UPDATE: Mount Vernon hires Clayton George

Pretty sure it will be an outside hire. I am hearing that the two current staff members who interviewed were told today they did not get the job. -
UPDATE: Mount Vernon hires Clayton George

MV can still have a good solid team, you are right, Winny will be more talented than everyone in the district except for the school you have apparently forgotten about. Pottsboro will be the most talented team in the district for the foreseeable future, also, in the MV/Winny rivalry, the most talented team does not always win! -
I would not count Idalou out! Anyone who knows anything about girl's basketball knows that Region 1 is loaded every year! If you get out of that region, you are for sure battle tested! Don't know much about Idalou but I bet they play great man to man defense, will be real patient on offense and make Fairfield play defense, and probably shoot the ball really well. I look for that to be a really good game! Guess we will find out in about 2 hours! Good luck to everybody at State!

Football -- "Simple" offenses vs "Complex" offenses
bucksweeprules replied to Monte1076's topic in High School Sports
The wristbands don't tell you what to do in my experience. They simply help the coach convey the play call faster, which makes it harder on the defense. Also, most spread offenses do not use wristbands anymore. Most information is signaled in. -
Football -- "Simple" offenses vs "Complex" offenses
bucksweeprules replied to Monte1076's topic in High School Sports
Interesting thread. A misconception that I think most people have is that "spread" offenses are extremely complex, or that they are soft or finesse. Most spread offenses are very simple to learn and execute. Also, the plays just mentioned in the post above this one, being the lead, power, sweep, trap and veer are staples of most spread offenses. Good spread offenses have effective power running games, just ran out of a spread formation. -

Who won? -
I know there is a doubleheader on Monday at Mt Pleasant High school. First game at 6 is Chapel Hill vs Paul Pewitt. Second game at probably 7:30 is Mt Vernon vs Redwater.

Was wondering when the MT Vernon legend Bobby Fowler was going to make the list! -

Looking for Cross Country meets on the weekends of September 6th and 7th and September 13th and 14th. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, MV girls, and LE girls in Regional Tournament for second straight year(last year they played in finals), and Mv has a second and fourth at the state track meet.

Kaufman was missing a great player, #10, I saw her play against Crandall on Saturday. great talent. I too will take L-E, too much athleticism and size around the basket and two great guards who can go.
-
Congratulations to district 14-3A, Canton has a very good team, however the best player in district 13 did not play against them. Would Kaufman had won, I don't know but it would have been a lot closer. District 16-3A also has all three teams to the second round. Good luck to all teams in the area round.

Did I hear correctly that Matt Young of Gainesville will be the new DC in SS.

Coaches and their old highschool numbers
bucksweeprules replied to lEGEND53's topic in High School Sports
:coolball: :texrangers: stink this legend, I have heard of this too, it seems to be growing all through the east texas coaching circles. And new legends are being born everyday, in fact, we owe it to rookie coaches everywhere(aka Kennedy) to spread our own legends so that the legend of the "#" will be passed on to future generations. I for one am glad that someone posted on your name while you were at a thump, thump tournament, for it has opened up a whole new dialogue of this phenomenon.
