  1. Nothing was said about taking a shot at anybody. I understand what you were trying to say because I do know you very well. There is no way in Haiti that you can say that Arp was the same as last year and in my opinion I think Jefferson is weaker this year than last also. Clarksville and Rivercrest are a little better offensively but haven't changed much defensively and we didn't play Hughes Springs last year unless you count the live half of the scrimmage that we tied in. I asked for your opinion and you gave it. What I am saying is that you can't compare one year's team to the next because your competition's personnel changes as much as yours does. It's never apples to apples. You said " in years " and that is saying a lot about several very good Pewitt teams. Goforth is the backup fullback and plays it very well but the starter being out keeps him from playing his primary position and makes us weaker there. Once we are at full health it will be interesting to see what we can accomplish, if that happens anytime soon.
  2. What, in your opinion makes this year's offense better than it has been in years. I think you need to take into consideration the strength of the teams we have played this year compared to the last several years. Sure we are scoring a lot of points but the first team is having to play the whole game just to get the wins because of what we are allowing. I don't think the first teams played much of the second half in most district games last year. Just saying.
  3. In the play that you are talking about, Pewitt's first baseman DID step on the bag. I feel strongly that if the umpire standing right behind and staring at the pitcher would have seen a balk that he would have called it. As far as a player telling an official "hey that's a balk": Isn't that like saying "hey Blue, that wasn't a strike".
  4. This hit, though great, came from an at bat that wouldn't have happened if the call had gone the other way. I am not blaming our loss on this call but it definitely changed the momentum and the outcome of the game. As for our coach's actions, what he did in response to that call was acceptable to me. Kicking dirt and throwing caps has been a part of the game of baseball for a long long time. He is the biggest reason for our success this year and the excitement of our parents and fans is the result of this and the fact that we have a chance to make the playoffs. That is something that as far as I know has never happened at Pewitt and we are proud of our boys. The Prariland players act the way they do because evidently they are allowed to. This type of behavior in school sports is either stopped immediately or it is condoned. I think it is evident where their coaches stand. I can pretty much guaranty that our players didn't do any mouthing to provoke the things that happened. I saw a pland fan come to our coach and some fans and apologize for how their players acted and I thought that was admirable. It also proves my point. JMO

  6. This discussion comes up almost every year at the end of Pewitt's season and is a touchy subject for some people. The ones who think we need to pass more, or be more balanced, make some good points. The ones who are against the pass, think that we win enough without it, and are not wrong either. If my facts are right, Pewitt threw 24 passes for the season with 6 being thrown in the Aubrey game. I think it would be safe to say that we threw at least 9 of the other 18 in the Arp and Daingerfield games with all of the completion percentages being pretty low. That means that about 75% of the passes we threw came in games that we were losing and were not very successful. My point is that if we don't work on it and be successful when we are winning then we can't rely on it when we are losing to save us. We all know that when next season rolls around that the coaches are going to do what they want to do and that's the bottom line, but it makes for a nice debate on this forum where people and fans are entitled to express their opinions. Different people have different goals and expectations as fans and parents and there is nothing wrong with that. I for one as a fan and parent would like to see Pewitt be a little more balanced and think that it would only enhance the program that we have in place, but that's just my opinion and it's not up to me. I watched a pretty bummed out senior mope around the house for a couple of days after the loss to Aubrey and I know from experience that he will remember it for the rest of his life, but it goes on......it's a game.
  7. Good job Brahmas. You had a well played hard fought season and have nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone has done everything that was asked of them all season long. For the seniors, it's been a joy watching all of the young boys grow into men for the last 6 years and I hope all of them go on to bigger and better things. For the youngsters, learn from the leadership that these seniors have showed and come back next year to continue the Brahma tradition. Mack Brown said it best. "Don't let this be the best thing that ever happens in your life. Maybe it'll be the best sports event, but don't let it be the best thing. Make sure you're a better father than this today. Make sure you're a better husband than this today. Because this goes away......It's a game."
  8. Pewitt can win this game but they are going to have to have their best game of the season. The Aubrey defense can play so I think we will have to mix it up more to move the ball and I'm not just talking about passing. Just more variety. The defense will have to do a better job of tackling because they won't be able to just knock down Aubrey's backs. I don't thin Aubrey will score more than 21 so if we can top that then its on to round 3. JMO
  9. I was asked to pass this along. The "official" send off for Pewitt with the cheerleaders will be at the school at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. The team leaves at 2:00. Go Bulls.
  10. The Avinger ISD Superintendant, Kenny Don Abernathy, passed away last night due to complications from a recent illness. He leaves behind a wife and a young daughter. Kenny Don was a scholar athlete and classmate at Hughes Springs, Class of 89, and played football at Austin College. He coached at Linden Kildare and then Daingerfield before moving into administration. He was about two weeks shy of his 39th birthday. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as he will be dearly missed.
