  1. 14-4A playoff sweep. Kilgore 61, Greenville 59 OT John Tyler 57, Royse City 39 Whitehouse 68, Sherman 65 Jacksonville 45, Mt Pleasant 44
  2. According to all three local tv stations, he's lawyered up now.
  3. Carthage is a huge winner moving to District 20 (Center, Diboll, Huntington, Jasper) instead of being in District 16 that now has Henderson, Gilmer, Chapel Hill, Kilgore, Bullard, Spring Hill and Gladewater. Leaving a district with 4 State Champs in the past two years and going into a district with none in recent memory. Another big winner is probably Stephenville dropping down to 3A.
  4. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/article/Fight-mars-end-of-Ozen-s-playoff-run-2294207.php#photo-1797151 This got ugly. Check out the photos on this link.
  5. Possibly play at a neutral site, perhaps in Caledonia?
  6. Again I think it depends on the chapter. I think that Tyler and East Texas both use crew systems. There are some chapters that put together crews by positions and rankings, etc. For example a referee may work with different linesmen, umpires, etc. each week. Back to your question, I think that each chapter approves their crews but they don't necessarily tell a crew chief who he can have on his crew. I hope that answers your question.
  7. It depends on the chapter that your school uses. I think that the schools that use East Texas Chapter and Tyler Chapter, they have a draft around February and the coaches get together and agree on the crew/chapter that they want to use. 5A schools go first, then 4A, 3A, etc. Some games are assigned by the chapter secretary but almost all games, the officials are chosen by the agreement of both coaches.
  8. On a side note..... and I think someone has mentioned this either on this thread or on another...... but here goes.... I can't understand why we cant have the varsity teams play together in order for the communites to support these teams wholly....on the road, but especially at home. It makes no sense to me to have the varsity men and the varsity ladies playing in opposite venues at the same time. Why not let these men and women play in front of the biggest crowd the community has to offer?? By having them play together it seems to me that each team would benefit by at least a few 100 fans (or more) by allowing them to play together. I know there are some schools that do it in the area. Sounds like they have some huge crowds. Not sure why 4A and 5A schools dont do this as well. I know there are logistical problems with having to send 2 buses for road games since it would be men and ladies teams instead of one sex/one bus of varsity and non-varisty players. BUT........isn't that a cost easily defrayed by a bigger home crowds? I witnessed this last at the ETBU double-header..... the ladies played in front of a crowd of about 800 and the men before about 1,200 - 1,300. The crowd was large, loud, and definately gave the home team the homecourt advantage. Both teams benefitted from them playing together on the same court on the same night. 1,300 for a basketball game in East Texas isn't shabby. Too bad more athletes dont get that kind of atmosphere because of a simple logistical issue IMHO. I think crowds over 1,000 (or even 2000) would become common place for some programs in the area. I've been impressed with some of the crowds in 14-4A. Better than I recall seeing in any other district we've been in over the last 5-6 years. And I wont even do more than mention the pitiful attendance seen back in the old 12-5A unless it was a district title type game. Let the varsity men and women play at home AND on the road together. I just think it makes sense from a community solidarity standpoint. Not to mention.....ultimately it will sell more tickets and elevate the player's spirits. Any one else feel this way.....or have some facts that may change my mind??? Here's why I think it's not being done. It's been tried in the past and the issue is you have 9th grade games (both boys and girls), JV games (both boys and girls) then varsity games (both boys and girls) and there's not enough time to play 6 games on Tues and Fri nights. You might then say....let the 9th grade and JV play at opposite sites but then your JV coach won't be able to assist your varsity coach for the varsity game because he/she is at the opposite venue. 13-4A (could have been 14-4A) district tried this a couple of years ago and it didn't work. This was the district with J'vlle, Kilgore, Whitehouse, etc. For example, the JV boys would play at 4:30 in one gym while JV grade girls played in the other gym. Then at 6:00 you'd have the varsity girls play in one gym and 9th boys in the other gym. Then at 7:30 you'd have varsity boys and 9th grade girls in two gyms. As you can imagine, the 9th grade girls game in the scenario above only had about 20 people in the stands (parents of the kids playing)because the rest of the fans were watching the varsity boys game in the other gym. I think the bottom line is there's just not enough time or gyms to pull it off. Kilgore forfeit upheld. From J'vlle daily progress. MARSHALL — The District 14-4A Executive Committee (DEC) assembled in Marshall on Thursday morning to discuss, among other items of business, a 2-0 forfeit win that was earned by the Indians in their Jan. 7 game at Kilgore. The committee heard an appeal by Kilgore that requested that the game be resumed at the start of the second half, which was the point that the contest had been stopped at originally, after altercations erupted at halftime that involved players from both teams as well as some fans from each school. The DEC denied Kilgore's request, with the game now officially going into the books as a 2-0 Jacksonville win by forfeit. Game officials conferred with the University Interscholastic League on Jan. 7 for a decision on how to proceed following the dust up. At that time the UIL stated that the game must be finished that night, but Kilgore coaches had already sent their players home, which left the Bulldogs with no other option except to forfeit. Kilgore led by three points on the scoreboard when tempers flaired as the teams were heding to the dressing rooms. The two teams will meet in Jacksonville on Feb. 1.
  9. Hmmm, so in 5 yrs if it fades like alot of other fields, that might be pink turf! Think they're anticipating Powder Puff football? Has title IX kicked in at New Braunfels?
  10. Without those 6 things for fans to gripe about, it sure would be quiet in the gym, ha!
  11. Whitehouse won 7-2. Payton Smith went the distance and only gave up 2 hits.
  12. I didn't see Earl Campbell in high school but I did see David Overstreet from Big Sandy and he's the most dominant in a high school game that I ever saw.
  13. 66-63 Whitehouse won on a Trey Metoyer 3 pointer with only a small amount of time left. Hudson's 3 pointer at the buzzer to tie fell short.
