If I am not mistaken, the Yulefest occurs during the first weekend of December. So that would be a week or so premature. In 2004, I think they just called it off or, at least, changed the day on which it was held, because it conflicted with one of the Buckeyes' playoff games.

RoySe City deserves to have its name spelled right.

Gillmer In the 07 Playoff's....Any predictions?
36gut replied to cj9091's topic in High School Sports
Hutto collapsed this season; already 0-3 in district. Therefore, Liberty Hill is the largest enrollment team that will be making the playoffs out of District 18-3A. Also, I believe Liberty-Eylau is not yet assured of a playoff berth, although everyone assumes they will make the playoffs. -
Pittsburg played a VERY competitive game with Gilmer in 2004. Only lost due to last-minute heroics by Manuel Johnson and Tay Bowser. Final was 22-18. In fact, aside from the road loss to Daingerfield in 2005, I think that game was as close as the Buckeyes have come to getting beat during regular season in the last four seasons. It is a rivalry going way back, even farther than the rivalry with Gladewater, I think.

What's the matter? You don't want to play Gilmer? Why not? Traditionally, this has been a great East Texas rivalry. The last game in 2004 was a real barnburner.
-
The key is participation. The rate of participation in athletics at Gilmer has not always been as high as it is now. I won't argue that Gilmer hasn't always had talent. But in the past a lot of the talent didn't come out for football or didn't stick with it through high school. Coach Traylor got the participation rate up here and now practically EVERYBODY wants to be involved in the program. Gilmer will now continue to be winning year in and year out, as long as something screwy doesn't happen in terms of realignment numbers and it were to go up another classification. Gilmer historically has NEVER done well in 4A in the nearly 15 years it was in it during two different eras.

I can see "pumped up," but why would Gilmer be "angry" at this point?
-
I don't know where you are from, microtrav, but I very much doubt there will be a game between the Bulldogs and the Leopards this season. Right now Gilmer would be favored by about 14 points over LE, by one rating service. If LE can't get past Gilmer in bi-district, there won't be a RC-LE matchup in the third round. I frankly don't know of anyone in East Texas who thinks Gilmer will have a problem with LE this season, but that's why they have to go ahead and play the game. No one will know for sure until they tee it up.

I don't know. I don't have one. I've just heard this is going on. I'll bet someone on this board has one, though. Seriously, Gilmer people would be shocked if it turned out we were playing Pittsburg in bi-district. It's just not on anyone's radar that that is even remotely possible.
-
LE HAS to be Gilmer's opponent. They've been selling T-shirts and stuff hyping the rematch and the revenge factor involved for several months. Spread the word. Pittsburg is not allowed to play Gilmer this year.

We'll know Royse City has arrived when people learn to spell it right. From the looks of this thread, there's still some work to do in that regard. It reminds me of people calling us "Gilmore" from time to time.

That's just it. It's TOO new. I could be wrong, but I think the poster to whom you are responding was being sarcastic.

The press box was "refurbished" about five years ago. It still doesn't look all that modern, but it is far from the worst I've ever seen. It is as old as the stadium itself, which dates back to the early 1960s. Also, there were no visitors' bleachers for most of the 1960s. I think one reason no improvements were made to Buckeye Stadium for all those years was because the Buckeyes were not winning ... for whatever reason. One reason was that we were in what is now 4A from the late 1960s until nearly 1980. In the 1980s we dropped back down and did somewhat better. In the 1990s there was another long dry spell of not making the playoffs from around 1991 until 2001. But it wasn't until our current coach got here that any significant improvements became possible and that is primarily because we are winning. Just MHO. I just slipped and said "we" as if I have anything to do with it. I don't. You can tell whether a program is on the upswing or not by how the townspeople refer to it. In the 1970s, the Buckeyes were referred to as "they" and "them." Nobody wanted to associate themselves with those teams by saying "we" or "us."

Gilmer has been online only without a radio signal for more than a year. The cable companies also carry the webcast on access channels. It amazes me how many people STILL are not online.

The fourth quarter has just started. It's still 10-0 and Atlanta very nearly just put it away, but they committed a turnover inside the red zone. They are saying WW hasn't lost a regular season game in nearly 2 1/2 years.

I don't know, but I know one thing. Hell has frozen over. Pig(skins) are flying. As Elmer Fudd would say, "The Wabbits are wunnin' the spwead!" I almost wish I'd gone to the game to see this anomaly of nature, but instead I'm listening online: www.atlantarabbits.com

That link I found said he was with the New York Dragons of the Arena League: http://www.newyorkdragons.com/team/playerb...sp?playerid=259 Here is a postgame report from March 23: http://www.newyorkdragons.com/gameday/postgame.asp?id=889 On the ground, Ja'Mar Toombs ran for two touchdowns and 25 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown run in the third quarter – his longest of the season.
-
I DO remember Toombs getting knocked out, now that you mention it, but didn't know Will had applied the hit. I knew Will fairly well from church. You're right. He was a class act all the way. Always had a big smile on his face. That's because he knew he was bound for Glory. And he's already there. Too soon for those of us who admired him on earth, but that's why we should all live each day as if it were our last.

Ten years ago, Gilmer was in Kilgore's district and played against a big fellow named Ja`Mar Toombs. http://www.arenafan.com/players/?page=play...amp;player=3422

Gilmer was NOT ranked when it should have been in the first three or four years of the Traylor Era. I agree it deserves to be ranked EVERY year until it experiences at least a couple of down years consecutively. And winning six straight district championships (not to mention the state title) does NOT qualify as even one down year yet. Arguably, the only "down year" Traylor had was his first season in 2000 and even then they went 6-4, vastly exceeding preseason expectations.

If you mean Lamar Harris, I believe he is returning. He didn't 'turn pro' or anything, I don't think.
-
On another board, I have read L-E/Robinson will be played either at Mesquite Memorial or at SMU.

East Texas...Support the Leopards!!!!!!!!!
36gut replied to NETexasFan's topic in High School Sports
I'm going to hazard a guess here. Does it mean "Kick (rear end) Liberty Eylau"? -
Don't forget Liberty-Eylau. They are also from East Texas. But I repeat myself.
