  1. I think this could go down to the wire. Hallsville has a very good defense, but the game is in Mt. Pleasant. I'll have to give the nod to Mt. Pleasant. Mt. Pleasant 17 Hallsville 14
  2. Do you realize that if Gilmer were in that district and made the playoffs, they would always be Division II. I don't see a whole lot of changes being made in the 3A classification (as far as the numbers) except with who is in what district. Nearly every district gets a big shakeup every realignment. Gilmer could very well BE in the same district with Liberty-Eylau, Atlanta, Pittsburg, Pleasant Grove, Mt. Vernon, etc. - all or part of 16AAA. I wouldn't be surprised at all.
  3. Yes, it can happen and probably will. Tatum can win that district, but I think Elysian Fields will have a chance to keep it from happening. Other than the Yellowjackets, I don't think any of the other teams will match up very well with the Eagles. The biggest thing I've seen this year that the Eagles need to work on is conditioning, but I think by the time district rolls around they will be physically ready to make another run at the title. You also have to consider WHO they gave up 71 points to. They won't be running into any teams in that district with the size and depth Gilmer has.
  4. Are you serious? The only way Ore City wins this one is if Joaquin doesn't show up! Joaquin 55 Ore City 12
  5. This one could get ugly. I think Pittsburg is the real deal this year. Pittsburg 55 Commerce 6
  6. This one could get ugly. I think Pittsburg is the real deal this year. Pittsburg 55 Commerce 6
  7. I think Garrison will pull this one out. Garrison 23 West Sabine 12
  8. Carlisle wins this one IMO. Carlisle 39 Shelbyville 20
  9. My crystal ball is a little foggy in this one so I'll have to wing it. I think Hughes Springs will be too much to overcome at their house. DeKalb might put up a good fight, maybe. Hughes Springs 40 DeKalb 21
  10. Van will win this one in a reasonably close one. Van 34 Lindale 26
  11. I'm looking for the upset in this one. I think Sabine wins a close one. Sabine 21 Bullard 20
  12. The only way Center wins this one IMO is if Tatum doesn't show up!
  13. I think Elysian Fields is a better team than Hooks this year. I still think it will be a little closer than the posts I've been reading. I'll say: Elysian Fields 36 Hooks 20
  14. I think Royse City wins this one going away. Royse City 55 Canton 27
  15. What's going on over there at Liberty-Eylau? They seem to have gotten off to a slow start. I haven't heard or read anything on them. Losing Middlebrooks was HUGE, but I didn't think they would struggle offensively as much as they. What are they having trouble with? What are the major problem areas with their team? Can you enlighten us?
  16. Although White Oak got a big win, I think Rains has more on the line in this game. White Oak could play them tough but I don't think they will beat Rains. Rains 33 White Oak 20
  17. This is ludicrous! Who exactly in Gilmer thinks they could play and compete in 5A? Why would anyone in Gilmer petition to play in 4A? Who in Gilmer blamed a weak district for their 1st round loss? We lost to the STATE CHAMPS in Liberty-Eylau, ENOUGH SAID! It doesn't matter if it was in the 1st round or the state championship game, we got beat!! I haven't heard a single person from Gilmer even mention a weak district as being the reason, nor any of these other things you mention. What LUNATIC were you talking to, or was this what YOU dreamed up? I think the latter! I live in Gilmer, attend all Buckeye games, and have NEVER heard anything like you mention. I don't think anyone from Gilmer would be that arrogant! Unless something drastic happens, Gilmer will continue to be 3A (about 650 students in high school puts them in the middle of the classification). Nobody I know of has any delusions of moving up a classification or two. You sure have lost validity in my eyes. By the way, Dallas Carter petitioned to move up to 5A from 4A. It was either be a large 4A or small 5A school.
  18. Optimistic, isn't he?!! I don't really think he believes what he's posting! Surely not! I think the Center team understands that Tatum lost to a GOOD Gilmer team and the Eagles will be looking to bounce back quickly. I think Tatum jumps on Center early and often.
  19. Class vs. no class; Discipline vs. no discipline; Rich suburbanite boys vs. inner-city boys; Do-right boys vs. thugs; I honestly don't think Miami NW deserves to be on the national stage with the type of attitude they display. Believe me when I say this, they will play dirty (I mean intentionally trying to hurt players), especially if they're getting beat. Those kids in Miami are growing up with bad attitudes thanks to poor role models and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if half of them end up either in prison or dead. It really is a sad story that this attitude is still being cultivated in a CIVIL society! I really hope I am wrong! I also hope Southlake Carroll brings the wood and literally HAMMERS those boys into submission, Texas-style! And I don't mean just barely!
  20. You're right outlaw! Now that you reminded me, they did they play two VERY good opponents! Maybe I'm a little overstating the outcome, but I do think Gladewater will win this one. Maybe not as badly as my previous post, so let me revise that score: Gladewater 41 Rusk 29
  21. I think this will be a good test for Tatum. Will the Eagles bounce back, or will they stay on the mat? Although this year's Center team has been playing better football, they don't have nearly the speed and coaching Tatum has. I see Tatum winning this one easily, but not as badly as some might think. Tatum 58 Center 27
  22. This should be a good gauge for Gilmer. This game, on paper, should be an easy win.........but this is DAINGERFIELD, the same team that put up 42 points against Gilmer's defense last year! The reason I think this is a good gauge is because it'll say alot about the maturity of this young defense.....will they be able to move on and prepare for Daingerfield after a big win against Tatum? Will they be able to forget about the possibility that it could be a mismatch and get UP to play them? I said it before, the difference between good teams and great teams is their ability to prepare and get UP for ALL opponents. They should NEVER think that just because a team has a worse record and lost badly to an opponent you've already beaten, that they can walk out there unprepared and win! IF the Buckeyes go out there unprepared and not UP for the Tigers, it could be a long night! If ANYONE thinks that DAINGERFIELD is coming into this game thinking they've already lost, THINK AGAIN! I don't think the Buckeyes will lose, but I DO know if they are not prepared and UP they'll struggle. I don't foresee that happening. Gilmer 57 Daingerfield 14
  23. Rusk hasn't played well defensively. I don't see them being able to stop Gladewater. I think the Bears are alot better this year than they have been the last 4-5 years. Gladewater should win one this relatively easily. Gladewater 55 Rusk 19
  24. Got me........so who is it? Despite Tatum's loss, I think they CAN win it all. They'll play themselves into shape by mid-season and won't run out of gas before halftime again. I think that was the main difference for the lop-sided score -- conditioning.
  25. Being a Gilmer fan, I must say I was a little shocked at how lop-sided this game turned out. The thing I noticed that hurt Tatum more than anything was conditioning. Those players were TIRED well before halftime. They weren't just tired, they had nothing left. I knew it would be hard for them if they got too far behind because of the depth issue, but even those two-way players should be (and will be, later in the season) able to last into the fourth quarter, IMHO. I hope that the Tatum players and fans understand that this was just ONE GAME and one game does not make a season. Keep your heads up and go get that third straight state championship! You CAN do it! GO EAGLES! And it's also WAY too early in the season to even speculate about the Buckeyes chances at winning it all. The Buckeyes MUST remember what happened last year. You STILL have to win on the field, the rest will come. So take it ONE GAME AT A TIME and improve in those areas that need improvement. You can't take anything for granted. Prepare for each opponent as if they were the best team in the state because if you don't you can be beat! It will be hard to get up for some of the weaker opponents, but remember that's what separates the good teams from the great teams is the ability to get up for any team you play! GO BUCKEYES! REMEMBER DASH!
