  1. I think Sabine is much improved this year, especially defensively. I also think Jefferson is down a little this year. But, I still I have to give Jefferson the edge in this one.

    Jefferson 20

    Sabine 19

By the way, I think Jefferson lost to a good Pittsburg team last week. They could be the sleeper in that district (16AAA). I think they will make the playoffs.

  2. Tatum will give Gilmer a better game than the Bucs fans think. Good luck Bucs

    GO GET 'EM EAGLES

I don't think anyone from Gilmer thinks it'll be easy! Oh, Contrare! Anyone who has seen these two teams play knows that it always comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes, i.e. turnovers, penalties, etc., and plays better defensively. This year looks to be another barn-burner of a game! I must say that I WAS impressed by the blackflag defense the other night against Richwood. I just hope they bring that same intensity to the Tatum game! The offense made alot of mistakes, but that's to be expected in the first game with a new QB. I know the QB will get more and more comfortable as the season progresses and those mistakes will be fewer and fewer between. All the Gilmer people have a lot of respect and admiration for the Tatum people and its program and wish y'all the best for the season......after Thursday night, of course!

    GO EAGLES! WIN STATE! 3-PEAT!

    GO BUCKEYES! REMEMBER DASH!

  3. In East Texas, I don't think there is that big a difference in the 3A to 4A talent levels (at least when comparing to the better 3A teams), but I do think depth can make a difference. I will have to go with Hallsville in this one. It should be a close one, though.

    Hallsville 30

    Atlanta 22

I would love to see the Rabbits make a liar out of me!

  4. I must say I was impressed with the blackflag defense! They stymied any and all attempts by the Rams. When my wife and I first got to Buckeye stadium the Richwood team was doing their warmups and as we were walking by them my wife commented that they were HUGE! I concurred! I must say I was a little nervous! We also saw that they were very athletic and had team speed. What the blackflag defense did was amazing! They are much better this year than last, even at this juncture! I saw only 5 or 6 missed tackles the whole game and the containment was very good. The corners also covered very well and the safeties were all over the field. What I saw was very encouraging to say the least. It's too early to gauge how good they really are right now, but they will DEFINITELY get tested this Thursday against Tatum! If they can show that same defensive tenacity week in and week out there's no reason they shouldn't be able to make a deep run, and then some!

    GOOD JOB, BLACKFLAG!!

  5. Snyder got hammered by Monahans last night 41-32. Wasnt as close as the score indicates either. Was 41-26 well into the fourth. Monahans racked up a ton of yards out of that wishbone.

Just goes to show rankings mean nothing. You still have to go out and perform on the field. Anyone who is not prepared and/or having a bad night can be beat by an inferior team. I'm not saying Monahans is inferior because I don't know that much about them, but my point is rankings mean absolutely nothing. It's only what happens on the field that counts.

  6. I'll take Spring Hill in a relatively close one. I think it'll take Lindale a game or two to get any continuity on offense. That should be enough to give Spring Hill the edge, especially at home.

    Spring Hill 35

    Lindale 27

  7. You're sure right Buckeyefan! I read in the paper where they are nearly a mirror image of Gilmer in what they run offensively and defensively. They are probably a little more athletic than Gilmer, too. I'm interested to see if the Buckeye defense is going to be able to stop them. That's my biggest concern. Gilmer only has 2 returning starters back on defense. I still think Gilmer will win but it won't be as easy as some people might think.

  8. My season tickets are for Eagle Stadium, not Rose Stadium, so I won't be there and apparently won't be watching on TV either since it won't be broadcast. Season ticket holders at Tatum got the shaft on this deal.

I'll have to agree with you on this one. Y'all did get a raw deal. The entire premise for moving the game was TV exposure for the players. Now Tatum loses a home game against a tough opponent. It's alot easier to play the good teams at home. The ONLY good thing about it now is there will be alot more seating. I think not being broadcast is an outrage. I think this will definitely be a loss for FSN. It's obvious they don't know how to pick their games to be televised.

  9. This district has got to be the toughest 4A district in the state, from top to bottom! I don't think anyone will get out this district unscathed! That's why it is hard to get a clear picture as to who will make the top three. In my opinion, when the smoke has cleared, the district will look like this:

    Kilgore wins district

    Jacksonville gets second

Marshall gets in as the third team

but: Maybe Whitehouse gets in, or Nacogdoches, or Hallsville.......AAAAHHHHH!!!??

I will stick with Kilgore winning the district, though.

  10. Tons of rumors on this one. One day its that the TV deal is done. The next day its up in the air. IF FSN has b'ball listed then it probably means its filler time with no baseball or college f'ball to run. They would open up air time for something new rather than a rerun. To me, a TV deal would be good not just for Gilmer/Tatum but all of small school sports. It would be a pain for teams to adjust to the commercial timeouts etc. I personally hope the deal gets done to show off more E.Texas sports along with the game. FSN may be resisting since its not a big 5A matchup tho. That would be their huge loss.

Does anyone know how to contact FSN to find out? They probably should know that, even though these are small schools with less than 1100 students combined in their high schools, they have a HUGE following. TMF Rose Stadium will hold, what, 14,000 fans, give or take, and the stands will likely be completely full. That should be reason enough, because from what I've seen on their televised games elsewhere, this game would have more in attendence than those.

  11. 32-14 Kilgore this isnt the same Kilgore as last yr :happy65:

I know it's not the same Kilgore. They will be much better, and Crockett will be better. Kilgore will win their district this year IMO. I'll stick with my original prediction: Kilgore 44 Crockett 30

If I'm right, will you give me 50% of your winnings?
