  1. What does Faith Christian have this year? What's their record? The Bulldogs have really struggled this year so far. I still say the Bulldogs will win this one at home. UH will make the playoffs IMO, but they need to play better if they are gonna go anywhere.
  2. THEM 'NECKS GONNA BLOW THEM PANTHERS AWAY!! White Oak 63 Spring Hill 0  Just kidding!! If history serves, it should be a better game than people think, but I think the Panthers will take this one 35-13.
  3. Pleasant Grove seems to finally have gotten untracked. That doesn't bode well for White Oak. Although the 'Necks could make a game of it, IMO, the Hawks win this one. Pleasant Grove 28 White Oak 13
  4. IMO Elysian Fields will win this one pretty easily. The 'Jackets are solid and will stand toe-to-toe with Tatum when they play each other. BTW, when do they meet? Elysian Fields 44 Garrison 13
  5. It's really sad that people expect for a new coach to come in and miraculously turn around a program overnight. Losing becomes a habit and is extremely hard to break. The main reason the habit of losing is hard to break is because people are prone to give up too quickly. First the fans, then the players, then the faculty......if they can't give it at least 3 years for the program's outlook to start looking better then how is the losing habit to be broken? The spread offense can look terrible for the first couple of years because the players have to learn the system and the coaches have to find the best fit for the personnel. A word of warning though, it is almost always worse BEFORE it gets better. Coaches will also make some bonehead decisions (as some put it) that you don't understand and don't agree with. I wish the people of Liberty City would acknowledge the above and SUPPORT their players and coaches more and stop bickering. I KNOW the players and coaches deserve your support whether they're winning or losing. A little confidence and support will go a long way and is like a snowball that runs downhill, it grows. Patience is needed to turn a losing program around.
  6. I'm having a little trouble figuring out this Pitt team. Are they for real or not? No doubt they have alot of talent and can score alot of points, but can they step up to the level of an established 3A powerhouse such as Royse City? I guess winning games in the fashion that the Pirates did in their first three games made them a little overconfident in that Carthage game. Sometimes that happens if you get too much of the victory sauce and you're not used to it. Did they savor too much of the victory sauce after the unexpectedly easy win over Paris? We'll just have to see. The outcome of this game depends on how the Pirates PREPARE and not get down when the going gets tough. This game will be a BIG test for Pitt. It could establish them as a team that is on the brink of doing something special. Royse City IS a GOOD 3A team and have earned their lofty ranking. If the Pirates could somehow pull off the upset, it would DEFINITELY be something to build on. Even if Pitt loses, it won't make or break their season. But, knowing how consistent RC is I'll still have to pick them to beat the Pirates. I hope I'm wrong, LOL! Royse City 44 Pittsburg 30
  7. REDWATER GONNA BLOW THEM TIGERS AWAY!!! Redwater 77 Daingerfield 0 :w00t: Just kidding!! It looked like y'all needed a wakeup call! Daingerfield should win this one in a ho-hum game by a few points. Maybe 49 or so.
  8. I have only one question: will there be any surprises in this district, LOL??? It's not going to be easy to pick a winner in any matchup in this district. Any team in this district can beat another on any given night and it seems to keep happening every week going back to last year. So......for what's it worth.......I'll have to give the edge to Hallsville in this one but I'm not even 60% sure and don't have a real reason why....... Hallsville 27 Henderson 21
  9. I think Marshall's tough schedule has definitely helped them fix any weaknesses they may have had. Pine Tree didn't play any really strong teams in pre-district and it shows. I think Pine Tree will win at least two district games but NOT THIS ONE! Marshall 35 Pine Tree 14
  10. Man, that's a rip-off! That reminds me of something that happened in a game between Gilmer and Paris at Mt. Pleasant in 2005. Paris's punter dropped the snap, picked it up under heavy pressure, ran a little and got the punt off. It sounded as if a Gilmer player may have partially blocked the punt. The ball went about 5-10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage without anyone else touching the ball. Then a Paris player picked up the ball and ran it into the endzone. They called it a touchdown. I've never had anyone explain how the punting team can score on a blocked punt that is not touched beyond the line of scrimmage. If anyone can explain it please let me know. Fortunately, that play didn't change the outcome of the game, but it made an otherwise blowout into a relatively close game. Gilmer eventually won 35-24.
  11. I'll have to pick Linden-Kildare in this one. Any other year I would have to pick PP, but not this year. The Bulls seem to be down this year while the Tigers are playing good ball. Linden-Kildare 35 Paul Pewitt 22
  12. I'll have to go with Mt. Pleasant in this one. They are both starting to click on all cylinders, but I have to give the edge to MP due to the stiffer competition they've played against. Mt. Pleasant 34 Carthage 21
  13. Hughes Springs looks like they're for real this year. I'll have to pick the Mustangs in this one. Hughes Springs 44 Queen City 20
  14. This could turn out to be closer than many think for several reasons. First, Atlanta always plays Gilmer tough. Throw the records out when these two teams meet. Secondly, Atlanta is battle-tested weekly, Gilmer is not. Thirdly, Gilmer has shown some weaknesses on defense and Atlanta should be able to exploit them. If Atlanta can slow Gilmer's offense or cause some turnovers this game will be close. With that being said, I think Gilmer's offense will eventually wear out the Atlanta defense with its size and depth. This game will not be put away until late in the 3rd quarter or early in the 4th. Look for the Rabbits to score at least 3 TDs and the Buckeyes to score at least 6 TDs if they don't turn the ball over (which they haven't been doing). If Gilmer comes out and plays with do-or-die intensity, both on offense and DEFENSE (especially), this game could become a rout. I'm not going to predict a score on this one, but I will say the Buckeyes will win.
