  1. I'm just enjoying this jawing (or typing) back and forth. The Whitehouse fans are pretty rabid, not to mention irrational and reckless with their thoughts. Being confident is one thing, but I don't think giving a team like Kilgore bulletin board material is wise.......you still have to play the game! I can't see where anyone would think that Whitehouse, after getting a taste of winning, is suddenly going to become a dynasty. To become a dynasty, you must win alot of games over an extended period of time, win at least two or three state championships, and be in the hunt every year for at least ten years or more to be considered such. It's amusing to hear though! Back to the game....this ought to be a barn-burner. Kilgore must play ball control in this one. They must also bring their A-game defensively, too. If they can do these two things, they will win. If not, Whitehouse might light up the scoreboard. At this point, I think the edge has to go to Whitehouse, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Kilgore wins. Whitehouse 28 Kilgore 21
  2. I don't see Hemphill being able to keep up with Alto in this one. I do think Hemphill will score though. Alto 35 Hemphill 12
  3. I'll take Carlisle in a close one. Carlisle 33 Cayuga 28
  4. This is a rivalry game where anything can happen. With Mt. Vernon being at home, I think the game will be a little closer. I still don't see Mt. Vernon beating Winnsboro in this one. Winnsboro has more size and speed, and a better offense. This could be a long year for Mt. Vernon. Winnsboro 34 Mt. Vernon 20
  5. If Nacogdoches doesn't win this one it will be a long season for them. I think Nac wins this one easily. Nacogdoches 56 Center 13
  6. I think Brownsboro bounces back big in this one. Brownsboro 43 Sabine 21
  7. I'll pick Jacksonville in this one by 19. Jacksonville 40 Palestine 21
  8. Both of these teams are struggling this year thus far. I look for both teams to be in the playoffs. Every time I have picked Liberty-Eylau to win they've lost. So this time I'm going with Wimberley to win, and maybe the Leopard fans can thank me afterward. Wimberley 33 Liberty-Eylau 26
  9. This game should be a good one. It'll give everyone a better idea about how these two districts stack up against each other. I think Chapel Hill has played better thus far, been more consistent, and are playing with more emotion. Spring Hill got a big win last week on the road against Pleasant Grove, one they needed after a stinging loss to Daingerfield. Even though this one is in Spring Hill, I'll have to give the edge to the Bulldogs. Chapel Hill 28 Spring Hill 20
  10. IMO Lindale wins this one. I look for Lindale to right the ship at home. I think Canton will still be stinging from the big loss to Royse City. Lindale 35 Canton 27
  11. I'll have to give the edge to Crockett in this one. Crockett is at home and they have the better defense. The defense usually wins in matchups like this. I think Crockett's offense will have to control the ball more to keep the ball away from the Westwood offense. I think ball control will decide the outcome of this game. Crockett 34 Westwood 26
  12. Gilmer's defense is MUCH better than last year. They still have alot to work on but I think they'll be ready by playoff time. No matter how poor the defense was last year, it's still hard to replace nine starters and expect them to gel early in the season. They are very young with alot of sophomores seeing playing time. I saw some defensive relapses last week against Daingerfield that are in need of definite attention. When I say relapse, I mean I was having flashbacks to last season's defense when they couldn't stop anybody. They didn't look remotely similar to the defense I saw the first two weeks of the season. If they can get a few things fixed defensively, I don't see anything stopping them except a better overall team. IMO, the best teams in 3A are Royce City, Celina, Liberty Hill, Giddings, and Gilmer. I would have to give Liberty Hill the edge as being the top team, with any of these five being able to beat the other on a given night. If Gilmer can shore up the defense, I see them as being the best team.
  13. Although there seems to be much improvement in this district overall, I still think Gilmer takes the title. I don't see enough improvement in the other teams to dethrone the Buckeyes yet. The games could very well be alot closer than last year, but I don't think any of them will beat Gilmer. I see the same scenario as last year with Gilmer taking the district title, Spring Hill and Gladewater battling it out for second and third.
