  1. Offered without comment: http://gregg-doyel.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/5881996/28218817
  2. I stand by what I said. Drew is a slimeball, is deep in bed with AAU scam-artist coaches, and he'll get his due at some point. Heron, you don't find it odd that Baylor was in the dumps and yet still almost landed John Wall? That they are signing some of the top AAU players in the country every year? What does Drew have to offer at Baylor that is better than what is being offered at Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Texas and others? You don't find it odd that Epke Udo transferred to Baylor of all places? That one of the best freshmen in the Pac-10 (Gary Franklin) just up-and-left his team mid-season to transfer to Baylor? Baylor knew of the issue regarding Perry Jones in January and did nothing about it. They waited until the last moment and claimed they were being hosed--a convenient, built-in excuse for a terrible season considering their talent. This is the response from the NCAA in regards to Baylor's complaints (emphasis mine):
  3. I don't think Duke cheats and I don't think UNC cheats. They don't have to...their programs speak for themselves. But when your program is in the dumps and all of the sudden you're landing top-five talent every year something is up. NBCSports article on it: http://beyondthearc.nbcsports.com/2011/03/09/perry-jones-suspended-improper-benefits-dont-be-surprised/
  4. Perry Jones has been suspended by the NCAA for receiving improper benefits, according to several news outlets. Baylor is working on an appeal. I would not be surprised if this were not the only violation ending up in Drew's lap. No one who has followed the Big 12 over the last several years is surprised, except for possibly a few Baylor fans. Drew's ability to land five star recruits on a consistent basis and to accept college transfers from players who suddenly decide Waco is a desirable place is quite odd considering Baylor's history as a basketball program. http://www.newsok.com/report-baylors-perry-jones-iii-suspended-for-tonights-game-vs.-ou/article/3547289?custom_click=pod_headline_ou-sports
  5. You can't build your team around the play of one-and-dones and expect to play well consistently. They have a lot of talent but that talent comes with a bit of immaturity at times. Look at the recent national champions. They are teams with a lot of quality upperclassmen leading the way.
  6. Baylor's problem is they have a coach who lets his kids do whatever they want...it's part of his recruiting pitch. They are extremely undisciplined on both ends of the floor. They are very good in must-win situations because they tend to play those with more focus, like last night. They are just as likely to go on the road against OSU and lose by 20. Baylor did not beat anyone decent in non-conference (that's putting it lightly) and their best two wins came over a team that will probably be a 7 seed. They have to beat Texas and win a couple in the Big 12 tourney to get in.
  7. It's really hard to win in Lincoln. I'm not shocked by this so far...for some reason the Huskers just play out of their minds against good teams at home and are awful on the road. They remind me a lot of the 2005 and 2006 teams fielded by Gillespie at A&M.
  8. In the NFL the rules are such that you have to wear certain numbers when playing a certain position. Receivers may wear 10-19 and 80-89 and backs must wear 20-49, etc. The rules are more relaxed in college. Kids pick their numbers based on what they want to wear and coaches try to accommodate them as part of the recruiting process. Martellus Bennett committed to A&M after confirming he could wear the number 3. Just the way it goes sometimes. As long as the two are not on the field at the same time it is legal. Spurrier used it to his advantage one year when he rotated in a wildcat quarterback who had the same number as his actual quarterback. Sometimes it was hard to tell who was playing...I think that was a pretty cheap maneuver.
  9. http://v4.texags.com/Stories/1423 Not a fan of the "greatest dunk ever" label but no one on the current team can do that. Green is a freak athlete and Jamaal Branch is another guy coming in who is a true point guard that plays both ends of the floor well. Two of the best recruits A&M has had coming at once in a long time.
  10. It's the combination of a lot of factors. Alabama has a large population base that is not college educated and they have no pro sports teams...so they follow 'Bama football even though they have no association with the school. The "t-shirt" fans for 'Bama probably outnumber the Auburn t-shirt fans 3:1 in the state. These people have no idea what it's like to be a college student or to be a part of a campus community, so the respect for each others' traditions means absolutely nothing to them. Every Alabama student and alum I've seen comments from are absolutely disgusted by this.
  11. Only if you feel the need to inflate your numbers to save face by counting season ticket holders, like Texas did against ISU and FAU in football this year. The NFL is notorious for that as well.
  12. Comfort was a great coach and should have been a top candidate to take the job. Meeks won at Henderson by dropping a classification, hiring awesome assistants, and letting them do most of everything...from what I hear at this point in his career he actually plays golf more than he coaches football. I'm not dogging him because a lot of head coaches do that. Assistants are where the real success comes from because they spend way more time with the players on the practice field.
  13. Hilarious. From the A&M/Tech bball game today. Announced attendance: 9,091. Actual attendance (the arena holds around 15,000):
  14. Flee the sinking ship. Smart move.
  15. They will be playing Killeen Ellison at Navarro on Tuesday. Time TBA, either 6 or 8.
