  1. You're reaching for just about anything, huh? Allow me to explain. First, let's set the record straight. You obviously go to every Sabine football game, right? If not, you're watching the games online then? That, or you have a friend at Sabine who gives you a post-game synopsis after each game, and then you're gettin' on Smoaky and talkin' like you were there? Whatever the scenario, it's obvious you're obsessed with Sabine, particularly obsessed with pointing out Sabine's faults or shortcomings, even more so towards Coach Sharp. Three years ago, Coach Sharp took over a football program that was one of the worst football programs in the entire state of Texas, regardless of classification. Sabine football had never won a district title, nor had they ever won a single playoff game. Let me repeat that, Sabine football had not won a SINGLE playoff game in the entire existence of the school. Do you know how hard that is to do? It's almost impossible. Bad teams find their way in to the playoffs every year, and you'd think that at some point one of those Sabine football teams could have mustered a playoff victory. Nope. Never. Now, I'm sure even you can imagine how "unappealing" of a football job Sabine would represent to just about anybody, given Sabine's track record in the sport. I mean, how could one ever turn that thing around and start winning? Especially when you consider the UIL didn't do Sabine any favors at all when realignment moved Sabine into a district with Gladewater, West Rusk, White Oak, Tatum, Mineola, and Winnsboro. How in the world was Sabine supposed to win 2 district games, let alone make playoffs?? Paying attention? Listen close, here we go...While 99% of football coaches out there wouldn't have touched Sabine's HC position with a 30 foot stick, Rex Sharp said sign me up! In just his 3rd year as HC/AD, Coach Sharp leads Sabine to a 10-2 record, a share of the district title, and a playoff victory over none other than Art Briles' Mount Vernon Tigers. Sabine was defeated by Pottsboro in a tough battle (47-35) in the 2nd round of the playoffs and Pottsboro advanced all the way to the state title game. Sabine was named by Dave Campbell's Magazine as one of the fastest rising football programs in the entire state of Texas, regardless of classification, at the beginning of this season. Sabine football has more respect today around East Texas and the entire state of Texas than ever before in the history of the school's existence. Sabine football has gone from a team you could sleep-walk against and still beat by 50, to a team that requires your A-game to beat. Now, let's talk about this year! Sabine is replacing a HUGE senior class off last year's team. They lost the QB (3 year starter), who was probably the best QB in East-Texas, they lost 4 of 5 offensive linemen (most were 3 year starters), they lost every single receiver (most were 3 year starters), they lost a stud RB, they lost both safeties (both 3 year starters), the list goes on! They have battled injuries this season at critical positions. For example, Brent Warren, who was probably the best defensive player on the roster, was injured against Daingerfield and is out for the season. That's not just a loss, that's a massive loss. The best RB on the team, Brannigan Willige, hurt his ankle badly in the very first game of the season against Spring Hill, and is just now returning to his old form. Kile Stripland, an emerging "go-to" receiver early in the season, severely rolled his ankle 3 weeks ago and hasn't been the same since. Just last week against Atlanta, the center was knocked out with a head injury early in the 2nd half and never returned. Then, the QB Jace Burns is slammed to the turf after the whistle and had to leave the game for about 8 plays with an ankle injury. Sabine was driving the ball, down by 7 points, with a chance to tie the game when suddenly you have your back-up center AND QB in the game at the same time. While Jace was on the sideline getting taped up, Sabine turned it over on downs. Atlanta responds by going up 2 scores and putting the game out of reach. I could go on and on, but I've already written too much so I'll stop there! But this is the stuff you don't know if you simply pick up the newspaper on a Saturday morning, or in your case, text your friend and ask what happened. Be careful who you bash on here, especially if you don't know the facts.
  2. In their defense, that 2A JV has several ineligible stud move-ins on it. Which is why that same 2A JV beat #6 1A Laneville.
  3. Tatum will steamroll this district. Only potential close games will come on nights they sleepwalk for a half.
  4. I'm not a guy who solely judges the QB position on stats alone. They never tell the entire story. Sabine threw about 8 passes week 1 vs. Carlisle because they didn't need to pass. Stidham rushed for over 300 yards and the backup had close to 100 himself. McKinney could have thrown for 400 yards and 6 TD's if Sabine wanted to. That's just one example. I like Malone, but there is no comparison between any QB in District 8 and Landon McKinney. Two years ago it was Heath Hood @ White Oak, last year it was OB Jones @ Tatum, and this year it's Landon McKinney @ Sabine. Malone will have the luxury of being a 3-year starter at QB before it's all said and done for him, so I expect him to be great before his time is through. Landon McKinney is a 3 year starter for Sabine and it's showing on the field. Tonight will be a great test against a very athletic team and without Stidham at running back. Talk is cheap. Let's just sit back and see what happens tonight.
  5. I got two words for Bowie fans. Gage Jones. Cards win.
  6. The 2013 team definitely has the more impressive resume at this point in time. Take a look back at that season and these scores: Week 1: Redwater W 39-3 Week 2: @ Bullard W 35-14 Week 3: Spring Hill W 36-3 Week 4: Ore City W 30-0 Week 5: Mineola W 57-7 Week 6: BYE Week 7: @ Tatum L 42-21 Week 8: @ Harmony W 46-14 Week 9: Troup W 56-7 Week 10: @ Sabine W 55-20 Week 11: Jefferson W 38-6 **PLAYOFFS** East Chambers (7-3) vs. White Oak (9-1) White Oak W 44-14 Grandview (9-2) vs. White Oak (10-1) White Oak W 35-14 Newton (12-0) vs. White Oak (11-1) White Oak W 55-36 Franklin (13-0) vs. White Oak (12-1) White Oak W 31-0 Cameron Yoe (15-0) vs. White Oak (13-1) White Oak L 21-24 WO ended the regular season with their lone loss coming against Tatum, who went undefeated in the regular season. In that game, WO jumped out to an early 21-0 lead but the Eagles did a great job adjusting and held WO scoreless the rest of the way. Tatum would go on to lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs to Godley by a score of 40-15. Until the current White Oak team makes more noise in the playoffs, the 2013 team wins this argument. They knocked off some powerhouse teams throughout their playoff journey and did so in convincing fashion. They had Yoe down 21-3 at halftime and had it not been for a 3rd and +20 situation that Yoe was able to convert on, WO would have most likely played Wall the following week for the state title.