  14. Hat's off to Daingerfield! They came to play. The main things the Tigers have to do is eliminate the penalties and work on timing in their passing game. If they do these things, they could make some serious noise in 2A. As for Gilmer, they played uninspired football. They were flat from the get-go, especially on defense. The team that showed up Friday did NOT look like the same team I saw in their first two games. It says alot though about the talent level on this team. They played flat and still won easily. For the better part of the night, I was having flashbacks from last year when Gilmer couldn't stop anybody. That worries me tremendously. Not discrediting Daingerfield's effort, but the Buckeye's defense did not play very well. Daingerfield's offensive line man-handled the Buckeye defensive line the better part of the night. If the Tigers hadn't kept shooting themselves in the foot, they would've made an even better game of it. There were also alot of missed tackles by the Buckeyes, and the secondary is still a question mark. Overall, they did okay, but there's definitely things that need improving. I hope they can get these defensive kinks worked out before district play or they'll struggle.
  15. It might have surprised alot of folks, but not the Gilmer folks. At least not the majority of us. I, and most of the people I know, thought there was a good chance the Leopards could beat the Buckeyes. I felt like we would have to score at least 40 points to win and we didn't. Congratulations to the Leopards, by the way! Y'all earned it!
  16. It would be unbelievable but it ain't gonna happen.
  17. You said it Smokie! This is TEXAS! I think their motivation for rooting for the Florida team has to be from some underlying hate on SLC. Maybe I don't like some of the things SLC does, or stands for, but they ARE from TEXAS. To go one further, I think SLC HAS seen teams that are more disciplined ALONG with being bigger, faster, and stronger than Miami NW! I hope SLC executes to perfection and beats them badly. Maybe then it'll be proven, once and for all, that a TEAM that has character, along with discipline, can beat a team with superior athletes any day. The idea behind playing football is not just winning, it's about teaching young men how to be disciplined and function in society.
  18. I'm looking for the mild upset in this one. This will probably be a high scoring game. So my prediction is: Paris 44 Little Elm 38
  19. Arp @ Hemphill - Arp Elysian Fields @ Hooks - Elysian Fields Garrison @ West Sabine - Garrison Tatum @ Center - Tatum Timpson @ Tenaha - Tenaha Waskom @ Queen City - Waskom West Rusk @ Mt. Enterprise - West Rusk
  20. Ye$, I think it doe$ put alot of team$ with $ub-$tandard record$ into the playoff$. It'$ beyond me to figure out why they would want to do thi$, but I'm $ure $omeone can explain it in better term$, at lea$t more under$tandable term$. No, but $eriously, mo$t of the cla$$ification number$ are really not fair to the $chools in the lower end of cla$$ification number$ (only) and $hould be broken down into smaller group$, in$tead of Divi$ion$. You think any of the addition$ to the playoff field could have anything to do with revenue dollar$ it could generate? Just a thought. :saint:
  21. I think this could be the game for Liberty-Eylau to get the offense rolling. If they eliminate the penalties and don't turn the ball over, my prediction is this: Liberty Eylau 39 Greenville 19
  22. I think Van wins this one, but not by a blowout. True, the Vandals are playing better than Lindale so far this year, but Lindale seems to bring their A game for this matchup. Van 26 Lindale 15
  23. That's funny right there! I don't care who you are, that's funny right there!
  24. This is a tough district, for sure. IMO, Liberty-Eylau will win the district. Atlanta and Pittsburg will fight it out for 2nd and 3rd, although Pleasant Grove could play the spoiler and sneak into the playoffs. With the injury to Reed, I don't see that happening unless someone else emerges as a good feature back.
  25. Tough district to predict. That's for sure. I ain't sure anyone will get out that district without a loss. But I see it playing out like this: 1. Chapel Hill 2. Brownsboro 3. Van 4. Canton 5. Athens 6. Bullard This district will likely come down to the last game to decide who's in and who's out of the playoffs. The top 3 could be changed around to any order and would look legit.
