!!!!
  7. As a coach I do my best to play as many kids as possible....but I do have one weakness.....the better lookin' the moma ...the more that kid plays!!!!!
  8. I would love to participate in this ....but.....you know what will happen.....the parents that read this will start to recognize their own situation and get their feelings hurt....again.....just play everybody and call it recreational and don't keep score...everyone will be happy!!!! oh and give them all an award at the end of the season.....!!!
  9. I like LE in this one...I just have one reservation.....playing the game at NL....they have that great equalizer to the LE speed game.....its called the little yellow flag!!!....I bet the sky will be filled with yellow darts all night!!!
  10. Lets see....NL is playing for something here....MV will be playing for pride....the pride will fade after that running back runs over them about 40 times!!!....sorry...not even close....NL by a bunch.....
  11. If longhorns91 plan is correct...that would just stink!....I would rather they do nothing than have that!....a 6A to level the playing field would be best....
  12. Perhaps a guy who is established and has a proven track record could flat out get the job done?!
  13. I wouldnt let the craziness of the Texarkana construction get the better of me....especially if you are coming from Mt. Vernon! Why would you go through Texarkana?.....either you need to consult a map or you are coming from elsewhere!!!...Good Luck....
  14. I luv ya Buddy Ray! Just not that much!....P.Land will spoil the QC homecoming.....
  15. Gilmer is just too good for Gladewater this year.....
  16. And Ratking...one more thing...my point of view comes from having lived and played and coached through the old way and the no consequence way of today...I do have hindsight on these issues and as we all know it is a lot easier to see that way....my advice to you would be to listen to some old timers who have been there and get their advice and then attack college with a vigor like there is no tomarrow...scream into the face of the wind when it gets tough , and it will,...fight against those who would try to knock you down or take your job and dont quit and move on because of less resistance....if you stand up and fight and earn your keep, you will respect yourself more and 25 years from now you will see things with hindsight and the younger generation may call you sour and cynical, but you will have a back bone to take it and still try to help them to become the best young man they can be.....Good luck at school Rat King...I wish you the best......
  17. Ratking..I am sorry that I seem sour to you...and I wish you luck on going to school and I do realize the kids we are talking about are getting a degree...and thats the point ..to get the degree...as it took me 7 years to get mine and my pro carrear only lasted 3...the degree is what matters the most and thank goodness for coaches who gave me a big dose of realism when I was your age ..things were always tough and I never had the option to quit and change schools cause I was unwilling to loose a year....I think that all we are really talking about is a few transfers compared to the the greater number of kids who do stick it out and percervier...and it is worse in some sports than others....my whole point has been to make some consequences for the ability to transfer that it really....is it fair? I guess its all relative to whose side you pull up on...
  18. RatKing...check the way the world turns....people with college degrees earn more because they have them...and my life is better for it...in the world its called time served....like a factory worker in a union who works 20 years has more senority over the first year worker....he will most naturally have more rights than the young guy...but is usually the guy who hasent put in the time who will disagree with this situation and tell the rest of us that its not fair and that we are not better than them!...thats just whinning over something you will never change in our society...so get on the wagon ...serve your time ...get your degree...make the world a better place!...and dont tell me again that all the babes in college deserve to pick and choose when they desire...we have seen the atmosphere that the rules that allow that have created...and if you are at all old school..it will rankle your feathers...and for goodness sake quit blaming the coaches!! blaming others for my inabilities is sooooo modern day ....just change the rules to give the kids a saftey net in case of a moron coach messes with them...and give them consequences for transfer and the world will fall back in to line....then maybe the future generations will get back to learning what commitment to team is all about....
  19. one more thing...I was once a young coach who made decisions to turn down opprotunity of advancement for me and my family because I felt the obligation to the kids I put so much time into and that I owed them....ya know, it never worked out...when I did leave , I had missed the opprotunity and felt un-appreaciated...because no matter what you do for their kids, most parents today never feel you do enough and they soon forget the sacrifice you made for their kids....they just dont get it....am I cynical? oh yeah!...A good dose of it will help keep your head on straight in todays coaching world...so the coach's who leave because of opprotunity should not be blamed...not by me...but rather the new coaches coming in that wont honor a kids ride should be held accountable and like I said before ...safegaurds put in to protect them....
  20. yo steele...I am probably in more aggreement with you than it might seem ... i just dont like it all put on coaches because they leave for a better situation for their family...they have gone to coolege and earned the right to work at that level and put in their time and when opprotunity arrives they should take it....the college kid is still working to get there and shouldnt be afforded the consideration as the coach in the situation...but I do feel that safegaurds should be in place to protect the kid when the coach leaves....as I am a coach and send kids to school all the time...I am on their side ...I am just very "old school" in my approach and attitude...the rules have just gotten skewered and what is the root cause of all this evil? MONEY!...which also causes kids to leave school earlier than he should...in which case I feel he is cheating the school somewhat but is cheating himself more ....the educaton he misses will be missed in 10 to 15 years....but then again....give me a couple of million and I am smart enough not to need any more education!...but was i that smart when I was 20?...bottom line...all the rules need to be re-worked and give the kid more safegaurds...with regards to creating and teaching loyalty to our kids!...
  21. in talking to a few D1 college baseball coaches,,,they hate the no consequences of it all...they find themselves re-recruiting their players every year...other coaches are finding a way to use the rules and recruit other teams players through summer ball...all a kid does right now is get mad at the coach and look for a school to take him and he just moves on...thats just one college sport...wonder what goes on with other sports....
  22. and I am sorry , but your statement that your kids dont owe anybody anytime? and they could leave to find a better thing elsewhere? thats the kind of attitude that this rule has fostered...and that is really my point afterall...you made it for me...you ever try to coach kids with that attitude? not too fun....even worse when the parents enable them with it...difference between you and me is that my kid went to school on an athletic ride and just like many college freshman she was disenchanted with the coach and team and her role at first and all that...but she has been taught commitment and loyalty and team first from the time she could walk...she stuck it out and learned first hand the lessons life has thrown at her and she has come out the other side with a different vision and ready to go back and honor her commitment...and she knows I would never tell her that it ok baby you just work hard and come home and go where you think it will be easier to play cause you owe those people nothing....she knows she is not a free agent till after she gets to play in the pro's for a few years!!