  7. Gage Jones 247 yards rushing and 6 TDs. Markese Conkleton had over 100 yards rushing as well. Maud was flat out more physical and dominated from start to finish. Cards now 2-3 on the season and people forget how close they are from 4-1.
  8. QC parents make me laugh. Always pointing their fingers at the coaches and never looking in the mirror. Mix that with delusional expectations and suddenly, you got 20 Nick Saban's sitting in the bleachers. The problem with QC has nothing to do with the coaches. But hey, y'all keep on running out good coach after good coach over there.
  9. I keep hearing how good this freshman PG for Big Sandy is....can someone give me some inside info on this guy? I may try to come watch this one. See this guy in person.
  10. It's going to be weird seeing a new coach for the Roughnecks. Many of my favorite memories come from my basketball days playing for Coach Boyett. Congrats to him on an amazing career. He will be missed!
  11. Lol the thing that always get me is this, why come on a UT thread if you're obviously a die-hard Aggie? I never even waste a second of my life going on the Aggie threads. I don't even go on there to stir the pot for a good laugh. That's how little interest I have in those guys. The fact that these guys hang around is hilarious to me. It's the same old same old. Little brother will always be there poking you in the back with a stick I guess. Oh, cue the "am I not free to go on any thread I want and offer my opinion?" rant from WETSU...the guy has 8,000 something posts and I bet 7,789 are related to UT. All my Longhorn fans can a brotha get an AMEN?
  12. L-O-L...peanuts are flying from the back of the room. A wise man once said, do not be quick to point out the speck in your brother's eye when there's a plank in your own. Aggies actin' like they can throw darts all day but man, it's hilarious to see guys grasping at straws like this. The burn from these past 2 recruiting seasons is strong in these aggies!
  13. Hey Cats69, its been forever since I was on this thread and the first thing I see when I'm back is you still trying to hate on Texas lol I figured you would have given up by now.
  14. Anybody needing a week 6 football game, Maud is open and needs a game. You can email Allen Cross at [email protected]
  15. White Oak. And my advice to the HC... "Run it up Herman. Leave no doubt."
  16. Maud scored 3 TD's on their first offensive possession and all 3 of them got called back. Then, they had a punt return to the 1 yard line called back. They had their starting tailback and best overall athlete ejected and were battling cramps late in the game. They won because the kids stepped up and wanted it more. Simple as that. There were penalties thrown all night. It was straight ridiculous.
  17. So it's Jake Bell then. Congrats to him.
  18. Do we know any other finalists besides Bell?
  19. QC is in absolute shambles right now. Any word on who they have brought in for interviews/going to bring in for a second interview?
  20. Soso is out, he's headed to UCLA. Wasn't up for the "competition" Texas had in line at the RB position. If you're the #1 RB in the nation and competition scares ya, good riddance. Mack will shock me if he goes anywhere but ATM. Have no clue about Warren. I feel solid with him...but then 5 minutes later I don't. We'll see. I won't cry a river over him though if he goes somewhere besides UT. I'd like to see Locke, Baker & Newsome be good surprises tomorrow. I'd be satisfied with that.
  21. Well, looks as though I have a major plate of crow to eat and I will open wide and let the black bird fly right in. I underestimated how wishy washy recruits can be. Lesson learned my friends. As for my final thoughts on this 2015 class.... Although I am very disappointed in not getting some of those big name players, I am not as disappointed as I think I normally would be in this case. The reason being Charlie Strong. I have to give the man and his staff props, they have absolutely busted their butts to get the recruits they have and this 15' class is legit no matter how you slice it. The man has always been able to coach defense and he only reinforced that this year taking the worst defense in school history to best in the Big 12. Now he has gone out and brought in a defensive class chalk full of guys that fit his system and style and bring that "nastiness" the Texas defense has been missing for quite some time. I am very excited to see what this thing looks like in the years to come. On the offensive side, I like the OL getting brought in to step up the competition and now there's a lot more depth there as well. Looking forward to what improvements are made from year 1 to year 2 with Wickline. I really like the skill position kids being brought in too. I believe we have quietly assembled a pretty slick WR core for the next 2-3 years with the 14' and 15' classes. Kai Locksley is a guy that is vastly underrated. I am looking forward to his development moving forward. All in all, I'm happy with the class every time I look at it and it makes me feel even better that these kids really wanted to be at Texas and are hungry to turn things around. Can't wait to put 2015 behind me and move on to 2016.
  22. So far I'm 3-4 on my NSD bold predictions for the "elite 8" prospects. I've missed on Murray and more than likely I'll miss on Lodge now because they were tied together. I have a feeling I should have predicted Chris Warren as a part of this class instead of Nick Brossette but I won't consider "missing" on that pick a bad thing at all. I'm just as happy with either. I stand by my picks on Locksley, Soso & Mack being Longhorns. Time will tell.
