  1. Some of these youngsters and their parents live on some pretty treacherous roads. My guess would be upper administration thought safety issues over a game that means very little.
  2. I coached in that one and remember having to wash uniforms for a week to get the mud stains out. The sad part is we had practiced all week on the squib kick to keep it out of Hackney's hands, and wouldn't you know we kick it straight to him in the air. The field was so bad Alto warmed up in the parking lot pregame, and Garrison went out in practice gear so we would be dry come kickoff. Fun Times!
  3. Believe me I know all about the change, since I graduated from there in 1980 and went back there as a HS Principal from 1996-1999. All that being said good luck to the new Coach, it is a job of challenge.
  4. 1978-79 team made the regional finals losing to LaPoynor. The district was Huntington, Broaddus, West Sabine, Tenaha, Timpson and Garrison. I know a little more about that team than the others, since they let me suit up from time to time.
  5. Actually it was the 1959, 1960, 1962 and 1974 teams.
  6. I thought he did a great job even making them respectable. I transferred my son out of Garrison for his Senior season to play for Coach Reyes and staff and he had a great experience there. The Dragons beat Lufkin made the playoffs and Coach Reyes went above and beyond helping my son get recruited. He landed at Tarleton State where they won a conference championship this season and it would not have happened without Coach Reyes. Nacogdoches will be hard pressed to find a coach that cares about the student/athletes as much as he does and run a program with discipline and integrity as he did. Good luck to NISD and Coach Reyes as their journey moves forward.
  7. I understand, sometimes it is just not the right fit or maybe he was just not ready for that big of a stage. Often it takes some bumpy roads for a coach to settle in as they age and figure out a style that fits them. I personally think he will stay at Tarleton and help them make the move to the FCS level, at least there he would be doing with a foundation he already controls and is comfortable with.
  8. If it is the A&M Commerce Coach he should be available next Saturday afternoon. They catch Tarleton State again in the 2nd round of the DII playoffs, if they sneak up and beat Tarleton then SFA Alum and Head Coach Todd Whitten would be available. I am pulling for the A&M Commerce coach to get the job then. GO TEXANS!
  9. In the case of DII athletes not being good enough to play DI, that was probably the case with my son, but look at their rosters and see how many have transferred out of DI schools way bigger than SFA. A&M Commerce loaded the boat a couple of seasons back with UT kids and others. I know there are underlying issues with grades and off-field issues, but DII is loaded with DI talent. I am happy my son reached his goal at a place he is proud to be a part of: a gold college ring signifying he will graduate and a conference championship ring signifying he was part of something bigger than himself. In the end like the commercial says most of the athletes will go pro in something other than the sport they played! Have a great day and thanks for sharing.
  10. Some of the guys on their list are DII coaches, so who knows. I know that Tarleton could not of won the Southland this year due to the toughness of that league, but I also do not think SFA could have won the Lone Star. Many of these DII schools have benefitted greatly by being affiliated with large DI systems, and SFA board of regents and administration need to take a serious look at doing the same. Thanks for your input always two sides to every situation.
  11. They will be Division 1 soon enough, but does not matter SFA can still not compare to the path Tarleton is taking for the future.
  12. I think you are right about the attitude of residents towards students, and the attitude of a lot of the students are the same towards the residents. My major concern for the football end is finding someone that will be honest and forthright with the area high school coaches to establish a rapport and utilize local talent. I currently scout for Tarleton in East Texas at the smaller school classification to compose a list of players for them to evaluate and recruit if they see fit. I want the SFA attitude to change from oh they are small school kids and do not fit the "DI Prototype" and we can get them to walk-on with a "Preferred Invitation" because we are SFA and they will come here anyway. Thanks again for listening, but I still have some old wounds, or as many would say on here "I am just butthurt"! Have a great day.
  13. Topher, I understand what you are saying and agree with some of it. As I stated earlier I am an alumni and have lived in Nacogdoches for 30 years but the arrogance and poor decision making should have never let the school drop this far behind. I hope they can turn it around, but it will be an uphill battle as long as they are happy with the status quo. I know I am partial in my thinking about Tarleton, because my son plays there, but it is amazing what they have done in the four years he has been there. Stephenville is all about their public schools and their college and the way they work together is outstanding. Thanks for your insight on SFA, but I am not happy with what it has become.
  14. One person being committed will not turn this situation around. It still befuddles me why SFA wants to stay "Independent", joining one of the larger systems would benefit the school tremendously in all areas of operations. I know that Tarleton State receives a kickback between $600,000 to $800,000 every year from Texas A&M. This time next year Tarleton will surpass SFA in enrollment and have newer nicer facilities. It is hard for me to support my alma mater when it has digressed to this point 30 years after being a student/athlete there. I bought my Lifetime Alumni Membership upon graduation, but beyond that I am not willing to stand up and be proud of what they are today.
  15. Not my money! The football and baseball programs are in shambles, and it is their own arrogance that caused it.