  15. It's extremely tough to win at Paul Pewitt. Hughes Springs will have their test to see if they are for real or not. In trying to predict a winner in this one, my brain says Hughes Springs, but my gut says Paul Pewitt. Being as my gut is bigger than my brain............I'll say: Paul Pewitt 26 Hughes Springs 21
  16. North Lamar will take this one. The Panthers have a better defense and a ball control offense. North Lamar 35 Commerce 20
  17. Maybe Upshur Rural Elec. Coop. will donate all that land between the high school and Hwy 154. That would be an ideal spot for a new stadium. I just can't see how they could improve parking with the lack of empty space around the high school. The stadium itself is pretty nice to be as old as it is (built circa 1961). It still needs to have alot more seating and a new pressbox.
  18. Going to Center to see if the Buckeyes can beat the Roughriders.
  19. What?!! No Diamond Vision either?!! That's funny right there.............I don't care who you are............that's funny right there!
  20. Well said, coach. Maybe they were not run blitzing as I said, my memory has faded a little since then. They were so cat-quick maybe I just thought they were. If I remember correctly they were running a version of the 27 monster that year. With linebackers filling every gap and linemen stunting all over the place, maybe it just seemed like they were run blitzing every play. Wasn't that the defense that Morris Harville had started to implement and Coach Mayfield improved on? I know Harville left a year (maybe 2) before '83 and went to Gilmer. I will agree with you that that '83 defense would be dominating today, as it was then, but I still say some of the offenses of today would at least have a much better chance at scoring.
  21. Yes, Tunnel, I did see that team play in person. No need to question my opinion because that's all it is and all it will ever be. Just like yours and kevnasty's. Don't ask for opinions and not expect to get one that is different than yours. That's what makes this a free country. I saw that defense play and like I said before that was the best defense I've ever seen at any level before and since then. I love defense more than anything. I saw how fast those players were in the backfield, most of the time before the QB could even hand the ball off. It is also my opinion that any team that had an offense that had an effective passing game, like alot of teams do now, that if they could get the ball off, they could score on that defense. That's why I say that the spread offense would have worked much better against them than any other in that era. From the shotgun formation, it would afford the QB an extra second to get the ball off, and with good athletes who can catch and run quick slants, they would have moved the ball. Case in point, when Gilmer played them that year (Tigers won 14-0) I saw them move the ball effectively on the first drive in the second half, doing just what I mentioned, and they were NOT the same type of team they are today. Alot of teams pass the ball effectively, now, which would neutralize alot of the run blitz that they employed. That is what I'm basing my opinions on.
  22. kevnasty, you're just showing your ignorance. You obviously know nothing about football. I am entitled to my opinion as you are. I just think my opinion is more valid than yours, simply because I"VE SEEN ALL THESE TEAMS PLAY. I don't think you saw any of those Tiger teams play in real life. I don't see how you could be old enough, judging by the immature postings you've put on this site. First off, I always give credit where credit is due. I saw that '83 Daingerfield team play IN PERSON. My brother played against them. That was the most dominant defense I've ever seen at any level, bar none. IMO, they could have beaten any other team in the country at that time, regardless of classification. I also feel like the '80 Pitt team would have given them a good game. IMO, I think the '83 Tigers would win in a defensive struggle by no more than 2 TDs. Just my opinion, though. It is also my opinion that the Gilmer offense of today would score some points on that defense. I question whether the Buckeye defense could stop, or even slow down, that offense. If the defense could slow them down, to say 21 points, I think they could actually BEAT that '83 team. These are MY opinions and are based on what I"VE SEEN. The truth of the matter is WE"LL NEVER KNOW for sure. As for the other night against Daingerfield, hat's off to the Tigers for coming to play. I'm hoping that sent a wake-up call to the Buckeyes. If you knew anything about football, you'd know that anything can happen on a football field on Friday night and that it can be hard for a good team to get UP when playing a team they are supposed to beat. That's why the game is played ON THE FIELD and not on forums like this. So, you kevnasty, need to get your facts in a row and stop trying to belittle other more knowledgable and realistic fans who's opinions differ from yours and get a grip on YOUR ignorance!
  23. I like Buckeye Stadium in Gilmer. They have a beautiful field, good facilities, good lighting, and a good sound system. I like the mikes on the refs, too. It doesn't hurt that I'm a Buckeye fan and they have a good team, so it probably wouldn't matter if they played in a pasture with no seating, I'd still be there. GO BUCKEYES! Remember D-A-S-H! P.R.I.D.E. "Defense wins championships!"
  24. Harleton takes this one, IMO. Harleton 43 Winona 12
  25. You're right in part. Kilgore did play that '83 Daingerfield team. The score was 35-2. I believe Kilgore went 4-6 that year.
